I disagree with some of Obama's ideas, but I must agree that this is a great action for the president to do, no matter who he is. Students are the future, and being one of them myself, I know that we need inspiration from people like him. Good job, Mr. President.

Speeches aren't going to influence kids. Most kids don't even read books anymore due to facebook and video games. Sadly the education system need to show kids instant results because that is what the younger generation is used to. It takes good parents and a mature child to understand the importance of taking schooling seriously.

Its ridiculous seeing right-wing media call this indoctrination. It's a (politically) substance-free motivational speech. Fox News, and specifically Glenn Beck, are blatantly fear-mongering and creating false controversy to support their own political goals.
I don't see how anyone could turn this into a political issue (cough, Sir Glenn Beck the Mentally Unstable). I found this very inspiring. It was a genuine message of encouragement to our youth to take advantage of their educational opportunities, to believe in themselves, and to work hard. He was by no means trying to "indoctrinate" our youth. Even my mother (a home-school mom, a die-hard Sarah Palin fan and not necessarily a fan of Obama's politics) appreciated what he said with this speech.
I know, Some people actually think America is a country...but why is this continuously and stupidly promoted.. when there's something like 35 countries in the American continents, There is no such country as America, US yes, but it's just a collection, a union of states, sad really. it ain't a country, you have no country.

As much as i disagree with Obama's ideas, i think it's good that he is going to schools and making speeches telling kids to start thinking about school more. A lot of kids don't have any direction in their life and need to here it from someone. For all of the people saying this is "stupid" that he is giving a lot of speeches to help kids is wrong. You may be doing fine in school and don't need to hear it again, however there are lots of kids that are failing every class and need some direction

Did it ever occur to you that maybe they just aren't school material. If a child isn't academically fit for school, why should we force them to go? People fall into this belief that every person can be college educated. We need some sort of plan for these people, because most might not even be business savvy enough to start one up. I think more emphasis needs to be put on trade schools, and to promote those fields more.
@Devildriver763 Just be thankful there is a job market for higher educated people. For example in Egypt, 95 percent of the people have at least one college degree, but they are being underemployed. People that should be engineers are working as merchants on the streets. I do believe every person can be college educated. It's a matter of how hard they work and the amount of effort they put in. Kid's laziness these days is unexceptional. Education is key in maintaining a successful country.
This is a new approach. Every president should do this. It's a speech for the youth of America. I think its a message of it is to prepare the youth of America to face to the problems going on today, and problems that will arise in the future.

As a British citizen, its a very interesting speech. I like the guesture, but I would guess that a person who is likely to 'drop school' isn't likely to watch a politician speak about it - though he has a cool factor other politicans lack. I think that people like this can usually only be shocked back into education and sometimes, it can be many years before they realise how badly they have messed their lives up, and so its also vitally important that money is also invested into adult education.

The BP oil spill was worse than katrina and it is still not cleaned up, the stimulus bill was a fail and unemployment remains in the double digets and under employment is high. Afghanistan has gotten worse because of his actions and the stimulas has not fully kicked in. Yes, a lot of this started under the bush administration, but that was almost two years ago.

Speeches aren't going to influence kids. Most kids don't even read books anymore due to facebook and video games. Sadly the education system need to show kids instant results because that is what the younger generation is used to. I don't see how anyone could turn this into a political issue (cough, Sir Glenn Beck the Mentally Unstable). I found this very inspiring. It was a genuine message of encouragement to our youth to take advantage of their educational opportunities, to believe in themselves, and to work hard. He was by no means trying to "indoctrinate" our youth. Even my mother (a home-school mom, a die-hard Sarah Palin fan and not necessarily a fan of Obama's politics) appreciated what he said with this speech.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe they just aren't school material. If a child isn't academically fit for school, why should we force them to go? People fall into this belief that every person can be college educated. We need some sort of plan for these people, because most might not even be business savvy enough to start one up. I think more emphasis needs to be put on trade schools, and to promote those fields more.

People that should be engineers are working as merchants on the streets. I do believe every person can be college educated. It's a matter of how hard they work and the amount of effort they put in. Kid's laziness these days is unexceptional. Education is key in maintaining a successful country.

As a British citizen, its a very interesting speech. I like the guesture, but I would guess that a person who is likely to 'drop school' isn't likely to watch a politician speak about it - though he has a cool factor other politicans lack. I think that people like this can usually only be shocked back into education and sometimes, it can be many years before they realise how badly they have messed their lives up, and so its also vitally important that money is also invested into adult education.

The BP oil spill was worse than katrina and it is still not cleaned up, the stimulus bill was a fail and unemployment remains in the double digets and under employment is high. Afghanistan has gotten worse because of his actions and the stimulas has not fully kicked in. Yes, a lot of this started under the bush administration, but that was almost two years ago.

Ok look. Its fine to like Barack Obama but do not indoctrinate like a coward. Its simple
just teach the class without political favorites of any kind weather it would be for a liberal/ progressive cause like this or a conservative cause. Not even a libertarian cause. It does not matter no politics in the schools at all and it does not matter either if the school is public or private, NO POLITICS. This is not a racist comment. Facts just need to be faced.
