As long as a game is a 32 bit executable, disabling DEP almost always fixes it, don't even see why MoneySoft put it in anyways

Here's my way to do install the game on vista (I actually did this)

1.Download the game

2. install it

3. play! :3

Worked for me at least! :D

Dang! I can get my game to run from its original CD, but that means that every time I listen to an audio log, there is a pause for a couple of seconds while the disc speeds up, which is a bit annoying. I'd happily overlook that though, were it not for my other problem, which is that I can't seem to get any mods to work on Vista, and the game is markedly better (IMO) with the ReBirth and SHTUP mods. :/ Oh well...

If anyone's had any luck with running SS2 on Vista WITH mods, please let me know!

on the cd a file is located called "IV5PLAY.exe". this will install the codecs the game uses fpr the videos

i had that problem... but what u have to do is right click the .exe files, and "run as admnistrator". THats pretty much it.

SS2 looks and plays like the grand game that it is. Cult classic? Indeed! Count me as an experienced gamer who really appreciates just how good a game it still is. Coloration in graphics can stand its own even today.

@zhopenza: I just do normal install and it runs perfectly. No magic tricks needed for me.

Google TTLG forums and check "How To Run System Shock 2 on Windows XP/2000 !" thread. Thats alot of stuff to read but it is worth it if you can get it running.

@Mii85 Yeah, I actually got it to work using the patch and a crack, also had to mod the CFG file and disable a CPU to run it single core.

I'm sure the game just demands Manifest files that the newer versions of Windows don't have. But either way, I got it working on my XP laptop :)

Great video. Thank you for this. Finally got SS2 to load past the main menu. Don't know how much it works beyond that, but this is a helpful start.

It wouldn't let me save the .cfg file though, I'm not sure if that's what the "blank wordpad document" step was for, but I saved it as a .txt file, threw it in the directory, and it worked after that. Didn't have to go further.

Maybe just running it in 2000 compatibility mode is what did it.

whenever i try to input 'cd systemshock2' on the command prompt, i keep getting 'the system cannot find the specified path.'.. im actually running the 'disk' through daemon tools, too. do i need to burn the iso file onto a disk and locate it through that? or am i stuck trying to use the task manager, when it starts? (and how would i use task manager to disable my second core for the game?)

dos only allows 8 chars for folder names.. DOS only ever had allowed 8 chars for anything.. since later versions and stuff in windows changed this, Dos had to adapt to allow certain things..

you need to put in cd sshock2. also with the patch i find that i do not need to use daemon tools or even burn the iso to a disc. hope that helps

Im really trying to get this to work on Windows XP Vienna Service Pack 3....but it freezes in the begining of the game. It starts letting you play but then it just freezes. It wont even progress to any of the action.
