  • beautiful.. yet that white lady is all off beat~

  • Gotta say, the last combo was sweet.

  • This style would be especially effective against an opponent using a knife and/or stick.

  • I've had to use Capoeira for defense once since I started training...Thank you so much for shedding light on these trying times for our art form.Where do you train. if you don't mind me asking?Much respect and Axé...

  • This is by far brilliant I myself have thought of using angola in self defense techniques dont care what they say, they are some things Ive never thought of, again I say brilliant job!!

  • @ Maocapoeira, Im from the street in east oakland bra, are you from the street? If your from the hood you should know you get zero stripes, zero respect from talking crap from miles away. Now go away, and stop putting your foot in your mouth, or youll spoil dinner.

    Comical

  • @neterkeht1 Holla at em,brah. This ya boi Head Coach Ras from the ATACX GYM .I train capoeira (with Mestre Roque from Salvador Bahia) .I fight and coach Muay Thai, wrestling,Kenpo and boxing, tang soo do taekwondo, hapkido, gungfu, kenpo karate, and more.Capoeira when trained progressively and combatively is without a doubt is the KING OF MOVEMENT,and movement is the fountain of all technique. It's not by accident that the best fighter in the world,Anderson Silva, does capoeira and bedazzles peeps

  • @ Maocaoeira. Bra seriously, I have posted video, with my name and face, you hide behind a code name on the internet talking crap from miles away. Truly laughable. This cyber thug, keyboard gangster thing you do is pathetic. You said this art wasnt useful in the street & you were wrong. I dont sell any "black martial art b.s" as you call it. However the root of the art is in Africa, so it is a black / african martial art, again you are wrong.

  • @ Maocapoeira, you are a funny guy. This clip was filmed at a university in st louis mo, not in the projects. We were invited to teach there. Where are you invited to teach? You make personal insults by claiming im not a "real caopeirista", calling me an idoit, & saying my jogo is garbage. There is no jogo in this clip. I have been training this art since 1988, where were you in 1988? I notice you dont have anything posted on your site. Weak! put up or shut up bra, your getting boring

  • @ ATACXGYM You have hit the nail on the head, every martial art has merrit and worth, the question is how does the practitioner aplly the science. Just as a hammer and nail are useful for a carpenter, these same tools are usless for the baker. I must agree with any martial artist / fighter who knows the true value of humility. Take what is useful for you, appy it as needed. I can only hope more martil artist take your approach of keeping an open mind, as good technique is universal. Peace

  • @neterkeht1 man your whole jogo is garbage you aint even a real capoeirista just fooling these idiots in the projects selling them soem it's a black martial art bullshit the knees would work in the streets but not the way you throw it same with your cabecada youer weak as your capo keep showin idiots in the projects your bullshit techniques with sound effects

  • @neterkeht1 Wasn't it created in Brazil by Africans who were slaves there, and not by Africans still in Africa? I've been reading up on the history and rituals of Capoeira. From what I've read/seen about it so far, its really interesting. I found a place that teaches it in my city.

I've decided once I get some extra money, I'll be going there to talk about enrolling in their class. :)

I really like that you made videos showing practical uses of Capoeira. I hope to see more videos from you.

  • The first thing that you learn (if you fight and spar like I do) is that capoeira is the undisputed king of movement, and that there is no movement which is alien to capoeira, but capoeira has a plethora of movements that can be found nowhere else. And daily that plethora of movements grow as fighting capoeiristas expand our vocabulary of movement.I hold a 5th dan in kenpo karate and several other disciplines,as well as years of training MT,judo, wrestling, etc.Capoeira works and I'll put up video

  • @ Maocapoeira. Are you suggesting that capoeira cant be used in the street? Perhaps the Capoeira you practice has no value in the street, to each his own. I personally know plenty of great fighters that train Capoeira that will disagree with your idea about the value of the art as it pertains to street defense. Elbow, head, and knees are commonly used weapons in Capoeira, and most martial artist will tell you that these weapons are very effective in street defense.

  • @neterkeht1 I wholeheartedly concur with your assessment.Capoeira is very useful in street encounters not only because capoeira was used highly successfully to repel multiple whip club sword and gun weilding assailants at the same time who outnumbered the capoeiristas, had dogs horses and more, for centuries. The Portuguese documented the successful resistance of capoeiristas for CENTURIES.Race hating slavers wouldn't credit those they hate most with repelling them unless it was inescapably true.

  • @ Maocapoeira. What exactly is meant by "capoeira wannabe"? Are you curious about my personal history in this art or just arrogant and full of hate? I understand that not many people have tried to explain how capoeira techniques can be applied in the street, but perhaps you have a lack of understanding about the art of capoeira and its history or various techniques contained in the art. Educate yourself in these areas then you may have an informed opinion.

  • @neterkeht1 I have used and continue to use capoeira while sparring, and have become awed by its tremendous power, deviousness, speed, deceptiveness street-savvy guile and explosivity. Hardcore bareknuckle practitioners make regular use of capoeira moves in their tourneys (see kyukushinkai tourneys here on youtube). The au martelo and various rolling, flipping and cartwheel attacks are all the province of capeoira, along with the deceptive kicks (like "The Brazilian Kick").

  • @neterkeht1 yo this guys sound effects are allmost as hillarious as his technique I´d love to see buddy try that in the streets fake ass capoeira wannabee should be embarrased to upload this garbage calling it capoeira or self defense ans those idiots n the class are just as dumb deaf and blind WOOM WO PA WA BAM!

  • @maocapoeira hahaha you're right i was just laughing at this fool

  • do you guys practice Silat??

  • @potential22

Great question but no we do not nor have we ever trained silat. I was once in a seminar were silat was taught, but have no fromal training in that art. i do have a great deal of respect for silat, as good technique is good technique regardless of style.

  • o q?????????????

  • good work, Axe! . from spain :)

  • Peace God. Great great great video!!..your droppin real science right there. People need to distinguish ô jogo de capoeira and a luta de capoeira..or capoeira in self-defense. There's more than one use of capoeira, and you need to learn to use these in contextual fashion. Nuff Respect.

  • @KayNyne13 Beautifully said.I've been saying the same thing for years.I'm sure you can find my comments to that same effect littered throughout many a capoeira video on youtube.

  • lol, that guy came with special voice effects,BOOM,WAM,PAH!!! lol, awesome video and its true capoeira is a self defense, you just gota know how to use it.

  • Brother Khet! You've become an awesome teacher. Can't wait to see you guys again!

  • Yeah of course man worldworks you fight crip gang members, and i am roy jones jr talking

  • i dont doubt that capoeria is effective, but it certainly requires special athletic abilities in balance and endurance, thats for sure

  • Elegba thank you for your interest. We are Adigun Sipho Capoeira Angola. The founder of our group is Mestre Terry Baruti. We train in San Francisco Ca, since 1988.

  • that's great you are showing capoeira techniques that a lady I talked to who practices MMA describes similar techniques with the footwork you just demonstrated.

She has also by accident figured out another form of capoeira that incorporates rolling and somersaulting.

It even saved me from a crip gang member trying to sucker punch.

I did the Capoeira mule kick and then executed a forward/backward rolling combo and then tried to shoot for a takedown but my attacker got away.

  • Do you know Chicago?

  • Peace Soulblackman. We do know Chicago. We think Chicago is a very important figure on the current scene, as he is one of the most accomplished angoleiros that Grand Mestre Grande has ever produced in the states. We see Chicago as a noted and worthy ally in our daily struggle to preserve, and promote the art. Chicago reminds me of my own teacher Metsre Baruti in the sense that he has a passion for teaching the art to black youth.

  • Powerful. I'm not a capeorista myself, but I met Chi. before. By any chance is Mestre Baruti the brother from Atlanta, who kicking the knowledge about the sexual/mentacidal warfare against black people?

  • Im afraid Mestre Baruti is not the person you describe in atlanta, however the condition of our people and the war machine set to destroy us is a common topic of discussion for us, and serves as one of the main motivations we have for training as hard as we do. This is also why we have a burning passion to teach the black youth especially, and black people in general. Knowledge of self and others is the most effective weapon in this battle. Peace.

  • I am impressed, 1st, that you want to give our youth real power, using African martial arts as a vehicle. I'm also impressed that u seek to apply Capoeria for what it was meant to be - self defense, not this sick, dance crap that has been emphasized, for the benefit of others, still a throwback from the days when it was outlawed in Brazil. I know a few Capoeristas and am proud to know what they represent & your tube really sheds light to its reality for our people. Peace & keep up the good work.

  • @Soulblackman Nah that's Mwalimu Baruti...Powerful teacher

  • Listen I know you guys already know this, but I find the Martelo to the face, meia lua de frente to the side, pisao to the stomach and a rasteira slide kick as the best moves for self defense. I probably wouldn't do the more flashy moves unless your opponent is close to losing. But then again I never been in a street fight, but thats just my view.

  • good for when you have gone ass up on some spilled beer and are trying to get away from a head kick by crawling under a pool table

  • i think you brothas got some science

nice vid. much respect- who are you brothas? who is your mestre?

  • I wish there were more videos like this on capoeira self defence. It is very nice to see the street applications of the moves. xD

  • We thank you all for your open minded aproach or veiw of this art form. Metsre Baruti has always taught us " If you cant defend yourself in the street with it, then it is not a martial art." I am afraid I do not know who produced the cd that you hear, it belonged to host of the event.

  • No worries, thanks for info. It's good to see the practical application of the form.

  • I have that song, I think it is on one of Mestre Suassuna's CDs. Not sure which one, it is just in my song list now in my ipod.

  • Beautiful teaching. I come from a school that shares the same methods. My teacher would love you to death! I believe that song is Mestre Suassuna and its from the 70s-Marinheiro so

  • I like the practical application of the video, it's nice to see. What I also really like is the flute that's accompanying the bataria. Whose CD is that? Or is there someone with a flute playing in the room?

  • Nice video.

  • This is the essential science of Capoeira.
