One of my favorite directors of all time. I especially loved Hana-bi, Sonatine and Zatoichi. Getting Any? was funny as hell. Also Joe Hisaishi's music really complements the scenery and mood in Kitano's movies.
today when it comes to great movies, people think of Avatar, Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter or even worse to some film about boxing or on race cars.
But I think of Takeshi Kitano, his poetry, his way of describing reality, so violent and full of irony.
A reality that is not "described", but it really is, as Beat Takeshi got the screen door.
What copy of VIOLENT COP did you pull these screens from? I have the American version which looks washed-out and ugly -- which adds to the film a bit -- but I'm eager to see it in such a bright, clean way like you have in this video.
Cool, thanks. I own actual copies of every Kitano film and it's always saddened me, the shit quality on Violent Cop's picture. Though I think all of his films need re-releases through Criterion or something.
Thanks again for this video, I watch it at least once a month. Gives me chills.
