I apologise for talking "shit" Rex. What should I do next time. Should I try putting the reel into gear before I start the fight or should I leave it in freespool which causes me to lose these 100kg snapper like I always do. For christ sake dude...what drugs are you on that you can quite happily tell me that because I use a 25 I should be able to land every fish I hook? It's fishing...you win some you lose some.

I disagree. A 25 isn't overkill when an Ambo grabs the hooks. I mean don't get me wrong, your gear will work perfectly...I use the same stuff with soft plastics on the shallower reefs but when you're fishing in 80m + with ambos floating around the snapper school...you really dicing with death with a lighter rod and reel combo.

Indeed. Only in the deeper water will I use a 25. I had an ambo destroy my abu one day in 70m of water. Since then I don't take any chances. I love the lighter combo for snapper...a lotta fun but the ambos just destroy everything if you hook up which is a common occurance for qld snapper anglers. On the shallower reefs....soft plastics and 15lb mono/braid all the way!

Yeah no doubt it looks a massive fish ant but you're fishing with pretty light gear for a fish of 14kg. I fish snapper tournaments here in QLD with TLD 25s, 42lb mono and 60lb braid and I've been smoked by weapons much less than 14kg. 14kg is a MASSIVE fish dude and you would have been anihalated on the gear you're using if this is in fact 14kg. Nonetheless an awesome fish. I'd be happy with that :)
