I wish I was born 10 years earlier. If that was the case, I had the luck to see the awesome years in sport. F1, BTCC, everything! I was born in 1994 unfortunately
@MidaETC i am from 1994 too, i honestly think we both look back in 20 year and see the races of today again and say, those were the good old days, now racing is rubbish
The best racing in the world was the old BTCC, now it's pretty much gone to shit. Even Nascar beats the new BTCC, so that's why I've switched to that. Atleast there's overtaking in that
"Bad package" are you real? Ben Edwards offers just as much enthusiasm as Murray Walker and Tim Harvey is an ex BTCC champion but his knowledge is fantastic - the ammount of times he shouts a 'problem' straight away and gets it right prooves that. I think the Ch'ship and coverage is better than it was in the so called 'good old days'. We might not have the Manufacturers but don't forget, Triple 8 (VXR) WSR (RAC) Team Arena, RML were all manufacturer teams in the 90's and are very professional.
Its also a shame as its such a bad package nowadays with the TV show makers and commentators, more excitement is needed, and more people who love the sport!
btcc has been as good in 07 08 09 i actully think better to be honest than it ever was in the 97 98 99 its best years were 91-95 any true btcc fan thats followed it will agree with that statment we have some top drivers in it now plato gio turks neal jackson etc and to be honest the racing now is beta than 97-99
Yeah I was talking about the TV package. ITV4, with what I believe is a sub standard show and not enough knowlegable people working on it. I'm gunna try and follow it this year.
Yes there is talent out there, and good racing, I wasn't talking about that. However there aren't enough teams and manufacturers as there is less money and more costs in the sport than before.
well am not sure id agree with that i personally think the 1tv4 package is a good 1 i like that you get total full coverage and also i like that tim harvey is the commentator as for the fact we dont have no manufactures i dont think its a problem i think its beta in a way because its a more of an even playing field i mean dont get me wrong when we had 10 manufacs in the 90s it was amazing but we dont have that now but we still have door 2door and the 3 race formats the best in the history i feel
I remember the Playstation game so well! The damage modelling meant I could do some pretty wild crashes alongside Tiff Needel's commentary (why they did that I will never know.)
Anyway, it's cool to see the cars I know virtually race in reality.
BTCC at its very best with real cars, real drivers and fully manufacturer backed teams..and even an F1 team in the case of the Renault, sadly i dont think we'll ever see it as good as this again especially now as theres no money about with the car industry on its knees.
The BTCC is a lot more restricted now than it was during the super-touring era. Massive budgets and F1 experience no longer count the way they might have done when the series ran to super touring regulations.
Brilliant race and a great season, lots of different manufacturers and commentary from the legendary Murray Walker....it dont get any better than this!!
BTCC 1997 had it's last commentary from Murray Walker.
mclarenguy22 4 months ago
Lawdy - Murray's commentary is hard to take, and I don't subscribe to the current fad for saying this was BTCC's 'golden age'.

BTCC - Its a shame that its a shadow of its former sell, a victim to its own success, just like the World Rally Championship.
@zomgthesoftness I remember the game too!! Loved it, I particularly remember Tiff, "Cheat code enabled" and those yellow Renaults.

Super Touring rules should be brought back.
The sport is on its a*se at the moment, most of the spectaters have gone.
Super touring rules with the tweak of unlimited BHP, unlimited budget, no turbos and limited to 3,000cc
You'd see some nice homologation models being released by the manufactures.
