  • Good job it's dry or you would need a "Retro" International 674 with a chain to move it off the grass...............LOL

  • The L11 in that National is one of the most heavenly sounds in the world to a Gear-head 1:00 & 3:40:-) the L11 & TL11 engines were primarily the Tiger engine but also fitted to the later mk2 Nationals:-) The Bristol VR, best double decker ever built, put one along side any other double decker to see how better looking the VR is & its the same with the National:-) Anyone who disagrees is frankly blind or looking at a something else!

  • The Bristol VR at 3:00 sounds as if it has a Leyland 510 engine. I can tell from that unmistakable clatter.

  • Yes it was, i filmed a few video's on borad too.

  • It has a Leyland L11 in it.

  • Wahey!

    Digging the SYPTE National!

  • I love the Leyland Nationals (especially the MK1) & the Bristol VR's, 2 great examples of them here, definitely two of the greatest machines ever built, they remind me of being a kid again back when life was simple:-( Both sound fantastic, The MK2 National in the video (FWA475V) sounds like it has a Daf engine or possibly Volvo, can anyone confirm, just out of curiosity???

  • I think it is a Leyland TL11 engine.

  • Its a Leyland L11. Basically a non turbo version of the TL11

  • Yes I went on FDV829V today and the driver was saying that it had a Leyland L11 non turbo charged engine in that too. Saw you lot driving off the field.

  • FDV829V sounds like a 0.680 to me. The way to tell is if u look underneath, a 0.680 or 0.690 will have a rounded oil sump and a L11 a square one

  • The sumps are the same on 0.680s,L11s and TL11S. The only difference is that there is some extra bracing iside the engine blocks of L11/TL11s

  • great vid and nice buses.

what kind of camera do you use? It's got great quality.

  • Thanks, this was a JVC mini DV camcorder.

  • all 3 are owned by 2 lads hence why all 3 were there and are kept in st helens

  • Hoping to ride on one of those buses when I go down to Llangollen over the next few days. Nice as well to see a Halton Transport bus on it's Welsh jaunts...

    5*

  • Thanks, the steam Gala was good, I went in the autocoach, but my battery had worn down and it was too busy to get a good film, got some really decent photos of the steam. The buses are quality too, I had not been on RMA435V before.

  • I remember riding the RMA435V bus down to Llangollen from Ruabon in 2007, and getting the Leyland National back (it was a different one though). Single decker Leyland Nationals were still in exisitence in my hometown of St Helens, until I left school nine years ago.

    Thanks!

  • No its the same National, it was blue and cream until a couple of months ago.

  • Aah, I see. Glad to see that it's just the colour that's changed then!

Still, when I rode that back to Ruabon, it felt like one of my various journeys home from school all over again. Too bad the single decker Leyland Nationals were phased out in St Helens, in (circa) 2000.

  • Yes I would like to have filmed them then, I did do a bit of filming on National MK1's in Shrewsbury in 2998, but lost the tapes or taped over them. Made up for it now though.

  • you mean 1998 :)

I moved out of Shrewsbury inbetween when they got rid of the Leyland Nationals and when they introduced the crappy excuses for buses which are known as Optare Solos.

  • Oh yes I do mean 1998, I haven't got any flying floating service buses on film yet from 2998 haha!

  • LOL.
