There are some problems with how things are being administered there by the Chinese but independence is not the answer. Nope, it was not. No country, except for Great Britain (tried to colonize it) ever recognized Tibet as an independent state, but they did afterward. They broke off by declaring themselves "de facto" independent, but it was never recognized. Even Mongolia had to fight a war of independence with the Soviets' help to get their independence (they got it).

i've actually been an avid human rights activist for years, especially on the issue in darfur. myself being a chinese living in the bay area, i support the olympic boycott. although i admit i don't know much about the situation in tibet, i feel that boycotting the chinese olympics will put more pressure on the government to stop their support of human rights violations in other countries, such as darfur and burma.

A few corrections: China did participated in the 1956, 1960, 1964, 1968, and 1972 Summer Olympic Games, they entered as "China", however they were sent by the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of China which was recognised by the IOC (code:ROC). Although the People's Republic of China on the mainland had already founded the "Chinese Olympic Committee" (code:CHN), they were not recognised by the IOC and therefore could not participate in the games at all.

There are some problems with how things are being administered there by the Chinese but independence is not the answer. Nope, it was not. No country, except for Great Britain (tried to colonize it) ever recognized Tibet as an independent state, but they did afterward. They broke off by declaring themselves "de facto" independent, but it was never recognized. Even Mongolia had to fight a war of independence with the Soviets' help to get their independence (they got it).
P.S: The CCP isn't my government and nobody hates it as much as I do. However, their claim on Tibet is legal.

i've actually been an avid human rights activist for years, especially on the issue in darfur. myself being a chinese living in the bay area, i support the olympic boycott. although i admit i don't know much about the situation in tibet, i feel that boycotting the chinese olympics will put more pressure on the government to stop their support of human rights violations in other countries, such as darfur and burma.
people are so quick to judge me, just because i'm chinese. >_>

about darfur: China cannot sanction Sudan for the same reason why America cannot sanction China on so called "human rights" issue. China needs Sudan oil to run its economy as much as the US needs China as a trading partner.

the oil from darfur consists of 4% of the oil used in china.
darfur, on the other hand, sells 74% of their oil to china. you can tell from this fact that darfur needs china a whole lot more than china needs darfur.
i'm not saying that they should stop trading with sudan FOREVER. i'm saying that they should TEMPORARILY cease oil and weapon trade with sudan until the genocide stops.

i'm not saying the US is right. i'm not denying that the US is also buying oil from other countries. nor am i suggesting that if china stops buying the sudanese oil, the genocide will stop. nobody knows what the effect of china's blockage of sudan oil will do. but it will obviously have SOME effect. remember, china is a permanent member of the united nations, and they are one of the most powerful nations in the world.
