Maybe someone can help me... I used to know this Greek dance that required a guy and girl and the guy and girl couldn't let go of each others hands and you'd kept getting spun around each other and you'd dance in the circle at the same time. You'd let go of hands eventually to swap partners at one point and at another, all the girls would go into the middle and dance, then all the boys would go into the middle and dance... (It was fun!) But i don't remember what it was called! It's killing me!
I hate to burst everyone's bubble but lets be clear about what this is. This group is well trained and very precise but they are not presenting traditional dances from Thessalia. This is a theatrical presentation which is highly choreographed. I hope people don't think this is how the dances are supposed to look.
orolings, for the first time, since we posted this video online, someone has commented about exactly what what we are presenting, in a respectful manner. For those who follow the posts, you would have seen the abusive messages erased moment after having been posted.
Indeed, this is a very well trained and precise goup, presenting highly choreographed routines.
Utilising the abundance of knowlegde that exists on greek dance and traditions, manasis creates presentations that communicate energy, excitement, with elements of traditional folklore. Obviously, it does not need to be stated that the "style" or "choreogrpahy" that manasis dances with, is not "as it was in the olden days", but just as language, dance is a form of communication, and must evolve. we do not forget our traditions, we just enbrace and enhance them to make it a show piece.
My worry is that many people do NOT know the difference and the fact that you present without a parenthesis explaining what it is and also because the show is done in traditional costumes, people will be misled. Your modern bracket is excellent. The others are very misleading and should not be done in traditional costume. It gives the impression that the presentation is showing traditional dances.
i appreciate your concerns. if viewers took 2 mins to read our aims and targets, outlined both on our website and all other publically written material, they would see exactly that paranthesis that u are talking about. make no mistake, we are presenting traditional dances, with traditional costumes, in a contemporary context.
in the short amount of time we are given before any given performance to outline or descibe our presentation, we would rather use it to promote the hellenic culture and dance in general, rather than justify and explain the intentions behind our performance. again, than you for your concern and support.

This is only a small part of the song. Here are the lyrics in greek:
More bikan, more, bikan ta gidia sto mantri
Ta provata sti strougka Chrisoula m' ki aderfoula m'
Rovola ta, rovola ta
ta gidia kai ta provata.
Po-po-po-po-po-po-po poia na 'n' afti
me to garyfallo st' afti

The translation:
The goats are in the pen
The sheep are in the pinfold
My Chrisoula, little sister
Harry them up, harry them up
The goats and the sheep
Wow, who's that girl
wearing the carnation on her ear
