I noticed you look like you've switched to 2o2o on the AF with Zing in your most recent vid's. Can you tell me why the running AF didn't work for Zing or why you didn't like it?
There were several reasons. If Zing extended over the a-pex too much, he could hit the yellow without adding a second stride. I personally don't like that (it's hard on the dog and dangerous). I accidently caused too much extension by running him over a very low a-frame too long. At full height, Zing's back legs didn't hit the down ramp until the yellow. He puts his front left foot in the blue, right front foot in the yellow, and then pushes off with his rear in the yellow.
This style caused too many misses, and just wasn't what I was looking for. If you watch my sheltie, Q, he has nice foot work for a stride-regulator a-frame. Q just doesn't extend over the top. :) Since this video, I've learned a lot and I am pretty confident that I could fix Zing's running a-frame with time. However, when I quick released Zing's a-frame at the USDAA regional, it looked like a running a-frame.
Overall, I like the stopped a-frame with Zing. It prevents off courses, "misses", and it helps speed up my other contacts. (I've found with my boys that, if I run my frame and stop the others, my dog-walk will get "creepy".)
