  • BTCC 1997 had it's last commentary from Murray Walker.

  • Lawdy - Murray's commentary is hard to take, and I don't subscribe to the current fad for saying this was BTCC's 'golden age'.

  • thanks for these uploads!

  • I remember watching this on saturday afternoons as a youngster. I'd just bought a Tamiya RC Car and got well into this. Happier times !

  • I wish I was born 10 years earlier. If that was the case, I had the luck to see the awesome years in sport. F1, BTCC, everything! I was born in 1994 unfortunately

  • @MidaETC i am from 1994 too, i honestly think we both look back in 20 year and see the races of today again and say, those were the good old days, now racing is rubbish

  • @TheAlexxxsh yeah exactly!

  • I have the PS1 game of the 97 year, it is really good

  • I miss it too. Thanks so much for uploading it.

  • I miss 1997!!! BTCC, F1, OASIS, spliff..... That where the glory days!!

  • murray walker pure genuis

  • well, spadge, do you have the full races too? :D

  • Renault Lagunas never looked so good

  • @MegaMrDamo

    Amen.

  • 3:50 ¿?

  • Haha reminds me of all the driver/car combination as in the original Toca Touring Car!!

  • Haha listen to that Volvo

  • The best racing in the world was the old BTCC, now it's pretty much gone to shit. Even Nascar beats the new BTCC, so that's why I've switched to that. Atleast there's overtaking in that

  • Gotta love the old BTCC, not watched the BTCC in years as i never thought it was as good as in the 90's

  • It's classic, but having watched BTCC this year there as been some awesome races. Love some of the other race leagues on ITV4 as well.

  • toca touring cars 1 for the win!!!!

  • The Volvo's owned.

  • Thx for the uploads, thumbs up.

  • can u just get a car and do whatever you need to do within the rules and regulations of the btcc and just enter?

  • @1234nan4 yea but it aint cheep,

  • "Bad package" are you real? Ben Edwards offers just as much enthusiasm as Murray Walker and Tim Harvey is an ex BTCC champion but his knowledge is fantastic - the ammount of times he shouts a 'problem' straight away and gets it right prooves that. I think the Ch'ship and coverage is better than it was in the so called 'good old days'. We might not have the Manufacturers but don't forget, Triple 8 (VXR) WSR (RAC) Team Arena, RML were all manufacturer teams in the 90's and are very professional.

  • Its also a shame as its such a bad package nowadays with the TV show makers and commentators, more excitement is needed, and more people who love the sport!

  • btcc has been as good in 07 08 09 i actully think better to be honest than it ever was in the 97 98 99 its best years were 91-95 any true btcc fan thats followed it will agree with that statment we have some top drivers in it now plato gio turks neal jackson etc and to be honest the racing now is beta than 97-99

  • Yeah I was talking about the TV package. ITV4, with what I believe is a sub standard show and not enough knowlegable people working on it. I'm gunna try and follow it this year.

Yes there is talent out there, and good racing, I wasn't talking about that. However there aren't enough teams and manufacturers as there is less money and more costs in the sport than before.

  • well am not sure id agree with that i personally think the 1tv4 package is a good 1 i like that you get total full coverage and also i like that tim harvey is the commentator as for the fact we dont have no manufactures i dont think its a problem i think its beta in a way because its a more of an even playing field i mean dont get me wrong when we had 10 manufacs in the 90s it was amazing but we dont have that now but we still have door 2door and the 3 race formats the best in the history i feel

  • BTCC - Its a shame that its a shadow of its former sell, a victim to its own success, just like the World Rally Championship.

@zomgthesoftness I remember the game too!! Loved it, I particularly remember Tiff, "Cheat code enabled" and those yellow Renaults.

  • golden age

  • @GOLTURBO555

    yes :(

  • @GOLTURBO555 Yep 80's for the rally, then 90's for touring cars, and F1 a bit from both eras!

  • Plato must be the Stig

think about it, it makes so much sense

  • those primeras are sexy

  • thats why i love the touring car discipline

  • I remember the Playstation game so well! The damage modelling meant I could do some pretty wild crashes alongside Tiff Needel's commentary (why they did that I will never know.)

Anyway, it's cool to see the cars I know virtually race in reality.

  • 0:40 check out the second volvo false starting, rolling before the green !

  • FW owns 4WD

  • On dry tarmac only! :)

  • @TheHondaTuner

where you have here 4wd ?

  • this is definately btcc at its best, such a variety of manufacturers and teams

  • BTCC at its very best with real cars, real drivers and fully manufacturer backed teams..and even an F1 team in the case of the Renault, sadly i dont think we'll ever see it as good as this again especially now as theres no money about with the car industry on its knees.

  • Nice channel this, matey

  • these were the days! (i was only 11!) this was the golden year for btcc, proper contact, unpredictable racing with brilliant cars.

  • The good old days, love the vauxhalls

  • after 1999 the night race was the end of good BTCC there was no visibility then it became a hatchback sport

  • i miss the proper BTCC, it will never be as good as this

  • I'd forgotton Williams prepared the Renault touring cars. Can you imagine a formula one team going touring car racing today??

  • The BTCC is a lot more restricted now than it was during the super-touring era. Massive budgets and F1 experience no longer count the way they might have done when the series ran to super touring regulations.

  • Super Touring rules should be brought back.

The sport is on its a*se at the moment, most of the spectaters have gone.

Super touring rules with the tweak of unlimited BHP, unlimited budget, no turbos and limited to 3,000cc

You'd see some nice homologation models being released by the manufactures.

  • Is there any place online to find BTCC videos from the nineties? preferably DVD...?

  • Try Duke Video . They use to have a lot of BTCC Races .

  • Brilliant race and a great season, lots of different manufacturers and commentary from the legendary Murray Walker....it dont get any better than this!!

  • Brilliant video. Those Lagunas looked fantastic. The green and gold Peugeots were nice as well. Thanks for uploading.

  • The Renaults were always my favourites, i wish they'd come back!

  • those lagunas are damn sexy

  • murray a real legend

  • 97-00 was definitely the best of BTCC so far. Too bad BTCC will never be the same again like this :(

  • Boo yeah, mid-nineties super Touring, with commentary in a language I understand.

  • What a playlist!!!

    OMG!!!

    Thanks, youtuber, thanks!!!

  • those were the good old days!!! murray and charlie what a combination!!

  • charlie's now the host of the Australian Top Gear. Some people hate him, but i reckon he's a legend.

  • DYK: TOCA banned four wheel drive after that season due to its advantage. Rules require to either have front or rear wheel drive.

  • OMG you uploaded a hole season!

    Thank you!!
