  • Superb....... Fucking Superb

Wolf me down for tea tonight

  • homeless guy told me he would give me the best peice of adive available in the world if i lent him some money for somthing to eat. i gave him 50p and he simply said "the stone roses, son" then walked off......

  • @koalajones88 oasis are indeed fucking terrible but come on,joy division?

  • Got my ticket for the greatest show on earth just hope England do us a favour and get in to the European final!!

  • there fucking back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sitting here in Widnes in my Mersey Paradise, listening to the best band ever. Welcome back Roses.

  • @cjdalton1981

me 2!!!! with the knowledge i got a ticket today!!!

  • Any danger that some of you warriors could just listen to a class act singing a class song and celebrate the fact they are reforming? You know, rather than just wanking over who can insult who from which end of the M62? Ta

  • Just heard the stone roses have reformed. Hope they do a uk tour.;)

  • The Stone Roses transcend Manchester - they were EVERYTHING at the time - bet your life I'll meet a pike, who'll wolf me down for tea tonight - river-cool's where I belong! Stop moaning - start listening...

  • @TomSpartan218 ive got family and friends in manchester and they agree with me . youre probably an ill informed yank . tosser

  • best song of the stone roses in my opinion. Weird that it was just a b-side.

  • It's a song about a boat which was docked on the banks of the Mersey to escort the royal family to America if we were ever invaded and overrun by Germans during the second world war. They would have left us all to become Kuntz, eating pickled cabbage and bratwurst.

"If she were there I'd hold her down

I'll push her under while she drowns and

Couldn't breathe and call for air

She doesn't care for my despair"

That lyric passage is in regards to the queen. I'm singing concrete facts.

  • I'm from Manchester and I concede that Liverpool is a much better city, so much more attractive with more intelligent people. Better music...which can be demonstrated by one song. Forget the Beatles/Bunnymen et al...'There She Goes' cannot be bettered by anyone.

  • @MGJMESSNER very brave comment as you seem to be commenting on a tune that is a lot better than that. there she goes is nothing more than average.

  • I moved up to Manchester in 1989 - the best move I ever made at the time - this song reminds me of so many good times - bless the Roses :)

  • no excuse to do not like this wonderful song...

  • im scouse and stone roses are my favourite band. who gives a shit which city is better. i think we can at least agree that north>south

  • yes its true the mancs have made the best musuc lately. but liverpool is the classier city and the mancs know it

  • Makes me proud to be a mancunian

  • This is the best B Side ever recorded , in musical history !

Easily good enough to have been not only on the debut album but also could have happily been a single from it . I have the cassette single of She Bangs The Drums which has this and Standing Here on it . That's got to be the best value for money single i ever bought. Superb !

  • Sounds like Here comes the Sun by George Harrison

  • @zefer07 funny I just notced that and came to comment seems I am a bit late,

It's also reminds me of Thick as Thieves (The Jam) at about 1.58 "thick as thieves us".

or rather that borrowed from Here comes the sun too v=_VQkUXq37-0

  • @zefer07 the song was by the beatles

  • @XboxKenny1992 It was written entirely by George Harrison and is considered his song.

"Here Comes the Sun" is a song by George Harrison < Wikipedia

  • @zefer07 but when i type it into youtube it says " the beatles - " here comes the sun "

  • Sounds a lot like Heres come the sun. Well, im talking about the guitar part.

  • @TomSpartan218 HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD THERE MATE; INCOMPARABLE.

  • oasis's music is good, shame there total dickhead's

  • Oasis are twats, roses, inspirals, charlatans

    were the dogs bollocks.

  • People should stop arguing and just agree that Manchester make the best music. Being from Leeds I hate the football teams but look at the bands, Joy Division, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Oasis, all from Manchester, you don't get better than that.

  • @joeblufc joy division, the smiths, the roses and oasis thats only 4 bands can name loads from down south the kinks, rolling stones, the jam, the clash, the who. id say the north and south are equal in musical talent but one things for sure all the best music is english

  • @joeblufc Oasis doesn't belong with those other bands.

  • @DDDDDeannnnn Why don't they?

  • @joeblufc don't forget north side they deserve more credit

  • Probably the most accessible of the SR tunes. Notable for its ethereal guitar work, and fantastic backing vocals by the best rock drummer of the 90s if not the post-Moon era.

  • for all those who say that noel is the best writer.... he's not. he said so himself. that honor he gives (and i agree) to steven patrick morrissey. nothing oasis did comes close to anything what morrissey writes

  • @dukedodgington Take in to account that 'the best song writer' competition you're referring to, is opinion based, not factual, stop being a narrow-minded cunt and let people believe and listen to what they want, without trying to shit on their parade. Oasis were better than The smiths regardless. Both great bands however.

  • @bradhatesmanu lol. noel himself says morrissey was better. oasis were a good band, but did nothing that changed anything. they were basically 90s less talented version of the beatles . and you could tell that immediately with how much liam pretended like he was john lennon in his entire stage persona

  • @dukedodgington Oasis did nothing to change anything?? Most english bands after 1996 all to a certain extent rose to Oasis' call... The Verve, Travis... Stereophonics, all took their direction fron Oasis lead. Even later, the likes of The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys or even Coldplay have all said Oasis was a massive infuence.... and these days, ask any young indie guitar band at all, and they'll all say Oasis was the reason they picked up guitars... Bands as they are today are ALL traced to oasis

  • @dukedodgington

Liam' stage persona is literally nothing like John Lennon's whatsoever.

Possibly the steangest comment i have ever read.

    Just wow.

  • @1878EFC2008 um, he based his scowl/dress sense so obviously on john lennon. i mean, i dunno why anyone is talking about oasis in 2011, but still.

  • @baboon2525

ah yes the famous Lennon scowl!

    lol

  • @1878EFC2008 FUNNY

  • @baboon2525 Liam Gallaghers vocal style is influenced by John Lennon obviously, but his stage persona is nothing like John Lennon, His scowl is more like John Lydon, Since when did John Lennon have a scowl anyway????? Anyway why argue about it? This is a Stone Roses video, lets just agree about how fucking good they were, and show some respect for Ian, John, Reni and Mani :)

  • @deebo80sw6 fair point about not arguing :) Amazing, amazing music.

  • the only thing wrong with this song, is that its too short

  • Brown was born in Warrington and moved to Trafford when he was a kid. If you live in trafford the nearest team is United. Plus, United in the 70s were crap so hardly glory hunting to start supporting them.

  • @snackster Agreed. They were relegated at one point. Well said.

  • Roses - Oasis - Kasabian - all these goods

  • @JonnyKasabian i think your missing the best band joy division?

  • just amazing no dout about tht yeh there is there fcking awsome better than tht legends aha love the roses

  • Was this song included on an 'album' called 'Turns into stone'? I think i have it somewhere?

  • @johnnycheck99 yup I've got the album its a collection of their singles and B-sides

  • Is there a more joyful song about murder and suicide?

  • the river mersey originates in Stockport.. Ians home town

  • @lammyman3 he's from warrington actually

  • Those top 2 comments are VERY well put and I sit back stoned safe in the knowledge that there are some people out there with EXCEPTIONAL musical taste!!

As for the 10 imbeciles who disliked this........ well, FOOK OFF and listen to Michael BOOBIE or whatever he's called!

  • @TripleX808 well said fella, now can I have a chug of that spliff? nice 1!

  • The Beatles - Here comes the sun

    +

The Smiths You just haven't earned it yet baby

    =

    this song

  • @fede018 Agreed. Plus I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better by The Byrds. Both songs sound like total joy.

  • @fede018 Very intuitive of you.......and very correct.

  • Amazing tune, and 10 dislikes, fuck all hope for humanity

  • scoucers rule and dont ever forget that

  • @ellenkirwin1 spot on there mate

  • @ellenkirwin1 learn how to spell scousers A

  • fuck the tories!

  • Comment removed

  • Classic MADCHESTER.

  • How can 10 people dislike this? Cretins!!

  • @Aoifesmum1888 must be justin beiber and lady gaga fans haha the homo's

  • for a mere b side this threatens to surpass any song oasis have ever done.

  • @123Agentorange it doesnt threaten ,it does

  • This tune sends shivers down my spine, I cant explain it , it moves my soul !!!!

  • Always loved this. Perfection.

  • 10 scousers wached this video

  • @yougottaloveit100 you made me laugh out loud....maximum respeck.... :-)

  • @alanlaing hahaha cheers mate

  • @yougottaloveit100 its talking about the Mersey so im sure scousers appreciate that

  • @20cFilmWannabe read the lyrics mate

  • @yougottaloveit100 i know its a joke and to be honest who actually notices that its a piss take people hear "mersey" and associate it with liverpool and its a good song so basically a fail by ian brown

  • @20cFilmWannabe hahaha wat ever mate at the end of the day its a piss take and i think its funny as fuck

  • @yougottaloveit100 more to do with irony than a pisstake, but yeah, fuck it, it's a ace tune, that's all that matters!

  • @yougottaloveit100 at the end of the day its a good song not noted for its "piss take" so....

  • @20cFilmWannabe ye its a good tune and i noticed that its a piss take, its obvious its a piss take, 1st of all what other reason would a manc write a tune about liverpool unless its a piss take,

  • @yougottaloveit100 he's not a manc he's from warrington which stands on the banks of the mersey he's just a glory hunter that supports united

  • @yougottaloveit100 So you think that people from Liverpool cant like a Manchester band? Why would you assume scousers disliked the video?

  • @MrGeorge138 no mate it was just a bit of banter

  • @yougottaloveit100 Either way, Roses back together, fuckin nice one

  • @MrGeorge138 ye i know man its fucking ace

  • Can't believe 10 people dislike this. Few beers, cheeky line and this on xmas day, marvellous.

  • @sunshinesbeter that phuriousstyles sounds like a yank prick tryin to be sound clever(a bit like a fat bird tryin to fit into size 8....impossible) your spot on pal :) lol ps you a latchford or stocky heath lad by any chance?? :)

  • @MrTonybag ha ha..septic tanks eh!..im from woolston m8..best wishes n have a fab 2011 :-)

  • ten people in the world are cunts

  • @joydivision808 lol much more than that m8

  • mersey runs through warrington...nothin to do with mancs or micky mousers

  • @SUNSHINESBETER you should of listened in geography.

The River Mersey (pronounced /ˈmɝːzi/) is a river in North West England. It is around 70 miles (113 km) long, stretching from Stockport, Greater Manchester, and ending at Liverpool Bay, Merseyside. For centuries, it formed part of the ancient county divide between Lancashire and Cheshire

  • @PhuriousStyles thanks for the info..however i know my history n geography...ian brown is from lymm, which is a borough of warrington,,3/4's of the town sits on the northside of the river, which was lanc's,(that changed in 74 to ches), n the other bit cheshire....so i guess his childhood memories may reflect,a tad, on his songwriting??..btw..i grew up next to the mersey n manchester ship canal..so dont try n be clever telling me about how its pronounced ..yer snap on!

  • @SUNSHINESBETER nice one lol

  • @SUNSHINESBETER noone cares mate

  • If you want to to hear something awsome from Liverpool, look up a group called Shack

try looking up " heres tom with the weather" and go from there, lots of variety to choose from!

  • If you want to to hear something awsome from Liverpool, look up shack

try looking up heres tom with the weather and go from there, lots of variety to choose from!

  • I thought it was something to do with Merseyside etc Mersey. lol

  • 10 dislikes? dont people know good music anymore?

  • Loads of interpretation of this! I've heard the often said one that this is mainly about a chill place that Ian found near the Mersey. However, and more than a few of my scouse mates agree, that this is a very slight, tongue in cheek piss take of Liverpool "River cools" is surely a play on words. There is also the blatant rip of "here comes the sun" by Squire. However, a great song and they released it as a fucking b side?!!! What a band they were. Both cities, music wise, are different class.

  • I just love the drum fills in this cut.

  • The 9 people who disliked this can go and kill themselves.

One of my favourite Roses tunes. Fucking brilliant.

  • hands-down one of the greatest b-sides ever written

  • I cover 'Mersey Paradise' at every gig. Merseybeat is the best, and I'm a Yank!

  • @tradfan Love that the Roses are getting a bit of appreciation in America, as one of the finest bands to come out of our undisputed musical nation but it's not merseybeat pal. Merseybeat stopped as the beatles started, it's an early 60s genre.

  • @senorsquirt02 OK then. I sometimes do this one and 'Bus Stop' together. 2 of the best ever-and both Manc tunes! FKN brilliant, the both of 'em!

  • The main riff does sound as though its heavily influenced by Here Comes The Sun. Brilliant stuff though. Top band.

  • this song is so beautiful, so fuckin great, so fuckin amazing that makes me cry..

I think it's because we all know that there is no chance for hearing such music in our lifetime..

  • @Noelgallagher290567 thats very humble of you Noel

  • PROPER MUSIC MANC LEGENDS FROM A FELLOW MANC

  • Liverpool n manchester pisses ova any other city in the world when it comes to footy n music. Yeah barca got gr8 team but name me one gr8 catalonia band?! Manchester utd,Liverpool, stone roses & the beatles i rest my case.

  • @shebangsthedrums89 well said mate even tho there is obviously a big fukin rivallry between the 2 football clubs!

  • @shebangsthedrums89

Think you're forgetting about the biggest Manchester band of them all, ehh????

  • @OasisKid99 you bee smokin crack mate?? oasis are no bad....average if we are bein honest...

  • @121rolex

No crack for me mate, it just happens to be my opinion. I think Oasis are the best band ever, laugh all you want. There is no "proving" me wrong. That's why beauty is in the eye of the beholder, no? Noel Gallagher is the greatest living songwriter in my OPINION. Can't prove me wrong now can you? Love you brother.

  • @OasisKid99 fair play man....im all for respectin other peoples opinions...but do you honestly think noel is a better wordsmith than dylan...really????? "the sink is full of fishes, shes got dirty dishes on the brain" " theyre sellin postcards of the hangin" by the way...im no a big dylan fan..but i do reckon he is the cheif chirper for songwriting...love you too bro.

  • @121rolex

Don't act like a little child and quote silly lyrics from Noel. I can play that CHILD'S game with any songwriter. I wonder why you didn't quote these Noel lyrics? " Is anyone here prepared to say Just what they mean or is it too late? For anyone here to try to do, just what it takes to get through to you. So let's all make believe

That we're still friends and we like each other

    Let's all make believe

In the end we gonna need each other.

  • @121rolex Strangle my hope and make me pray To a god I've never seen but who I betray To the people who live the afterlife And the place I'll never be 'til I'm crucified So let's all make believe We're still friends and we like each other Let's all make believe In the end we'll need each other Let's all make believe That all mankind's gonna feed our brother Let's all make believe That in the end we won't grow old
  • @121rolex

Seriously, brother, I will play this GAME all day with you. Noel's B-Sides are better than most other band's entire career's. I am dead serious. I will play this GAME all day with you mate. Keep going, I dare you.

  • @OasisKid99 ok...if you would just connfirm for everybody else then that reads these posts, you think oasis are the best musicians/songwriters ever.... they are more talented than the beatles and the rolling stones and radiohead, and rem for that matter

.....i must add, none of these bands happen to be my favourite...but the bands i have mentioned i think myself aswell as the vast population of the musical world would conncur are at the top of their game....

  • @OasisKid99 oasis are my 2nd favourite group ever! yeah to be fair i couldve mentioned the coral, the la's, the smiths, happy mondays, new order, black grape, everton etc etc just further proves that manchester n liverpool wipe the floor with other cities

  • @shebangsthedrums89 I'm from Sheffiedl. You're right.

  • Comment removed

  • @shebangsthedrums89 ... and OASIS, mate, come on! :)

  • @missSandygallagher agreed. and oasis!!!!

  • @shebangsthedrums89 fuck off ya cunt julio inglesia sold more records than the beatles n stone roses together FACT ya car jacking prick

  • with out lennon an the boys there wud b no madchester,we do everythin first scousers rule and dont use forget it!!!!

  • @nipperisboss really though, everyone takes inspiration from somewhere, thats a typical american argument. The yanks try to turn sabbath, stones, beatles, led zep, floyd ect into THEIR thing, just by using the old "oh but they got their inspiration from a b and c"

At the end of the day, its the actual band that play the music that is great

  • The Bog's Dollocks

  • The most underrated lyricist ever!!!!

I formed a band after listening to the Roses (no, you won't have heard of us!!!). I was pretty good with lyrics (biased opinion) , but no matter how hard i tried, couldn't get close to Brown/Squire. Fantastically metaphoric

  • Ian Brown is from Warrington so im guessin its about where he grew up

  • @L1Scouser its about a place in manchester where the mersey briefly touched where they would sit and smoke ,write ,chill ,near timperly so im told ...

  • If there weren't bands like they, you do think which shit we had to listen to.

    They are the fuckin best..

Everything fits in their music not a bloody note out of tune.. Fuck off for today's shit music

  • @Noelgallagher290567 ..great comment..still after all these years..it sounds class.. so glad i was there to witness it all..the crap they give us today .. can never live up to the roses..

  • Comment removed

  • @Noelgallagher290567 - Defo agree with you mate, I'm only 23 but can tell that todays shite doesn't come close to past music and music like this from the legendary Stones Roses

  • I'm eating sand when I need air!

  • dead to 9 idiots

  • Hate the lyrics but like the melody :D

  • @oeyvind93 Get drunk turn it up and the lyrics wont matter !

  • @oce1989 haha! thats true ;)

  • or reni...voice of an octopus arms of an angel

  • @stankler class lol

  • this song is about the govt dumping the gold AND the royal family at liverpool during the last world war for a quick escape, liverpool amd manchester are the same thing, within 30 years they will have joined togetherr geographically as a metropolis....cant wait to hear that accent, im sure it will be close to warrington and halewood

  • @EVERTONIC

Not necessarily that's if the population of the United Kingdom raises, and like most of Europe I believe the UK has an aging population, of course there's immigration but that poses a lot of threats.

  • @EVERTONIC I think it's actualy about a murder/drowning in the river near where Ian grew up...

  • @EVERTONIC erm yeah thats what its about.?!...and the land between liverpool and manchester will never be built on, come off it

  • epic

  • why was it song a b- side??? a great life mistery

  • the mersey paradise was a place near ians home outside his flat on a riverside where he used to write songs etc

  • u poor deluded manc ha ha

  • millbrook79 you idiot, it's anti-Liverpool you thicko. Plus, it's 'river cools'.

    Go lick Lennon's arse.

  • @mufcok1878 its not a diss to Liverpool, hence the line 'I feel like growing fins & jumping in with the bikes the rusty tins' & look at what the songs' called! BUT if Ur a Manc U hav a point Manchester make the best music, Liverpool only just had the best band of all time

  • @handsomedevil98 The La's?

  • @weecoby3 Yeah good band but nothing on the Roses, yet I support Liverpool FC but in music its all about Madchester!

  • liverpools where i belong in my mersey paradise. yer you wouldent want to live in manchester. ha ha

  • i grew up on a street called mersey and this was our anthem while getting smashed, oh yeah ! classic

  • tune!!

  • I swim along and I will meet a Pike,

  • one of the greatest b sides ever ! perfect summer song & i love the jingly jangly byrds feel to it

  • Totally both great fucking bands I might add.

  • my favourite song...ever...ever....

  • one of my favorites roses just classic.

  • yet again another top tune about widnes

  • Reni! Just listen to this again and sit in awe at what he does here! Voice of an angel ...arms of a fuckin' octopus .....

  • @weecoby3 so right, and the only player in the band who sounds better live than in the studio

  • @weecoby3 What a fookin' combination!!! Very well put btw.
