I don't blame Perner for the river call. When he calls the turn he has to be planning to check/call the river and catch a bluff.
I don't love the turn check/call though. If Ivey had called the flop with a J, 7 or higher pocket pair he was already beat, and the turn has filled in the flush and a gutshot. The only thing he can now beat is if Ivey had floated the flop, and he's committing himself to call again on the river. Reverse implied odds.
@Guinas916 I understand that most of youtube thinks they are poker pros and it's far from it, but why does everyone get so defensive and stuff. I rarely comment on videos. Well I begun playing 10cent sit and gos (yes 10cents) because I literally built my way up from 1 dollar and now I play 33dollar sit and gos multitable, I am going up to new stakes soon, but they pay well, especially if you are multitabling. I could play higher but I manage my bank roll. Regards.
U guys dont get it, its phil ivey he could ahve anything , you dont know how much he was betting and betting in that table that day.... and the river was kind of good to 22 ..why?= cuz if ivey have even the nut flush or second nut flush...he is crushed with the full house of perner...so he wanted to make a hero call...
perner is an idiot.... wtf is he doing by calling on the turn with just pocket 2s?!?!?.. Flush got there, str8 got there.. and the board was paired!!! he deserve to lose!.
@maurito1975 LOL. R U kidding? Last time I checked, a full house beats any flush or straight... Maybe not in your country, but in the rest of the world it certainly does... ;-) Oh, and by the way, the board was a bit more than paired... Have fun learning poker, but remember: calling others "idiots" never looks good on anyone. But doing so when you got it all wrong yourself... ouch. ;-)
@qqleq2 What part of "CALLING ON THE TURN with just pocket 2s" you didn't understand??? Last time I checked you need three of a kind + a pair to have a full house... and I didn't see that on the turn you stupid moron!
@maurito1975 LOL. At least I didn't call anyone else an idiot before I made one out of myself... Ouch! I overlooked 2 words: "the turn". In life, that's just human error. On the web, that makes you an absolute ass, an idiot. Go on, flame me some more - I deserve it. ;-) But to answer your original question: he thought Ivey was bluffing. Scary board. Makes sense. He misread. It happens. Doesn't make him an idiot. Me, yes. Him, no. But remember: there is no class in calling people idiots.

thats such an easy fold for perner. ivey couldve had a J an 8 pocket 3's even ace seven suited. so many hands could beat perner.

What I love about Ivey is he plays his bluffs exactly the same way as he plays the nuts - that's why people like Perner make the call.

what Norman Chad says at :43-:50 is shown perfectly in this hand. Who else could get that much money out of someone with 22 with that board?
