I LOVE Hohner products. I play accordion and harmonica so I know good reeds when I hear 'em.
The "Golden Melody" harmonicas are my #1 favorite. The "Marine Band" is a close second, and the "Special 20" is another awesome harp. I haven't played any other brands, but those are the top three Hohner harps in my opinion. Though I will say on a budget the "Hot Metal" harp is great for the price.
That was a cool lesson too! You have a great feel to your playing.
I know this is a bit of a ask, but is there any chance you could tab some of this out? I'm sort of stuck on playing fast jams and I need something a bit slower like this that I can learn then adapt from?
It's just a different way to look at it. You said if the band is playing in a certain key count up four and that is the key harp to play, I said pick up a harp and count up five from its key and that is the cross-harp key you will be playing in. So band is playing in E, count four E, F, G, A that is the harp you need to play on in 2nd position. Now you are playing by yourself and pick up an A harp, count up 5, A, B, C, D, E and that is the key you will be playing in when playing cross harp.
No I think I'm confusing you so just stick with what you were told before because it is right. Remember, if you pick up an F and count up five: F, G, A, B, C you will be playing in the key of the band. If you play B or Bflat when the band is in C, you will sound bad. But here is a weird one for you if the band is playing in F use your Bflat to play along in cross-harp.
To tell you the truth, I've never heard of that. If its, the comb that is plastic that's no big deal because most harps are. What makes a good harp I think is how the comb and reed plates fit together and the quality of the reeds themselves.
There is a difference in the Harps. The C harp is about middle range of the harps; D,E and F are higher and B,A and G are lower unless you buy a especially marked harp such as a low F or High G for example. They do play slightly different in that your mouth has to make slight adjustments to get bends. For example, it is much easier to bend the high notes on a lower tuned harp and a little easier to bend the low notes on a higher tuned harp.
could you show me how to play mountain of love by johnny Rivers solo harmonica part. thanks

Hi Mueleski, first time viewer here.
I know this is a bit of a ask, but is there any chance you could tab some of this out? I'm sort of stuck on playing fast jams and I need something a bit slower like this that I can learn then adapt from?
Thanks in advance!

I always thought you counted up 4 places, eg, band in A...harp in D for 2nd position..or band in E...harp in A..and so on, you count up 5, how come?

Don't touch the piedmonts. They're not playable. Start out on a Hohner Special 20.
