i am Deaf. my parents gave me a CI when i was little kid too. i reacted like the same way. i still don't like my CI and rarely use it. It's always been uncomfortable.
Hearing parents, if your child feels like there is nothing wrong with them, you shouldn't force them to have surgery they don't want, and it just convinces them that there is something wrong with them and they need to be 'fixed' to be just like everyone else!!
good for you, Emma! Don't ever forget that you are Deaf! good luck!!
I read from the grandma that the audiologist had a fixed volume on this processor. She did this because the girl kept turning it down. I think this is one of those processor that come with an remote. So I wonder if the mother won't let the father have the remote. It's too bad they can't lower the volume. The father have the rights to handle this situation on his own that he see fit. You can't sue everyone, including the grandma, for not making her wear it.
@FirefliesButterflies Hi FirefliesButterflies, thank you for your insight. This is where the community has to gather together to support Emma. Emma has her rights and at the moment; they are being denied.
I like it, Although, the saying "I can't get them at all" she was referring to her wig tape that help hold her headpiece. The grandma wanted her to pick them up but she was making excuses not to wear it by saying "I can't get them at all"
This is Emma's Grandma. Her mom got the left CI remapped and she seemed fine with it this weekend. But she still tells us she would like to hearing with her mom and deaf with her deaf dad when she wants to be.
@allisonpeace I had the same feeling & contacted Emma's grandmother who shared your same feelings. She is documenting everything on video to prove to the judge that Emma is not happy with the CI and wants Emma to be who she is; Deaf.
@CharlestheRogue I truly hope they do check into this situation as it is a grave matter; so many violations have been done unto a child. She protests so many times and speaks out too many times. It cannot go ignored any longer.
Excellent way of framing this dilemma along with UN statements to remind the others what is really the deal. It makes so much sense that the child needs to be protected and have rights too.

OMG, I had so filled tears in my eyes and tightened my throat.
When a child knows and wants it, that's fine. When a child knows and does not want it, that's fine.
BUT a child knows and forces to receive CI against her/his right, that is not fine.

@avbria Well said Barb! Children have rights too and we need to protect those rights because they are our future generations.
