  • KISSES ON THE BOTTOM!

  • louswire I couldn't have said it better!

  • lets take a look at numbers today...

  • Love this song

  • I like this song very much. it makes me smile when he sings the line"kisses on the bottom" It's such a classy classic song.

  • New album Paul McCartney (releasedate February 6th 2012) will be named: Kisses on the bottom. It is a line from this song I'm gonna sit right down and send myself a letter. This song will be the first one on the album

  • Love the old music. Fats Waller is one of my favorites.

  • Ohhhh he started to sing at 1.15 ! I thought it was an instrumental, so I was singing ! Then he interrupted me ! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!! Just kidding. He is singing better than me for sure.

Love this song ! Thank you for sharing. Big Thumbs Up !!!

  • He is the best. J. Dyrdahl

  • Maravilhoso. Viva Fats

  • Isso é que é música!

  • Awesome!!what a WONDERFULL recording...so PRISTENE...this cut lacks the "hiss n pops" inherent in most 78s, a PLEASURE to listen to..THANKS!

  • I now that this kind of comment are stupid, but im 21 and oh god I wish that my generation had this music.. but no!! what we got? just stupid music!

  • @cucollins12 My 19 year old son feels the same way... so, all is not lost for your generation : )

  • Fats Waller at his best....

  • C, F, G, F, G, C, F, G, G, F, C = You can't go wrong. Fuck A and B. Stay in those chords through a song and you got a hit.

  • @tvfilm you should be banned from music counseling/teaching. That my friend, is the reason why we have shitty music today, because of guys like you that don't give a shit about music, harmony and repeat the same thing over and over again

  • @DajaWaja Relax idiot. I was joking but it's true a lot of the early songs used 3 chords for rhythm. This song is using the same chords, there's only so many chords. So relax. LOL. Why do you get all crazy online? Seriously? It makes you look like an idiot. Ban people for talking? Get the F out of here with your anger issues.

  • @tvfilm why u mad bro?

  • @DajaWaja He madddd

  • I had been up from 7:30 and was just on my way home at 9:00. This came on the radio and it instantly made my mood do a 180. I am in love with this. Thanks, Fats Waller, for making my long, hard day end fantastically. <3

  • every song by fats always tickles my frown when im down

  • this was music, not the shit of this days

  • 3 people didn't write themselves a letter

  • My GOODNESS this music is entertaining! You REALLY had to have some talent in those days in order to stand out from all the other talent that worked their chops everyday in the clubs. This music is so special in SO many ways it shows how Jazz was one of THE greatest inventions to come out of America.

  • Que musico maravilhoso, e que melodia linda esta. hoje em dia ouve-se tanta musica ruim. Saudade de um tempo em que eu ainda não existia.

  • KNPR Now lets do the numbers.

  • Love me some YouTube. Where else are you gonna find this stuff?!

  • The implications of this song are really quite depressing. Is it unrequited love? An inability to cope with the passing of a lover?

A beautiful piece, all the same, but still...

  • @TheHeroHartmut In my country there is an awful "genre" (it's called Chalga) for which our blues fans have a saying...

Chalga is when a bad man is having a good time.

Blues is when a good man is having a bad time.

Don't know if this info helps, but just thought about sharing it :D

  • @snoookie456 I love the music of Fats Waller but i think it's possible to idealise this stuff. He -did- play for Al Capone ya know!

And this music came out of the brothels!

  • Hooked!

  • I just caught myself happily dancing while doing my Chemistry homework. That's the magic of Fats for you.

  • clean, sweet music...just doesn't get any better.

  • This song just has a certain... rightness to it.

It's just plain, good, good music.

  • @louswire you are on the money

  • @louswire Who would flag this as "spam" Its true. and it is indeed a great post , I bgave you a big thumbs up.

  • Comment removed

  • Fats is always light as a feather, clear, precise, swingin', sweet. A pure genius. The world would be less if he never were.

  • Sang this to my wife on our wedding day. Band got into it. She cried, said "I love you". Great song.

  • @ChynaRider PERFECTION!!! Go on Lucky!!!

  • Fats Waller is a real legend,a truest sense of the word.he was actually

more cool than we thought,no wonder mafia "hired him".He is a good

candidate to man who should be cloned. He made music, because

he enjoyed it,never for money.have you ever seen a photo or video of Mr.

Waller where is jolly or not smile'ing,i doubt about it.He's legancy is in

    popular culture forever.

  • @Pentagonshark666 His piano is so clear and beautiful.Back when recording was reel to reel with primitive

machines it's still ten times better than today..Talent,talent, what more can I say..

  • Very nice. This was one of my Dad's favorites.

  • I really had no idea that a piano could sound so beautiful.

  • First time for me and Fats, 55 years old and ignorant up till now,WOW,WOW,WOW. TALENT!!!! CONVERTED!!!!

  • @doggymess

Its mostly what I listen to these days.. since being converted that is :D

When your singing out the words, or knowing which tune is being played from the first notes played, is when you realise your feets to big!

I´m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter, is one of my favorites

  • What a man a total genius, with such self-deprocating humour, where do these modern self important and usually pretty shitty pop acts get off on being soooo serious about themselves.Fats wrote musicals, played church &cinema organs, was a comedy genius and could out drink and out gamble any indi rock band, plus Idon,t think you'd want to fight such a big guy with such fast(anagram) hands......J.B.

  • Zed, you are officially one of my newest gods!

Thanks to you and Fats for changing the world in the right direction.

  • THis is GOOD STUFF!!!

  • He frequently performed for Al Capone in the 1920's

  • "Tickling the Ivories"

  • who is the one idiot who dislikes this masterpiece?

  • @Pentagonshark666 Perhaps a Misclick?

  • @Pentagonshark666

    Amy WHINEhouse.

  • Fats Waller was a genius, no doubt about it.

  • Yeah, I'm just waiting for Peter...

    This is Heaven, right...?

  • his piano rendition fits exactly the lyrics and mood of the song

  • I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter because Freedom for me is truth, truth does not always have unanimous acceptance by news for profit.Take care ADonovan43.

  • Never heard of Fat Waller before... omg... thank you for sharing this... this is so lovely!

  • "Fats Waller and His Rhythm" = Fats Waller Piano and Vocals

Herman Autrey Trumpet , Gene Sedric Clarinet, Al Casey Guitar , Harry Dial Drums , NYC 5/8/1935

  • ADORO!!!! There is nothing better!

  • Possibly his signature tune.

  • @LePrince1890

Aint Misbehavin" is his signature tune

  • @steveknows62

I agree it is his best known tune - but I'm Going to Sit Right Down And Write Myself a Letter and The Joint is Jumping come close to it.

  • Hi, can anyone tell me where I can find the sheet music for this song? Can find several versions of the song, but never with this piano... And it's rather difficult to play the whole song only by hearing...

You can send comments to my email: franqdevos@msn.com

    Thnx !!!!

  • Ahhh Fats, there should be a halo around that derby of yours...

  • I started to dance

  • my favorite Fats Waller song. The whole human condition wrapped up into one song.

  • Fats Waller was the man who made from piano a singing bird.we will never see

anyone like him.never.he was the greatest ever.this is talent.today a few people

know what talent is,a very few got talent in music business. But Thomas is

    always with us.

  • So relaxed...

  • Fats, like a fine wine, you get better with age. I do have one complaint: You died way too soon and young. Thanks. Jim

  • my nana did sit down and write herself a letter, after her father died she had to live with an awful auntie so she wrote a letter address it to herself saying she had a job and place to live so her auntie let her go

  • I'mma have to do that sometime, sitting down and writing myself a letter. And, when I do, hope there is music like this in that background:)

  • 0lá José! Eu aprecio bastante Thomas (Fats) Waller. Eu penso mesmo que ele contribuiu de certa maneira para o aparecimento do R&B e Rock'N'Roll da década de 50.

  • So soft, so sweet, so naive... It belongs to an era without fear to be happy, an era far from vulgarity... I have been loving this tune since I was a child. Antonio Augusto from Brazil

  • I got a 45 of this record today for just 20 cents in excellent condition! At the dawn of the 45 era in the early '50s, RCA would reissue some of their oldies of the day, and I happened to get a copy!

  • How could you not love listening to this song. It's wonderful.

  • Fats Waller, and Art Tatum are Priceless

  • What a good time you wold sit back an just enjoy the music.

I do thank you for the post

From Earl in Huntington Beach Ca.

  • i wish fats waller lived long enough for me to meet him because hes my idle

  • He would probably prefer to be your idol.

  • I hope Fats Domino is remembered in the same way,he is a legend.

  • Fats Waller does a great job also on "Big Chief De Sota". Have you ever heard that number by Fats? If not, you have missed something

  • Enjoy This Wonderful Oldie By ' Fats'

    Here are the Lyrics,

I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter, And Make Believe It Came From You!!!!!!

  • does anybody know from which album this song is?

  • Bellisimo, muchas gracias.

  • Absolutely beautiful song... Love it :)

  • it is a very nice melody, I love it

  • Fabulous, just fabulous, what a great artiste. What a great song.

  • I have always liked this song. And I love piano music. Thank you for sharing this.

  • Fats Waller was one of a kind: a great musician and performer - and this is one of his best!

  • que musica me relaja y me pongo en otro mundo.

  • No need to have one's eyes open. I just use my ears and let the music flow through me. And Fats Waller piano playing and singing take far, far from the routine of life.

  • Puts me in a happy mood.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!

    LIBERTY HILL TX

  • FABULOUS---he was a consumate entertainer-when he raises those brow and rolls those eyes you can't help but laugh along with him.

  • Muito bom.

  • Thanks for posting... kind of a weird tag at the end, huh? Guess they hit 3 1/2 minutes and ran out of wax.

  • Thank you for the post I do so like this music

Take care from Earl in Huntington Beach Ca.

  • Thanks to whoever posted this. I pretty much stay away from YouTube, but I was digging for info about Mr Waller, who I've been listening to since I was 8. The classic solo-as-intro is SO Fats-perfect it made me tear up. And yes, it's always been clear to me, the musical communion between Fats and Bach, I could hear it as a child. So thanks. Now I have to see if I can find Jess Stacy's solo on Christopher Columbus...

  • I've been listening to to Fats since 1965 in my little studio apartment on east 78th St in New York (which don't have any more) Thats how he is.

  • Liszt,Rubenstein,Horowitz,Chopin

    and Waller were the greatest

    pianists who ever lived.

    anything what waller played

    was 100% awesome.he was a

    god on piano.

  • @Pentagonshark666

Chopin wasn't, he was a great composer but not a good pianist. He had a very good left hand technique but struggle to play in time, apparently. He was really good improviser though something like 80% of his works began life as an improvisation. He wasn’t really a pianist like Liszt was, Chopin only play 36 times in public, in his lifetime he was more of a composer than pianist and composer.

  • @DCTheGuitarist where did you find that information??

  • @MuscleheadsUnite

Oxford companion to music, has bits about his life and works, there’s also a couple of other bio books that talk about his personal life.

  • This song isn't just great, it's a masterpiece. It's been going round my head for 40 years or so, since my Dad introduced me to it.

  • Great !!

  • My music teacher told me there were four greats in piano playng - Liszt, Rubenstein, Horowitz and Waller.

  • Your teacher was absolutely right. Anybody in doubt just listen to Waller's version of Carolina Shout...

Anybody ever wondered why Art Tatum never recorded it? Probably because he knew he couldn't top Fats.

  • JazzBrother. My teacher also said that Fats Waller won an International classical piano competition beating some later famous concert pianists. Do you know anything about this?

  • I didn't know about that one, but it sounds possible, specially because at a very young age he used to go to his father's church and played Bach by heart on the organ.

His playing went beyond the concept of playing the right notes, which is what most classical musicians concentrate on at the beginning (hopefully ONLY at the beginning). He had a deep understanding of music, which must have given him that advantage as a young player.

I should check his biography, "Ain't Misbehavin'".

  • Man, I just thought... you are very lucky to have such an open-minded teacher...

  • Thanks, Jazz. He was open minded. He actually had manuscripts copied from Liszt himself. My teacher said that anyone can be made a concert pianist after 10 years of the correct training.

  • Yes, provided they receive it from the CORRECT teacher(s)...

And I'm sure your teacher was the correct one!

  • Thanks.

  • i love it - and him

  • Pure genius.

  • Opps, should be a ? mark.

  • Why do songs from this era, ten to have long intro's.

  • Cause people could really play their instruments back then. I rarely hear any kind of solo in popular music anymore. that's why I like the old stuff better.

  • Ya, got ta 'gree withe that Krunchy. The intro sets the whole tone as instrumental. Popular music is often, then and now, pretty thin on lyrical depth and that's fine if the singing is good; if it's not, what's left?

  • @skaleewag Agreed, but for this, I find myself liking every single jazz, blues, etc. song from this era

  • @skaleewag not sure about the lyrics being 'light' , compared to these days when the word lyrics is often a misnomer . one of the greatest !

  • @Krunchypants - hope you'll check out my channel for more old stuff. 500 playlists for 360 artists and every year since 1900. It's a trip back in time with a century of pop music from around the world.

It's only possible thanks to the kind uploaders ! !

  • @Krunchypants Still today you can go to youtube and look up Allen Dale

he play the way you would enjoyhe knows LOTS of good music

  • @Krunchypants Just because you can solo doesn't mean the music is good. A friend of mine is in a grunge band. He can solo like mad, but their music is incredibly dull.

  • @Krunchypants amen to that...

  • fats has big intros because most of his songs he came up with siting in a jazz club doing improve. during the intro he would set the tone and create the lyrics. rather a remarkable man

  • Thanks for the upload!

    This song is amazing!

  • Fats Waller was one of the greatest jazz pianist

    anything he played was awesome

  • comedic but somewhat sad haha

    nice upload

  • this is the most awesome song i've heard, and i'm 16!Thank you so much for posting!

  • @paddaya

Heard anything else thats awsome recently?

Can't beat FATS in my opinion, there are some really REALLY cool players out there [living & dead], but Mr waller really hits the spot for me :o)

  • Thanks for your post. What a great song

and this is my letter, to you. May you have a good day all your life. James Earl

  • Yes! Thank you for posting the Original!

  • Love it!

    Thanks for posting!
