wait what? i dont think you guys were swinging latin in the beginning bc i was singing it along subconciously and i finally realized wait...... i agree i believe that this should either be sung in english or latin , ( latin is more like it bc its such a beautiful sound when you sing it) but anyways nice job it seems muffled but it might be the acoustics.... i just did this song in my choir at college very beautiful
language and mood i always liked the minor chords and the darker sound to music instead of all happy not that happy is not good its just something people dont seem to do alot of ... mysterious
thats why i never understood the idea behind brass being part of it bc they are very strong sounding and loud like in my choir when we practiced it the pianist when he played it on the piano sound like way more better to me it had that more bassy sound i dont know hard to explain but yeah
well i was going to say that the brass have those muter things but then they woud probably almost be too quiet lol my brother had that or his trumpet and actually saturday night they used them at our concert i almost think for the end of the song but i cant remember we sang several latin songs
our brass quartet is playing to the stand... found out it's not as overwhelming... and therefore they don't have to use the mutes. Unfortunately when we started the two massive pieces for our Christmas program (This and John Rutter's Gloria) we had more members.... so them playing to the stand helped out a lot without them actually having to use the mutes
I agree- what's with the back and forth with the languages. Strange. I've heard better arrangements than this having performed it many times. This is good but i would only rate this at 3 1/2 stars.
I love this, though it sadly reminded me of Daniel's passing last December. His music seems to be relegated to the piece stumbled upon rather than regularly performed, and that's a shame. Excellent composer, music and performance, thanks!
i'm sorry, and i could be wrong... but aren't these the wrong lyrics? Quem di vistis pastores?

You are correct these are the words - Quem..... I just finished singing it at an Evensong

1, it should be perfromed in either ALL latin or ALL english, dont switch back and fourth between the two, it sounds horrible.
2, the horns are FAR to loud
3, The chior needs to watch the conductor and enter at the correct time..couuuunt.

I understand perfectly, but the key thing is to find a brass band that is quiet, not over combering.

well you see the problem with mutes is that they change the type of sound it makes, ie its tone quality.

Exactly.

Um. They're not "muter things"
They are mutes.

ummm i know that, obviously you have a problem with how i said it though ok ill say it the "proper way" ......... "mutes" or singular "mute"

its in latin

The "intro" isn't...most of the rest is though. I prefer the latin all the way through.

you're correct, its not all latin, and the horns are WAY too loud.

This piece normally is not performed accapella.

my Acappella choir did this my freshman year.
it really doesnt have the same effect in english.
Its kinda of boring actualy.
and whats up with them switching back to latin in the natum vi di mus natumm part?
haha not bad though
johnjohnhewitthewitt 3 years ago 2
It doesn't quite have the same effect in English. In fact it is not effective in English. And the choir's vowels are very wide and American in sound.
