Taiwanese IS Chinese from Hokkienese descent looool *Chanh kai shih brought the Chinese to Taiwan* . My dad is Hokkienese but born in Malaysia *like your parents born in Taiwan*.
I'm glad you have a lot of Hapa firends! Good on you! I'm glad you are a full Asian that thought about us so logically :)
@lililylo Whoa, I never knew that! My parents don't tell me about stuff like this. Oh, and you know what? Most of the hapa friends I have I actually didn't realize they were hapa until much later, so it's not like I make hapa friends on purpose. I think I just connect with them better xD
Yeah, a lot of Taiwanese dont really know, since the first generation communicate using Hokciu/Hokkien dialect, so most assume they are seperate race lol.
My dad is really picky about these things looooool
@lililylo But wouldn't it be kinda confusing though if a person identified himself/herself as chinese even though the parents and grandparents were born and raised in taiwan? If I tell people I am chinese then they will assume all my direct ancestors were born and raised in china, which is not true at all. Plus, china and taiwan are so different in culture, dialect, and lifestyle. Maybe it's just me haha xD
@icysparks2007 I believe Taiwans founders had the right to make it a country whether mainlanders agree or not, but Taiwanese are 100% Chnese descent from the Fujian, thats why your grandparent probably speak Hokkien or Hockiew/Hokciang. I met a Taiwan guy last year *he is raised in Taiwan* We both agree Taiwanese are Chinese, except they are more free to practice Chinese, Hokkien culture, wheras in China the traditional culture was restricted (by communist party) thats the major difference :)
I'm Vietnamese and white and have always considered my self as being just Asian- although most of my friends and people I am around are white. To whites I am the asian guy, to full asians I am the mixed asian guy so it has been a little hard growing up fitting in. I now am embracing both sides and mark both races when applying for jobs-I used to just check Asian/pacific Islander.I really appreciate your video. You seem like a great guy. Good luck to you in all you do.
@elitestar Some don't. My first roommate was hapa and pretty much denied his asian side. I know hapas who purposely avoid asians to fit in better with the non-asian community. You are seeing a lot of hapas here who identify with asian culture because there is an emphasis on the part-asian side here. But in reality, this is not always the case.
You sir, are amazing, sir~ I don't have anything constructive to say; just that I admire your viewpoints very much. And speaking as a hapa, I absolutely love the support you have for the hapa community and interracial relationships as a whole.
I only have one thing to say, people from taiwan are chinese. LOl. kay. but thanks this was informative.
