  • Sorry, but talk normally. The parts where you did where alright.

  • You can use the Gnash mozilla plugin by typing "sudo apt-get install browser-plugin-gnash".

  • I got rid of Ubuntu because I don't like the new interface, and I installed Trisqel. So far, I like it alot! I hope they don't mess it up like ubuntu did.

  • @SketcherMan2 i hope this is a joke you're making. there is 1 line that you could enter into the terminal to "fix" the ubuntu interface. most linux users are smarter than that.

  • I wouldn't mind using this OS. I'm a student so I'm thinking maybe I could get a student membership from the FSF and use the card they send. That way I can show it to my friends if I'm ever chilling at their house.

My only issue is wifi and video drivers :( I'd want this for my netbook, but free video drivers drain battery like a mother and the wifi drivers are non-free, so it almost defeats the point.

  • @ForeverWiked very true

  • @ForeverWiked Work on the drivers then. Don't just consume the software :) Contribute back man! (Assuming you don't).

  • I dont like the way you describe Free Operative Systems, is is just a simple description, I think there are a lot here that do the same.

  • @DMBoyCloud expalin a bit more mate??

  • @sneekylinux Sorry about my English but I am not a native speaker, what I want to mean is that your description of the distro is pretty basic, you omit important things like the comunity support, hardware compatibility, documentation and the very good performance; I am not trying to offend you my friend, it is just my opinion.

I hope you to consider my advice, this is to let users know about documentation, compatibility, suport and funcionality.

  • @DMBoyCloud is OK mate, and you have a good point which i could go into, but i try to keep the videos short just to give you a look, and maybe you might try them, i actually like trisquel, its just the flash support and stuff that pains me, but i know that in the end all will be well with that.

  • @sneekylinux I know flash support isn't good enough, it is the same with 3d acceleration on ati and nvidia graphic cards, when it is only avilable on intel with free driver on trisquel.

What I wrote above is my personal experience, I tried lots of distros but almost all have the same problem (few documentation, translation and no good support due the comunity knowlage) for example Elive, it has no documentation and no user's support at all. That's why I prefer Debian, it has all I need. =-)

  • Sneeky, a few times you mention gnash, the video player you're seeing is from "FlashVideoReplacer" the FF add-on. - Thanks for the open mind toward free software. :-)

  • @TeDiouS1001 i stand corrected mate,but i am sure it was gnash,but will have a look

  • This guys like the Open source David Bellamy ...magic

  • If you want free as in speech use BSD :)

  • @tylerwylie you could do mate

  • @sneekylinux And even that's not truly free, Public Domain or the WTFPL(Do what the F you want) license is what should be adopted.

  • can we install another flash player ?

  • @foolsgold41 well in theory you could but it would not be in the keeping of their philosophy.

  • @sneekylinux , oh ok, i get it, i was think just incase it did not work at all, that one could if they had too, but yes, i see what they are saying, :) , freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • @foolsgold41 yup you got it,i think i said free more than 40 times in the video....lolololololol

  • @foolsgold41 yes! is very easy!

  • 4:44 lol best moment in this video!

  • sneeky, great vid but I have to say this. As you said, free means freedom in this case. Freedom also means the freedom for someone to install/us proprietary codecs and formats if they so wished. I understand the distro is designed to be free throughout, but real freedom would surely include the right to choose between proprietary and open, right?

  • @j800r You can still install non-free software. It just doesn't hold your hand through it all, so to speak.

  • Quote of the year: "It's not the Gestapo - it's the FSF."

  • Lol at the trends on Youtube on your video .. Kate Middleton shake ya ass! Love it!

  • I really like this distro, their site is up and running now or last time I checked btw.

I really like that they respect the FSF philosophy, it's a big thing really and it has impressed me :)

I'm just curious if it will continue with gnome 2.32 or change...

  • The "Rubbish Bin" gotta love it :D

  • lol "be a mug.." I got reminded of Billy from Football Factory hahaha

  • @dynetrax Love that movie! Have you seen Green Street Hooligans? It's similar, although produced in the States so a bit dramatized, but still a good watch

  • @ecconz Yeah I've seen that one too it was a bit softened up compared to Football Factory but still great.

  • cool reveiw thanks

  • I generally had a issue with things regarding flash, there were some other issues I think but i forget what those were.

  • trying to access there website. With minimal success. Is it down?

  • @SOF006 seems to be man

  • free as in 'restricted'. :)

okay, i know that ol' richard and the gnu guys are doing a good job keeping open source open source, but sometimes it bugs me how they religiously redefine 'freedom'. closed standards and money-grubbing companies are a pain, but at the end of the day you just want to use your computer, right?
