what's the difference between the faded sg special and the sg special??

is it just the finish? because there are like $300 between them

@eam1239 To be honest, the finish is the only difference. Same pickups and hardware all the way around, same wood, etc.

@KamikaziPanda17 I think that it would sound nice, but I just don't think an AC30 is a great "distortion" amp. You should look into tube amps with 6L6 or EL34 Valves, which give a Mesa kind of sound. The AC 30 is kind of "vintage" clean. Never the less, you would get great clean and crunchy tones out of it. Maybe you should think of a Tiny Terror also... I don't know, its up to you.

i have this guitar, but i replacedd the pickups with emgs and got a gray pearloid pickguard as well as a bigsby to go on mine. it sounds sick but ever since i put the bigsby on it goes out of tune more...never did before the bigsby so im getting new tuners soon...any suggestions on good tuners???

@KingOfShadows1500 pups are strong but they sound very 'muddy' on this particular faded SG. Specially when playing clean. With gain it's a real beast :-)

I have this guitar. It's amazing. I changed string gauges on it from the Gibson factory standard 10-46, to my personal preference of 11-58, and the neck is doing just fine. It's a SWET guitar. Awesome action, pick-ups sound awesome, very versatile, very fast playing guitar. Only complaint is this thing WILL NOT stay in tune. I'm replacing the tuners soon.

I once saw a Gibson SG faded model, and the body was made of several wood parts, you could see that cuz its faded painting. That looks terrible.

You know more than me, I wanna know if the Gibson SG Special is made like that too.

@johntygesen I'd say the Gibson SG. It shall keep it's value, and you can expect it to have a better build quality than the Epiphone, but Epiphone is certainly not bad either. It kind of depends on you, which guitar plays better/sounds better for your music styles.

@PsychoKath293 well actually nevada music is somewhat wrong, the tuners on it are not very good for gibson tuners.  replace them with die cast grovers, the plsatic on these are cheap. but otherwise no i have this guitar in red, much better looking in red IMOP but the wood darkens over time

@PsychoKath293 they dont.... i have one and they stay in tune its anazing. i changed the pickups to a dirty fingers in the neck and a 500T in the bridge and tophat knobs with metal inserts and a new truss rod cover

The strings get caught in the nut. If you apply some Graphitall (GHS), it will stay in tune just fine. The stock tuners are great - leave `em in.

Hehe, I have the same setup; a Gibson SG Special Faded Worn Brown and a Marshall MG100DFX (The older generation) I was really lucky getting both of them. I got them at completely different occasions and stores, but both were the last ones they had, so I got them at kickass prices! :) Love 'em both~

I was thinking the same thing. I've owned nitro finished Gibson guitars and recently picked up a worn brown. The neck feels amazing and the guitar seems to resonate more due to the lack of thick glossy nitro.

I have one of these and it is my main guitar I love it I did change the tuning machines to locking ones though because I change my strings when they need it and I don't like the Gibson tuners I also put string saver saddles on but the pups are original and I really like the different sounds you can get with the volume and tone for each pup.
