  • Hey! What's Captain Spaulding from The Devil's Rejects doing here? ;-D

  • not exposed to smut on TV in the 70s?

I watched those scrambled channels for hours to get a glimpse of squiggly boobies

  • I hadn't seen Craig Littler in a very long time when I finally recognized him a couple of years ago as the Gorton's Fisherman! Charlie Dell (Parsafoot) still pops up on TV in guest spots all the time.

  • @epistrophy68 Craig was also in the movie Blazing Saddles!

  • Anything with Sid Haig in it was by definition - "cool".

  • Man. Back then everybody was cashing in on star wars.

  • When I was a kid...we considered these shows..."Poor Mans Star Wars".

  • neat o max

  • Now I know where Turkish Star Wars stole their stock footage from!

  • ahhhh by the guys that did He Man. Say no more

  • @ :31 - Sid Haig!

    Most interesting... most interesting indeed!

  • Sid Haig and Tamara Hobson were in this! Why hasn't Tarantino latched onto this property?

  • I think I mentioned this on another post, but - did anyone notice that the Space Academy "Seekers" and Jason of Star Command's ship had the same interior, even though they were vastly different on the outside?

  • Thank you for that! I remember seeing it back when I was a kid (Four years old at the time). Good stuff. Nobody yet has commented about James Doohan "Scotty" from the original "Star Trek" being on it, or I haven't read the comment yet.

  • I though Space Academy stunk back in the 1970s when it was first on. Norm Prescott and Lou whatever should have been thrown out a window over at CBS for comming up with such blah.

  • Wow I haven't seen that in decades! Check out Tamara Dobson with the red hair:)

  • My god did that man overdose on viagra?

  • Hmm, methinks I spy Ewoks!

  • hell nah! thats sid haig from the horror flick "The Devil's Rejects". i guess u gotta start somewhere joe. CHI-CITY!!

  • @26Deacon Hell, his career actualy goes back much further than THIS ! Check out a flick called Spider Baby ( from 1964 ), thats the movie which made him a cult-star in the first place.

  • Ugh. Horrible. Another schlock cheapie. Lived thru the '70s myself, but not all memories are good. Had successfully repressed the memory of this show until just now. Thanks. :-)

  • did you see "scottie" . Man, he fell aways from star trek years

  • nice sid haig

  • He was in a Rob Zombie film a while back...it's great that he's still acting. :)

  • looks groovy

  • I always wanted a W1k1! The second version was cooler looking. I'd forgotten they changed his look until I watched the DVDs. These old shows sure bring back memories. Makes me miss the more innocent times.

  • agreed outsider497

  • Arc 2 was also a great show

  • Comment removed

  • I remembered when this show was part of Tarzan and the Super Seven. I liked that show a lot. Then I remembered when it came on as it's own series during the first run of the 2nd season in all new episodes, before it was scratched from it's Saturday time slot to a non advertisment slot on Sundays for a year and a quarter, to be replaced by Shazam; then before CBS finally brought it back on Saturdays for one more round. I have it on DVD now. Great memories.

  • I wonder if, back when this was made, Sid Haig knew he'd be making horror remakes today

  • they got jason on star command on dvd you can rent it threw netflix and there not copyright protected

  • Do they have Space Academy on DVD too?

  • yes, I got it on DVD forgot where, I thanking walmart has it. or try amazon.

I got the six million dollar man and the bionic woman for around $120 each for the whole seris on amazon

thank one place even has big foot and wildboy going to get it next year

  • Another fun show from Lou Scheimer. I remember watching that show when I was a kid, and loved every minute of it. The represents the good old days of television when the good guys are really good, the bad guys seemed more funny-looking than scary, and life seemed magical and colorful.

  • wow i remember this show the dude with the lazer eye sitting at the table wow there was alot of these type shows back then....i loved them. sigh.

  • I'm sure a lot of people see this and think why would any kid watch utter cheese like this. Please understand, this was the 70's. We had 3 stations (4 if you were lucky) and the news or soaps were on 99% of the time. Cable was still only in a few cities, computers costed more than a car, the internet was still only a vague thought in the back of Gore's mind, and there just wasn't anything else cool to do except go out in the sun and play, which frankly sucked.

  • Special effects that we take for granted these days was a big deal back in the day. The "mecha" of Space Academy and Jason fo Star Command was really cool to kids like me growing up.

  • @starstarstar42 Oh yeah, .. right ! Like television today doesn't have its share cheesy garbage at all ! I guess they just didn't have really classy and sophisticated shows for kids,.. like Sponge Bob Squarepants or Dora The Explorer !

  • @Skulldini you mean like cheesy like the ending of lost?

  • @starstarstar42

It may be utter cheese but if your still alive in anthor era what would they say for the stuff were watching now?

  • @starstarstar42 You forgot that the little mini hand held robot was cool as hell!

  • @starstarstar42

He's right people. We didn't have VCRs, or a million channels to choose from. You kids are lucky. Starving children in China would be happy to watch stuff like this.

  • @starstarstar42...I hear you! But I would do almost anything to relive the '70's. Life was more simple and carefree back in those days not to mention more fun and suprising !

  • @stevemichiganman It was carefree because you were young; we all were. I didn't realize it because my life revolved around my little neighborhood, my friends & school, but there was an ugly world out there. Back then we lived under the daily cloud of Cold War and nuclear holocaust. Our governments were equally inept, and even more corrupt. Children were still suffering, only the abuses were more hidden & the stigma placed solely on them. No, it was not better, we just remember that way.

  • @starstarstar42... Everything you said is true. We were kids, what did we know about the real world? However, I still would love to relive this era even if it was only for one day.

  • @starstarstar42 Ummmm... 'costed? 'I was a kid during the 60s and 70s. These shows were for kids 11 and under. Back then, kids weren't exposed to smut the way they are today, so I suppose these shows would seem cheesy. No cable? We had affordable cable in our town of 20000 by 1970. And going outside to play didn't suck. It was fun! You see, that was called 'living.'

  • @kurtb8474 Ok, I think I get your point. You were an English major, don't watch porn and grew up in Tomorrow Land where everyone had cheap cable but you were too busy romping in the healthy sunshine to watch it. Well, the other 99.9% of us lived in suburbia. For us there was Jason of Star Command on an aerial antenna and a 13" tube tv. Mornings were spent inside in our footy-jammies watching toons. Frankly we loved it. "Outside" can go screw itself, I'm eating sugary sweets and staying in.

  • @starstarstar42 Where were you that you got 4 channels? All I could get was ABC, CBS, and NBC.

  • @folkmetalmusicman

ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS were the four that we got during my 1970's childhood. That was in Grand Rapids and later on in Detroit.

  • Sid HAIG? The same guy from "House of 1000 Corpses" was in that show?

(Hope "Jason" doesn't tell him that he hates clowns...)

  • Hey....

that mustache guy from Frankie Goes to Hollywood was on this show!!

  • SID HAIG!!! HAHAHA

  • I had forgotten all about this one! It was good to be a kid on Saturday morning in the 70's.

  • They used a lot of Stock footage from prime-time TV shows like Buck Rogers and space 1999.

  • no they did not

  • No they didn't. They used stock footage from Space Academy (Not Space 1999 or Buck Rogers)

  • Have you seen the show before?? The same people who made Space Academy also made Jason of Star Command (It was like a spin off of that show) . It was created by Filmation . The music you mentioned was featured in ALL cartoons made by Filmation (They own the music so they used it for all their shows).

  • Calm down. I too was just a kid 30 years ago. Considering it was 30 years ago and it was just a kid show the special effects were pretty good (better than the cheap ass CGI you see on "SYFY"), now go play with your action figures.

  • Well your were swearing so thats why I thought you were not calm. Well agree to disagree. I bought the dvds and as an adult I still enjoy it. The Special effects were good (For both Jason of Star Command and Space Academy). Stories were better in season 2 of Jason. Acting was good (come on Sid Haig was a great bad guy and they had Scotty fron Star Trek) I agree The late Tamara Dobson acting was hard to watch. Well these shows are better than the power rangers live action shows

  • when i was a kid, i thought they showed the same episode every wk. anybody else have the same feeling?

  • LOL.....yeah I thought the same thing too but I watched it anyway......LOL

  • damn this glaucoma! and my shitty blurred up vision!

Oh wait, that's not my eyes!

  • Everyone wanted a piece of Shatner's Pie

  • Even as a kid, I wondered how Jason of Star Command could be based in a secret section of the Space Academy asteroid. I mean, wouldn't the cadets notice everything that was going on with the Star Command bad guys?

Of course I knew it was just a show, but it bugged me that they expected kids to just swallow a gaping plot hole like that.

  • Holy shit I don't believe it. For the life of me I don't know why I knew about this show but I remember a show where they had a secret military base hidden in a school. I think this is it! What year was this made?

  • Space Academy ran from 9/10/77-12/17/77

    Jason ran from 9/9/78-12/1/79

    (Info from TV Rage)

The first year it was part of another show, so the episodes only ran 12-15 minutes each. The cast was different too. His female sidekick was Susan O'Hanlon playing Captain Nicole Davidoff and James Doohan (Scotty himself) playing Commander Canarvin.

  • The were some crossover between the 2 shows. The Robot Peepo appeared on both show. Also a minor character from Space Academy "Matt Prentiss" appeared on the episode "The Disappearing man" of Jason of Star Command

  • It had an opening narration too;

"Danger hides in the stars. This is the world of Jason of Star Command. A space-age soldier of fortune, determined to stop the most sinister force in the universe: Dragos, master of the cosmos! Aiding Jason in his battle against evil is a talented team of experts, all working together in a secret section of Space Academy. Jason of Star Command!

Then the episode title was announced.

Note that were never any crossovers between the shows, it was only implied.

  • sid haig is the man. stop hating douchebag.

  • you are a lump of crap

  • Sorry, but I hated this show. I enjoyed Space Academy a lot more.

  • This is like the "velvetta" of cheesy effects! I didn't know there was ever a show that could make the old Doctor Who look good. LOL! This show even make Lost in Space effects look good!!!

  • I loved this show so much when I was 11. It was a spinoff of Space Academy. I'm a big Filmation fan, Lou and Norm, thanks for engaging my imagination!

  • I have see it in early 1980's via tv1 Malaysia, hoping to see more high res this siries vid

  • I cant believe Sid Haig starred in this.

  • thanks for posting this i had forgotten about thi s show untill know woow memories of childhood shows we loved

  • Wait, Tamara Dobson was on this show. Cleopatra Jones herself. Damn she was fine. She passed recently.

  • Sid Haig! omg

  • The announcer for this and so many other Filmation programs was Lou Scheimer, one of the exec. producers. He's on the commentary for The Kid Super Power Hour.

  • Actually, that was Lou's partner, Norm Prescott (1927-2005), who did some voice acting and narrating (well mostly the bumper spots)here and there on various Filmation shows such as Shazam!, Isis, Ark II and Hero High.

  • Totally cheesy show. It sucked. Space Invaders quality special effects.

  • oh, yeah, and that announcer's voice, in some way or another, is in ALL of them! WHO IS THAT GUY?

  • and re: filmation, don't forget: space academy, tarzan lord of the jungle, the new adventures of batman and robin, shazam the adventures of captain marvel, isis, etc. I love the action of all their shows, mixed with the dramatic music and the campiness of the serious-yet-cheesy acting (excluding the toons, of course)!

    FILMATION RULES!

  • They sure rivaled Hanna-Barbera in many things, no doubt.

  • this was my $#!+! DRAGOS!

  • Long live the 70's!!! We had SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK

ZOOM-SPECTER MAN-BOO BERRY CEREAL-SHAZAM!-the pink pill we had to chew in school to see where we did not floss :) I had my KUNG FU lunch box

and SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN was on Sunday nights!

Well gotta go I have to wait in line for a movie and the wait is 6 hrs long...Oh! the movie... "JAWS"

  • yes oh yes the memories i recall all of this

  • The Commander=still looks like Freddie Mercury.

  • Fucking Filmation. They all but owned my TV watching childhood. He-Man, Jason of Star Command, Kid Super Power Hour, Star Trek cartoon, even Giligans Planet (I admit, I watched it!), the list could go on! What memories. I wish I could go back just one day.

  • Try Space Academy (1977-79).

  • Oh, I need a Paxil, maybe TWO.

    (%^~

  • Ha! It looks like the Galaxy Quest opening sequence! I used to love JSC, as well as S

    Space Academy!

  • This show made me hurl.Parsifoot was gay.

  • The Commander=Freddie Mercury?

  • now that was funny as hell.

  • Oh my G-d. That's Cleopatra Jones! I forgot she was in this show.

  • How did you record this, by pointing a quick cam at a tv screen?

  • they dont make Saturday morning stuff like this anymore. this and good sugar coated cereals are long gone now.

  • Dude, you just took me back 500 Saturdays....

    Thanks =)

  • I don't remember Wiki, but I'm certain you're correct, my friend! It's just been so long since I've seen anything related to "Jason of Star Command"! Wow! Thank you!

  • NO worries mate. If you want to see Wiki you can google Jason of Star command, and then choose images. He's the 11th image in.

He was pretty much a useless robot. I dont really remember him dong much lol.

  • He likes Herbie the robot on the lame ass in the Fantastic Four cartoon. Didnt do jack for the cartoon lik Wiki didnt do jack for Jason of Star Command.

  • I think he was an excuse to sell a toy.

  • They had a toy for either show?

  • Come visit the real Star Command! Click on this user, and visit the International Space Agency (ISA) youtube site, and watch the International Space Academy Introduction. Ad-Astra! To The Stars! In Peace For All Mankind!

  • Wow, I remember this so well. Havent seen any of it in about 20 years and I didnt realize it was so low budget.

Heard of Wikipedia? I always thought they got their name from the little robot, whos name is wiki. Well, I always though of it anyway lol.

  • Hold on a sec! You are confusing this show with "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century". The Little robot in that show was named "Twiki"! "Bidibidibidi!"

  • If you're referring to me (Hard to tell with Youtubes horrible comment system) Then I was correct. Wiki was a small robot on Jason of Star Command. If you look it up you'll find a square robot.

But Twiki was much better as far as a buddy robot!

Bididididi back at ya, or if your a girl...

bootybooty... (Kudos if you get that one =)

  • Low quality show. I was 7, LOVED any sci-fi but this show bored me to death.

  • Sid looks great.

  • the alien guy looks like the doctor of the latest star trek series

  • what da?

  • wow! iv'e been looknig for this for years! isn't the bad guys ship covered in ....moss? I distinctly remember a r2-d2esq. robot

  • This show is coming out on DVD this spring.

  • To answer dialwon, the other Filmation space show on CBS was Space Academy, with Jonathan Harris. Watching this intro, I noticed that Jason was dressed almost exactly like Han Solo from two years previous. The big difference--no gun on his hip. I guess that would not have been good for a Saturday morning show to have the hero blast everything & everyone in sight.

  • Well, while he had no pistols. Those handy wristbands were equipped with lasers that could tear you a new asshole! Ha Ha!

  • I used to watch this, did not know Sid Haig was on it but then Sid Haig has been in a lot of B-films and shows since the 1960's. I think he's great in Spider Baby, and his part in THX-1138 is very brief.

  • I feel bad for the kids today. Saturday mornings are almost non-existant and what is on is crap. Ben 10? Winx? CBS doesn't have anything on but news until 9am. Then what Madeline. *shakes head*

  • Yep Saturday Mornings Has Gone To The Toilet. It's Sad Really.

  • yes, I used to watch this show, every saturday morning. cheesy, but still great.

  • Are you kidding me? This show was also very expensive to make by 1970s standards (total cost was $5.6 millon). Besides that, it was the only one with an actual final episode in which Dragos (played by Sid Haig) was finally defeated.

  • You have to go to cable/satellite, or even computers(YouTube) for any decent Sat-Morning quality, if you can get it.

Damn! Give me my childhood back!

  • I used to watch that show.

Whooaaa, I still can't believe that was THE Sid Haig who was in Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects".

Then again, that was nearly 30 years ago.

He was a young guy back then.

Yes, the little droid was really W1K1 aka "Wiki".

I don't know about those creatures on Dragos's ship.

Looked like a bunch of people with "guilley suits" on.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting this clip. Wish I could get a copy of the entire show(s).

  • My GOD!!! I AM SOOOOO OLD!!!!

  • Weren't there big deep red slimey people on Dragos' spaceship? Can someone confirm this please. And the little robot was Wicki.

  • That was my favorite show back in 3rd and 4th grade

  • Sorry I have not posted any clips in a while but I have been really really busy not to mention I was ratted out by someone to the YouTube staff for posting the opening segment of THE TOMORROW PEOPLE. They told me it was copyright infringement and if I did it again my account would be deleted and I could be prosecuted.

Oh well. LOL! I think I may be safe posting more FILMATION stuff in the future since the whole catalog is public domain. I appreciate all of the comments.

  • HEY!!! where is the little robot PEEPOS

  • James Doohan was on the second season of Space Academy, the show that Jason spun off from.

Star Command is also located in the Space Academy complex.

Bet Jason used to make it with all those co-ed chicks at the Academy - still wish I could find a pic of those girls when, in season 2, they started wearing those miniskirt uniforms to bolster the ratings...

  • Correction, jpowell. James Doohan was on the first season of JOSC as it was a segment on another Filmation show called Tarzan (later Batman) and The Super 7 during the 1978-79 season. John Russell replaced him in season two as Commander Stone (you know, the alien with a blue face).

  • DUDE THIS RULES!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm about to cream my pants!!!! I used to love this show when I was a kid, but when I tell friends about it, they think I'm on crack!!!

  • Wasn't James Doohan (Scotty from Star Trek ) on the show as well?

  • Yes, but only in Season One as Commander Carnavin. He also reprised his role as Scotty on the animated version of Star Trek (which earned Filmation it's only Daytime Emmy in 1974) when it aired on NBC from 1973-75 (the second season were all repeat episodes).

  • Remember that episode where Dragos was kidnapping all the chubby female Space Academy cadets, and when Jason had rescued them and flew off into space, he asked Dragos over the video-com why he wanted only fat girls, and Dragos replied, "The bigger the cusion, the sweeter the pushin'!".

And then there was the time when Dragos and his daughter wanted some Tutti Frutti ice cream, but his serial-killer stepson didn't want to stop and land on a planet, etc...

  • Back when kids got Cleopatra Jones AND Captain Spaulding in one show every week.

  • Thank you thank you thank you! Been looking everywhere for this!
