There is no doubt that all this is a terrible shockwave. Please remember that this is very much a product of a secular system, something that has produced huge peace movements in opposition to it.
Yet what disturbs so many of us is that in Islam it seems that violence, even genocide, is sanctified. Fair criticism is ignored. Thankfully, though, a peace movement seems to be emerging. Many have had enough. I do think to some extent, it will end in an exodus from Islam, or a massive reformation.

It is highly unlikely theres going to be an exodus from Islam as historically it never happened yet. But most Muslims would not agree with the "Ninja" masks or Niqabs. vast majority are of the Sufi persuasion(80% plus) who get on fine with other peoples or beliefs. So its a tiny minority who is concerning people in the west and Muslims too, who happen to originate be from their ally - Saudis.

Islam is the last 'organised religion' practicing wide-spread pressures to conform to religious and cultural norms. Christians nowadays, in the Est and amongst new converts at least, have chosen of their own free will to worship that way, without threats or force. Many of them have left more traditional forms of religiopn to do this. The Buddhist world is dominated by economic models, those who practise now do so from choice- which only leaves Islam to fall to the power of freedom.

Kazakhseven, Most Americans are not "planning" to do anything to Islamic people. Before 9/11 we didn't think about them that much at all.
Until the 70s we didn't even need the Middle-East to meet our requirements for oil -- we had our own supply. Hopefully, if enough of us can get our voices heard we will be able to develop alternative fuels which will once again make the Middle East just an interesting place on the map -- and not the source of liquid power and money as it is today.

Do you remember the Afghani man who left Islam and was then sentenced to death?
We found this deeply disturbing. But, what really surprised us the most was the CNN interviews with everyday people on the street -- all of whom agreed with the death sentence...students, workers, housewives all wanted him dead just because he no longer wanted to believe in Islam.
This was when I saw that there was something intrinsically wrong with Islam.

I understand your revulsion of paedophilia, but I think that you might consider that the vast majority of Muslims do not believe that this is acceptable behavior, and regardless of their prophet's actual deeds, do not believe that he engaged in paedophilia.
All religions find ways to smooth over unpalatable details from their history and holy books -- Christianity too.
It is this ability that often brings moral growth. Do not judge all Muslims by their Prophet - they are not the same.
