When I was in it, I wasn't thinking about being brave and honourable. I just wanted to blow shit up and shoot powerful weapons. Every Canadian soldier that died in the field are in their early 20's or late teens...the very few in their 30's are a very very rare in the military.
Unfortunately, we do not have a psych portion like police forces to keep individuals such as yourself out. As for the ages you mentioned, don't bring it up unless you have actual statistics to back it. I have met a balance of both young people and old people in the military, of all branches. Some stay in for the short run, some make a career out of it. And at 18 you should know WHY you are doing what you want to do. And sorry to say, if it's just to blow shit up, I'd seek counsel.
Actually dude, I'm onto my 3rd phase with my RCMP recruitment. I've passed my interviews and physical. The last interview is more/less procedural. I'll be in depot within 6 months.
Let me tell you, the RCMP get plenty of applicants from the forces and most will wash out before they get to the 2nd stage. They don't have the capacity to think 3-demensionally. People who become police officers do so in a sincere desire to help people...others have the gung-ho attitude but lack the real aptitude to want to create relationships and better society. I know those kinds. If they want to carry a gun and shoot shit at 30 then they best remain in the army.
However true that may be, I know plenty of people in the forces who have successfully been hired by police services across Canada as well as the CBSA. You said it yourself, you joined to blow shit up and use major firepower. And I will tell you for a fact, that is where the majority of applicants are DQ'd. And being dishonest about who you really are is an auto-dq. But hey, you have made it this far. Good luck, maybe you will make the Summer Troop for depot!
Some people stay in the Canadian Forces because they like it. the Youngest CF member to die in the Stan was 20, the oldest was 46, most Soldiers killed in the stan have been in their mid to lat 20s/earily 30s.
That is complete and utter BS. One of the reasons the CF is so good at its' job is because of the VERY high retention rate it enjoys. I was medically released out after 21 years due to an injury suffered in Bosnia. I was a C.E.T. long before I was released and NEVER considered getting out. Those who join to be a mercenary will quickly find it is not to their liking.
High retention rate? I think you should read more newspapers or look at the auditor generals report on attrition. The CAF isn't doing so good, and it's attrition is increasing since Harper took office - but I'm betting it'll bounce back a bit more since Obama is in. Harper was too much of a Bush wannabe and that scared the propsective recruits - nobody wants to die for POLITICAL reasons. Bosnia & Afghanistan are valid wars IMO.
The numbers I am using are an attrition rate of 8.5% which is pretty good (2005 numbers). Everything I have read from the AG seems to indicate a problem with recruitment. If you do not have the ability to recruit/capacity to handle more recruits than you lose through typically expected attrition, you never gain ground.
If you bothered taking the time and read everything posted you wouldnt be asking such a lame question. I SERVED and I QUIT because it was LAME and i wasnt gonna SERVE and retire with a merely OK pension. I left for two reasons...BOREDOM and REDNECK wages. Ah... actually the Queens Own Rifles are the only reserve regiment with an airborne tasking. And there are jump capable companies in each of the 3rd battalions of RCR, PPCLI, and R22R. Although the Airborne Regiment is disbanded the airborne capability of the Canadian army is still here

The Beep Test is a running test, usualy they do it at high school gym class ect. Its were you run between 2 lines usualy spaced 20 meters appart. As the levels change (1, 2, 3 ect) so does the time between them get shorter.

Secondly, you can only join when you are 16 or 17 I believe (But you need approval from your parents). My recommendation to you is to finished high-school first, or atleast go to the Canadian Royal Military College. Then Apply to join the Canadian Forces.

Most people don't join the CF for action, they do it for the reasons that are shown in this video thus the effectiveness of it. It advertised all the CF does, attracting all the people who join for different reasons. Not just for warmongering.

There was just a documentary on this and the "girls schools" are few and far between and mostly in country areas where they are not even needed. 1. The Canadian Army is possibly the most shadowed army in the world. Canadian victories in history are often ignored and when paid attention to, are often viewed as victories from the UK or US. Our contributions were very minor, as you couldn't fight war then without tanks and airplanes, and Canada didn't have the industry to produce enough of those to be relevant.
I have no love for Bush, but Afghanistan was fine because the state harboured terrorists responsible for attacking one of our close allies.

Every Canadian soldier that died in the field are in their early 20's or late teens...the very few in their 30's are a very very rare in the military.

Unfortunately, we do not have a psych portion like police forces to keep individuals such as yourself out. As for the ages you mentioned, don't bring it up unless you have actual statistics to back it. I have met a balance of both young people and old people in the military, of all branches. Some stay in for the short run, some make a career out of it. And at 18 you should know WHY you are doing what you want to do. And sorry to say, if it's just to blow shit up, I'd seek counsel.

Let me tell you, the RCMP get plenty of applicants from the forces and most will wash out before they get to the 2nd stage. They don't have the capacity to think 3-demensionally. People who become police officers do so in a sincere desire to help people...others have the gung-ho attitude but lack the real aptitude to want to create relationships and better society. I know those kinds. If they want to carry a gun and shoot shit at 30 then they best remain in the army.

Some people stay in the Canadian Forces because they like it. the Youngest CF member to die in the Stan was 20, the oldest was 46, most Soldiers killed in the stan have been in their mid to lat 20s/earily 30s.

I was medically released out after 21 years due to an injury suffered in Bosnia. I was a C.E.T. long before I was released and NEVER considered getting out. High retention rate? I think you should read more newspapers or look at the auditor generals report on attrition. The CAF isn't doing so good, and it's attrition is increasing since Harper took office - but I'm betting it'll bounce back a bit more since Obama is in. Harper was too much of a Bush wannabe and that scared the propsective recruits - nobody wants to die for POLITICAL reasons. Bosnia & Afghanistan are valid wars IMO.

The numbers I am using are an attrition rate of 8.5% which is pretty good (2005 numbers). Everything I have read from the AG seems to indicate a problem with recruitment. If you do not have the ability to recruit/capacity to handle more recruits than you lose through typically expected attrition, you never gain ground.

Ah... actually the Queens Own Rifles are the only reserve regiment with an airborne tasking. And there are jump capable companies in each of the 3rd battalions of RCR, PPCLI, and R22R. Although the Airborne Regiment is disbanded the airborne capability of the Canadian army is still here

its not 20 minutes... its a minute per level... 6.5 is 6.5 minutes into the test. And ruban chill the fuck out, the guy is allowed to ask a question... he's a civvie not military so dont sit there and berate him cuz he doesn't know what the beep test is... how do u think people enlist in the forces.... by asking fucking questions. The recruiting centre doesn't tell people to "look it up on google or i'll fuck you up in basic". Christ.

The Beep Test is a running test, usualy they do it at high school gym class ect. Its were you run between 2 lines usualy spaced 20 meters appart. As the levels change (1, 2, 3 ect) so does the time between them get shorter.

renegen1... Grade 6? Are you one of those 18 year olds who couldn't pass the 6th grade? First of all, you require atleast grade 10 or grade 9. Secondly, you can only join when you are 16 or 17 I believe (But you need approval from your parents). My recommendation to you is to finished high-school first, or atleast go to the Canadian Royal Military College. Then Apply to join the Canadian Forces.

CameronTingley, you are completly wrong about that. Go research the statistics on this commercial. This commercial has been by far the most effective CF Commercial we have ever produced and IMO is a very good commercial.
Most people don't join the CF for action, they do it for the reasons that are shown in this video thus the effectiveness of it. It advertised all the CF does, attracting all the people who join for different reasons. Not just for warmongering.

This is such a crappy commercial. The version before it was so much better as it pumped you up and gave you adrenaline. This just shows the sad, dark, horrifying side of the army, which is realistic, but doesn't get people to join the army.

The Afghans have been repressed by their government for decades and people the world has known that for years but is has only taken a serious interest in the past 6 years sinse 9/11. Brutal foreign interference? If you think our troops are there to brutalize the people you must be on crack or something, we are there to help the people and if you think otherwise then maybe you should do some research because you clearly have no clue about what you are talking about

Oh ok so its all about sucking up to the U.S, it isn't Canada's fight, only the quality of life for Afghans is improved, people are no longer being publicly executed in soccer stadiums women can vote and go out in public by themselves and young girls can go to school, yeah that really sucks we should pull out and let everything go back the way it was, I'm sure the Afghans like being repressed, murdered and uneducated by the Taliban that "cares" about them so much

Hate to tell you this, but all the girls schools built in 2002 got burned down and girls can't go to school in Afghanistan anymore, and women who go out in public alone get gasoline thrown in their faces and lit on fire. Invading a country doesn't change its culture, alas...

I am going to have to call you on this one. Source(s) need to back up clames. I find it hard to belive that EVERY single girls school was burned down in 2002, and none have been rebuilt and restarted. Also the gas to the face sounds more like an isolated incendent to me than a country wide practice. But if you can produce some evedence for your clames then I might reconsider.
