I think when comparing preformances between Adam and James, first off... they are two very amazing singers. With that being said, I think Adam is a more schooled and seasoned vocalist in comparison, but when he sang this song way back when on the big stage... he surely could hit those incredible notes, but I didn't FEEL the prefomance and the story being told like when Sam Cooke originally preformed it. However, with James' rendition... I could feel that great aura of raw passion from his soul!
@DavidPadillaMusic Adam announced that his second album would be more 'leather' and less 'glitter'. Make of that what you will, but I'm definitely looking forward to it! Sides, if you haven't actually bought his first album, the songs are actually very varied in style: some are slow and soulful, others are very 80s-like, pop- definitely. :D
But I'll definitely see what Durbin's up too post-Idol. I'm not really watching this season though. School's kicking my butt. xD
I really prefer that version than the Adam Lambert's one. Ok, James have to work a little bit on his vocals (and some notes were a little bit off), but the tone and how James brought it, were better than the overrated Adam (I'm not saying that it was bad, but if james had improved his voice, and sang it with on the stage like adam did, his performance would be much better, I think)

Adam is Rock/Pop....and James is Rock/Metal.....
Adam's voice is more polished....and James has an Axl Rose type of raspy sound to it which is totally made for harder rock.

I think he is an incredible vocalist, but this song and his rocker scream just don't go hand in hand at ALL, in my humble opinion. @14r3l33tc00kies WHENEVER u hear a cover of a great song u HAVE to take into account the original version. He had NO vocal finesse during this preformance. Yes, he hit incredible high notes, but to what end? There was no beauty in it. He was hitting high notes just to SHOW that he could & I don't like that. I never said that I didn't like the "style" of this version. U added that into my comment for some silly reason. I. Do. Not. Like. His Vocals. In. This. Version. Is that clear enough for you?

@loly009 I doubt if he even realized Adam has sung it... maybe the producers suggested him. I like both versions...pretty different to me. Adam Lambert is a bigger performer. James is a rock singer, and he doesn't exaggerated the style.

@dannoj98 Adam is copying who exactly? The original artist? No. Adam's version isn't like the original or any other version. James tried (note- operative word: tried) to copy Adam's version exactly and failed laughably.
This song can also be performed subtly, as Rebecca Ferguson demonstrated in her X Factor audition, but trying to perform it with power and doing nothing more than shouting it is an insult to a very moving lyric,
I'm embarrassed for Steven being paid to big up this rubbish.

@dannoj98 I do like the style he is trying to sing in, that is the point. That is why I find his pathetic attempts so hilarious and the judges trying to make this season 8 reject appear to be something other than an average Joe even more hilarious.
Still, he's worth it for comedy value.

I liked Lambert version better, but it was done totally different. I read someone saying Durbin copied Lambert, and that it was exactly done the same. WHAT version were they listening to? Durbin version is NOTHING like Lambert version. Durbin version is very bluesy, and really not that bad. Voting? Glamberts - NO, but Glambert/Lambert haters - YES. What ya think?

this was actually an incredible vocal performance..so much emotion...sometimes too much, but still amazing...obviously doesnt compare to adam lambert..but then again who does?! he wont come anywhere near the success that lambert had because he doesnt have the control...i think he's better suited to be a lead singer in a heavy metal/rock band

Durbin, if you can't go there, don't go there. I mean, it would've been an awesome if he hit it down to suit his ability as of now.
It will probably cost him. And from this performance I can hear the tonal difference between him and Adam Lambert. Adam Lambert has a more powerful, huskier vocal than Durbin. Durbin vocal is a bit thinner. No wonder his wails sounds erratic. Durbin, just cool it down. Adam didnt scream his way through Idol (Mad World ppl?). Well even if he did, it was in control.

I don't think people are listening because he does sing, now the judges expect his screams, but he showed in this song he can sing! He is amazing and all the judges know so! Plus, we only hear what they put on tv, he has sang different songs, he wouldn't be in the top 24 if the judges didn't think he was good!

This guy sucks arse!!! High notes are all he can do!!! The rest is average, and blows people away with the one big note... And that's about it, but because of the sob story they need the stereo type in there i.e. "Diabled" so they are not biased in anyway!!!

i think what james did in this song is a rocker style version, the pitch of his voice is two high even his low voice register. the high note at the end .... just wow!! Performance wise it's casey rules.. but vocals this james durbin is the real deal...
