@tvfilm you should be banned from music counseling/teaching. That my friend, is the reason why we have shitty music today, because of guys like you that don't give a shit about music, harmony and repeat the same thing over and over again
@DajaWaja Relax idiot. I was joking but it's true a lot of the early songs used 3 chords for rhythm. This song is using the same chords, there's only so many chords. So relax. LOL. Why do you get all crazy online? Seriously? It makes you look like an idiot. Ban people for talking? Get the F out of here with your anger issues.
I had been up from 7:30 and was just on my way home at 9:00. This came on the radio and it instantly made my mood do a 180. I am in love with this. Thanks, Fats Waller, for making my long, hard day end fantastically. <3
My GOODNESS this music is entertaining! You REALLY had to have some talent in those days in order to stand out from all the other talent that worked their chops everyday in the clubs. This music is so special in SO many ways it shows how Jazz was one of THE greatest inventions to come out of America.
What a man a total genius, with such self-deprocating humour, where do these modern self important and usually pretty shitty pop acts get off on being soooo serious about themselves.Fats wrote musicals, played church &cinema organs, was a comedy genius and could out drink and out gamble any indi rock band, plus Idon,t think you'd want to fight such a big guy with such fast(anagram) hands......J.B.

Hi, can anyone tell me where I can find the sheet music for this song? Can find several versions of the song, but never with this piano... And it's rather difficult to play the whole song only by hearing...

my nana did sit down and write herself a letter, after her father died she had to live with an awful auntie so she wrote a letter address it to herself saying she had a job and place to live so her auntie let her go
0lá José! Eu aprecio bastante Thomas (Fats) Waller. Eu penso mesmo que ele contribuiu de certa maneira para o aparecimento do R&B e Rock'N'Roll da década de 50.
So soft, so sweet, so naive... It belongs to an era without fear to be happy, an era far from vulgarity... I have been loving this tune since I was a child. Antonio Augusto from Brazil
I got a 45 of this record today for just 20 cents in excellent condition! At the dawn of the 45 era in the early '50s, RCA would reissue some of their oldies of the day, and I happened to get a copy!
No need to have one's eyes open. I just use my ears and let the music flow through me. And Fats Waller piano playing and singing take far, far from the routine of life.
Thanks to whoever posted this. I pretty much stay away from YouTube, but I was digging for info about Mr Waller, who I've been listening to since I was 8. The classic solo-as-intro is SO Fats-perfect it made me tear up. And yes, it's always been clear to me, the musical communion between Fats and Bach, I could hear it as a child. So thanks. Now I have to see if I can find Jess Stacy's solo on Christopher Columbus...
Chopin wasn't, he was a great composer but not a good pianist. He had a very good left hand technique but struggle to play in time, apparently. He was really good improviser though something like 80% of his works began life as an improvisation. He wasn’t really a pianist like Liszt was, Chopin only play 36 times in public, in his lifetime he was more of a composer than pianist and composer.
JazzBrother. My teacher also said that Fats Waller won an International classical piano competition beating some later famous concert pianists. Do you know anything about this?
I didn't know about that one, but it sounds possible, specially because at a very young age he used to go to his father's church and played Bach by heart on the organ.
His playing went beyond the concept of playing the right notes, which is what most classical musicians concentrate on at the beginning (hopefully ONLY at the beginning). He had a deep understanding of music, which must have given him that advantage as a young player.
I should check his biography, "Ain't Misbehavin'".
Thanks, Jazz. He was open minded. He actually had manuscripts copied from Liszt himself. My teacher said that anyone can be made a concert pianist after 10 years of the correct training.
Cause people could really play their instruments back then. I rarely hear any kind of solo in popular music anymore. that's why I like the old stuff better.
Ya, got ta 'gree withe that Krunchy. The intro sets the whole tone as instrumental. Popular music is often, then and now, pretty thin on lyrical depth and that's fine if the singing is good; if it's not, what's left?
