Uighurs was independent. . in 1884 Manchu Empire occupied the Uighuria. following the fall of the Manchus 1912, 4 states become independent from Manchus,these are Uighurs, Tibetans, Mongols,and Chinese. in 1949 china occupied again backed by Sovit Union.

I want to make it clear I don't have anything against chinese people and culture, i only hate watching a folk dance played with a copy of an european orchestra -which is not of chinese tradition either...

Chinese folk instruments would have been better in my opinion... although the right thing for an uyghur dance would be uyghur instruments too, of course.
