  • Wow! Would you look at the fingers on this guitarist! Unbelievable! He could play two guitars at once with the same hand.

  • Thanks Very nice!

  • the famous riff was played perfect congratulations

  • the right pinky dances the entire time lolol

  • Your video is very helpful for me. I'm studing this "etude". ;-)

  • Absolutely Beautiful

  • wow... that motherf***k*n* pinky finger...

it will take me months to learn this heeh

  • a real inspiration my friend !!!!!

  • Omg I'm learning this song and my teacher got that song on the book he lend me to photo copy that whole book I'm happy but it's hard it's so fast I need to practice more :(

  • nice :) funny thing..i'm in front of the computer practicing the same piece with what looks like the exact same guitar :o

  • amazing

  • who cares about whether the right hand is 'correct' or not. Hands down he does an amazing job. Technique is to help produce the best possible music, too many guitarist often make the mistake of worshipping technique at the cost of emotional depth....

  • Not bad. But your right hand isn't correctly at all. But you're not bad.

  • lol to 1:20 till 1:26 why u dicrease ur speed?this is the hardest part of the studio cos you have to do it at same speed all the time :P or maybe i am wrong and u just wanted to make ur our performance :P

  • i really like your interpretation of the ending two chords. sounds beautiful. i hope to play it as fast as you with such ease someday.

  • Brezilya selamlar. böylece Devam Ediyor!

  • awesome man i just played this one. i'm sure youve gotten even more awesome since 2006 when you posted this but the one thing i noticed that i was always harped on by my teacher was the pinky in the right hand tensing up

  • I go to music school and now i playing this etude for exam ,but i playing it some slower ;D ..Nice !

  • what was that look on your face at 1:27-1:28 ? Hehehe,

played it really great, my guitar teachter said it was to difficult for me... but I have the fingermove slowly under controle

  • Bravo! Wonderful playing.

  • caraca seu pangare mais tu é feio d+!!!!!!

tocas ate bem mais tu parece o cao chupando limao

olha o tamanho da sua cabeça.

  • his face expression at 2:02....priceles$!!!!

  • Sounds great! You seem to know it really well!!

Just a suggestion, try and bring out the 3rd beat more.... i.e. the 'B' note in the 1st bar etc I can't hear it, I can only hear the E notes either side of it. It's quite hard to get an evenness throughout the arpeggios...Also watch your right hand pinky finger, it seems to be moving about a lot...

Quite an achievement to play all of those etudes!! Well done!!

  • Sweet, currently working on this myself. the E with the G# in the bass is killing me and my short pinkey -_- but this souds awesome!

  • Sweet, working on this piece atm. and was looking for how it actualy sounded - Sounds spot on!

  • PRO

  • Perfect tempo. Perfect performance. Not 'too' fast' fast either. Besides, this is the Segovia edtion anyway...

  • What is interesting about this piece is that you can get different melodies and different rhythms depending on which notes you emphasize, from a simple arpeggio to a complex sequence.

I like this version. Maybe it is too fast, but it is intensely rhythmical.

  • I'm not a guitarist (low brass are my thing), but wondered: how difficult are these etudes, in terms of the guitar repertoire? Some of them sound diabolical -- but as is the case with trombone repertoire, what sounds difficult isn't always. How do the V-L etudes compare with other standard guitar rep?

  • @Urbie4 BRUTAL

  • These V-L are more fascinating than his preludes. Technique, accuracy and concentration are musts. The studies are a love affair with the instrument that each player will interpret individually. The studies can be strangely alluring to the casual listener too . Difficult? Segovia says that the music is not pedantic. Strangly it isn't, but the player is left searching for the guitar's ephemeral spirit which he knows to be there. Not for the faint hearted then.

  • screw all you guys this is a good tempo.

  • excellent performance!!!!!!!!!!!bravooooooo

  • this is way faster then the composer wanted it to be played :s

  • Well not really sure about that, this piece would sound really strange if you slow it down remarkably. Have you tried that?

  • don't slow it down remarkably, just abit, if you would see the original transcription it says 'allegro non troppo' wich means, fast but not too fast :)

  • Fabulous playing, in my favourites, I might have a go at this one myself

  • Great! I love the face at 1:26 =)

All 12 Etudes! That is just crazy.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Hahah! 1:26 made me laugh too, well noticed.

  • Teşekkürler.

  • you're my idol =@

  • Muito bom!

    parabens pelo rítmo!

  • I remember having to play this for the ASTA competition way back when i was a teenager! This is not an easy piece, and the faster you played it the better you had of getting to the second round...

  • damn dude i don't know how you keep up with your thumb like that but it's your style. Great performance!

  • Wow

What fabulous right hand technique. Have you learnt the 'planting' ttechnique?

    Janie

  • look at 90 degree thumb :O

  • very good!

  • clear and good

    nice end too

  • really awesome!! nice tone and stuff. the only thing is you might try to keep the fingers of your right hand together more, your pinkie's kind of sticking out sometimes :D

  • the pinkie doesn't matter as it is not used in this peice watsoeva...just to let u know

  • wow, just the correct word

  • caraca, muito talento!

  • you are pretty good but last part have to be practiced more

  • bellissimaaaa

  • wow!!!

    :D

  • very good...watch out your thumb....

  • Are you using polished basses, or do you lift up 1 and 3 (using 4 and 2 as guides) when moving from 8th position to 1st position during that diminished chord chromatic part? I ask because you're not making any squeaking noises, and I've been working on it myself.

  • These recordings are really very old i dont remember what ive done but i never forgot . guitar & mic strings room every thing were a players worst possibilties

  • wow!!!! marry meeeeeeeee!!!! lol

  • Lol :D

  • What is the picking pattern for this ?

  • I think it is

    pipipmiamaimpipi

  • Wow. A question here about 0:24. Do you just have to have an extremely flexible pinky? I can't reach the low G# in the 4th fret while simultaneously covering the B and the E with my middle and ring fingers (respectively).

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

  • Hi check carlevaros book 4 . second part is for flexion fingers.

    :)em

  • be really relax and have big hands :)

  • I have trouble with that too, but can reach it if I try to get my left hand position close to the position you're referring to while still in the previous arpeggio.

  • balance the pressure between both G# and keep your previous position with your cuff. Then your pinkie can press the middle of the fret and have a good quiet good sound.sorry if i can't speak very well becoz I'm only 15

  • @CullenBryant you should learn tears in the rain()joesatrianiu

  • @CullenBryant

hi it is a stretch but i found a way. for anyone who needs help here. look one chord before. Em with G (first inversion) use pinky on g (6 string), 3rd finger on b(5th string) and 2nd on e (4 string). then when you go to the 0:24 , the trouble chord E major(first inversion), spread your fingers. pinky on g# (6th string) 2nd and 3rd remain and index on g# on 3rd string. try that!

  • tu pulgar esta extremadamente tensionado.... relajalo y ponlo un poco mas recto

  • Que importa si suena bien?

  • I have to play this for an audition to get into college. Its hard for me, who's more metal oriented, so, props to you. Wish i could play like that....

  • You have to accentuate the 1,2,3,4.

    you accentuate the ands....

  • este es uno d los temas ke me hace sudar al tocarlo jiji!

  • I'm brazilian and i'm musician too..Great performance - I feel really proud- Amazing .

  • Great Job. A couple things though...first your right hand pinky. Second, I find that it is easier to play the first part of the "hard part" (around 1:23 in your video) on the 12th fret (instead of the written 7th). Play the b open, the g on the 3rd string (2nd finger), the e open, the b on the 2nd string (3rd finger), and the e on the first string (pinky)...then go into the slurs.

  • 1:27 best facial expression ever :D

great job man, i really can't play the 1:20-1:26 part that fast and smooth

  • Lol :D

  • Agree. Wonderful performance by the way.

  • you should use the open string to change your chord or position there's many way to play the chord or note and if you have to change positon you should use the open string (when you can)

  • Well done :-)

  • very elegant.

  • Please work on your right hand's little finger. It shouldn't be sticking out the way it is! That shows that your right hand is not 100 % relax and in control. Have no weaknesses.

Still that was a great job.

    Darius

  • pana quita la cara de pajuo

  • Very well done! I love this one, and it is one of my favorites from Heitor Villa Lobos' Etudes. -Derek

  • Your thumb!

still amazing and well done but i surprised with that

  • Brilliant ! I've singing at Univ. choir, Villa Lobos repertoire and found ashtoning this masterpiece from a guitar player from Turkey as he would be a Brazilian virtuoso. Thanks for sharing.

  • hey friend god

  • this etude(exercises)by villa lobos

has to be probably my fav

this song is not hard but requires

    alot of right handed technique

  • "this song is not hard" well it has indeed a notably hardest part, you can see also the face of Cem, and is between 1:22-1:27 in the video. A time ago I tried to imitate the Performance of Julian Bream.. he does not decrease the velocity at this part, but well.. withouth success.

  • simply fantastic !

  • that was crazy! amazing job

  • nice, u r cool

  • this study and you are great!!!!!!

  • man youre talking shit. Great job gemgunenc. The way you play this piece is truly inspiring and i find it to be one of the best on youtube. you put some kind of swing to it that i like

  • the way you extend your fourth finger of your right hand whenever you play the low E string with your thumb is a serious flaw

  • its not a flaw.. hes using the finger to do a G sharp base

  • allow me to clarify,

Mr. Gunenc's RIGHT HAND PINKY extends from it's natural curved position every time he moves his RH thumb to play the low E string. This unnecessary action creates tension in his right hand. Although Cem Gunenc's performance of this piece is quite good, this tendency in his right hand will have to be eventually overcome when he is faced with the technical challenges of other pieces.

It is common sense in the pursuit of solid technique that "a quiet hand is a good hand."

  • ricmolina is dead right. This performance of this piece is very good but that pinky jumping around like that is building tension in the right hand and also limiting motion of the other fingers. You have a great tone and speed and accuracy. Just get control of that pinky so you can develop even better!

  • you have tabs on this stuff???? or the music?

  • go to a music shop and asc the etudes of villa lobos

  • thanks !

  • OR u could search for "etude no 11 tabs" or whatever... you know? on this thing we call "google" ?? >.>

  • Excellent!

  • muito bem tocado

  • You give a little emphasis to the two notes on the E string of each bar. Don't know if it is intentional but it adds a brazilian flavour to the piece, a samba-like swing. I like it. Didn't see it in any other interpretation on Youtube.

  • check out raphael rabello's version

  • Ooh, toll. Dieses Stück muss ich gerade im Gitarrenunterricht lernen!

  • cem hocam ellerinize sağlık kristalize arpej için teşekkürler!

    ismek den sevgilerle...

  • lol I guess it's ok. I liked the beginning.

  • If I may make a comment? This composition is very much after Chopin's No. 1 of Opus 10.

  • I think you mean No 1 of Opus 25. The harp etude.

This stuff makes me wanna learn guitar, just don't know if I have the nails to do it as a pianist.

  • I like your tempo. Most guitarists try to play this study as fast as they can manage it-and often this sounds cramped. One can hear, you play with little effort. Bravo!

  • well done

  • That was excellent playing dude ... you definately have awesome coordination. Very beautiful Spanish guitar solo!!!

  • Very nice! It's very difficult to keep the tempo in this piece, but you do it very well. I can't see if you use the little finger on your right hand?

  • Your guitar has a nice sound

    I liked it too much

You've played this etude very well

    Congratulations =)

  • nice playing~~

    5*****

    from jesse

  • Hard work for the right hand

    I still can't play it =D

  • buda süper hepsi süper gitar kulübü çorum

  • Very good. You don't play the measures 22-23 correctly. Basically when the shifting pattern gets to position-0, it is played 4 times.

  • It's a different edition.

I play the same way as this guy.

  • It makes much more sence to play them twice. There are no other measures that are repeated 4 times.

  • very very nice.

  • Now you should play the 12 etudes by Francisco Mignone, another great brazilian composer. My favorite one is etude n. 6.

  • bravo çok iyi çalmışsınız, fingeringde kopya çekmek için bakıyorum bazen :p

  • A wonderful sound

  • Brilliant !

  • hi you are a great

  • very good!, nice tempo

  • Nice! 5 with no doubts.

  • your speed is amazing. i finally learned how to play this without mistakes at around 126bpm.

u must be at least 130+

how long have u been playing that piece to play it that good?

  • actually play in the tempo which 1 you like dont compare yourself with others if you like it adagio play adagio if you like presto play presto .There is no law or rule about the tempo .Play however you feel :)

  • There is indeed. The tempo marking for this piece is none other than "Allegro non troppo."

  • One plays well. One doesn't play "good."

  • Amazing, I will now attempt to learn this. Very difficult :(

  • Ellerine sağlık...

  • tebrikler gerçekten başarılı

  • Good woork. Your right hand pinky could use some work.

Use a rubber band on (a) finger and the pinky. Then run any scale with antonating pairs. (i.e, (i) and (a) or (m) and (a))

  • LMFAO I do that. It works. Jack those rubber bands from brocolli. LOL

  • Muito boa execução!

  • Dear CemGunenc. WOW! That's very, very good! And when I read you recorded all 12! at the same time, I bow for you and your achievment. Do you know all 12 by heart?

    Regards,

    Peo

  • Thx alot :) but i have lots things to learn.Bleave me there are many players better then me.I am only trying to do my best.

  • You're the best classical guitar player on youyube

  • You are the best classic player of guitar on youyube! It seems to me to be very exagerate, actually it is bad enough

  • Utter nonsense, as he well knows. See, e.g., Julian Bream, David Russell, Pepe Romero, John Williams, Ana Vidovic, and Andres Segovia for starters.

  • you play this much much better than i do. the only error i noticed wasnt even in the sound, but your pinky locks on some chords

  • WOW!!! Dude that is awesome. I tried playing and failed. VERy Good.

  • Very, very nice. Your speed and accuracy pay off in spades on this one. Keep it up!

  • all the twelve not eleven :P

  • wow! did you played all the eleven on one day or did you just dressed the same way every day?

  • Lindo! (Beautiful)

  • Saol demiralp.Deşifreleri yeni bitirdim dogrusuyla yanlisi ile kayda aldim parcalar bir kac ay demlensin tekrar ele alicam.Guzel bir mikrofon ve gitar bulabilirsem daha kaliteli olucak :)

  • Tebrikler Cem ,harika ! direk 5 puan veriyorum :)

  • What a wonderful speed.
