I don't give a damn what others say---the Stones are the greatest and nobody will ever top them in talent and sound. One day I went to a Stones-Van Halen Concert and Eddie was boring compared to Keith....Sounds counterintuitive but it's true! Stones songs were better.
hahahah...My kids know the Stones pinnacle was 68 when they came up with JJ Flash and SF Man.....dropped the cassette mike into the guitar body and recorded it overdriven....
Gimme Shelter guitar solo sounds best when Keith Plays it, no offense but Taylor went too overboard playing it and the feeling of the studio version was lost I think. Don't get me wrong, Taylor also played great solos like the Can't You Hear Knocking jam.
@gymnastix Mick Taylor did some great guitar work with the Stones. But he joined in 1969 and most excerpts are before his time (and Brian Jones was just a shadow of himself in 1968/1969). Yes, Mick Talor played on" Honky Tonk Women "and the live tracks of "Get Your Ya'Yas Out" (US tour of 1969), but I believe that nearly all guitar parts here are the main creation of Keith.
@gymnastix No on these particular tracks, Keith is the lead guitar player and in some cases the only guitar player. With the exception of the excerpt from the live cut of Midnight Rambler, which is in fact Mick Taylor on lead. However Keith is doing the crunch power chords behind the licks.

Not a lot turns me on more than young Keith Richards. I was born in the wrong generation, I swear.

The gunslinger looks of this man ,are unparalleled in rock music. Every guitar player worth his salt, tries to emulate him,and most fail miserably.

But are all these guitar parts those of Keith Richards?
Aren't some of Mick Taylor, who was, technically, at least, the lead guitarist of The Rolling Stones, just as Brian Jones was before Taylor?
