  • It's not Marines they are Army

  • Silence and respect at all times. These Marines have WORKING rifles and anyone attempting to deface the tomb would be met with deadly force. Read about it - it's true.

  • my father was a Sentinel for 4 years.

  • I bet their rifles are clean as hell. Id give anything to inspect one for myself to see how disciplined these gentlemen are when it comes to weapons maintenance.

  • to the ppl who disliked this...go fuck yourselves!!!

  • Respect to all fallen soldiers, R.I.P x

  • And what the hell does this have to do with Bob Dylan?

  • When Hurricane Isabel hit they told the ceremonial guards that they did not need to perform their duities the sentries guarding the Tomb of the Unknowns remained at their posts regardless. That's true honor and respect.

  • i saw this when i recently went 2 washington DC and it was awesome!!

  • Thier shoes are specially made so they make that nice clicking sound.

  • to eastside900 and anyone else who wants to know they do that because thats how they time evrything to be correct

  • I went to Washington, DC 1 week ago for a field trip...I stayed for a whole week (it was my 8th grade class field trip) and I actually witnessed this. It was Cool :D and i was on the 1st step taking pictures..... :D

  • yea me 2

  • wouldn't they have to know who he was before they know he is gay? If they find out who is buried there theyhave to remove the body

  • Not anymore. They made a memorial for the missing soldiers of the US. And dont say that. Those people served our country. That's a disgrace to our country, and criticism.

  • you retard dumbass. Maybe somone lost his dogtag/documents/ was so massacred that he could not be reckognized during WWII and any other operations?

  • @morderca95 the guy in the "monument" is from WWI

  • @craigisbond007 the 4 guys you mean

  • If you don't like the way America is you should really just leave. That's also a Freedom you have. If you want to stay, how about respecting for those that are working day and night to keep us safe.

  • why do they click their heels like that ?...it seems like a ritual or something...why does everyone need to know when their about to turn around....?

  • WOW ! How disrespectful to our dead veterans that died for our freedom !

I am appauled that someone could even make a comment like this. Our veterans deserve all the respect and honor we can give them ! They are the reason America is here and we have the freedoms we have ! Please go back and read your history book and look at all the suffering that was done for YOU and YOUR freedom.

  • you watch too much movies son

  • Your response to this is truly pathetic. As a relative to multiple veterans, I know that the men and women who rest in Arlington have made the greatest sacrifice they could ever hope to make for their country. And the fact alone that you would DARE to say they should build a mosque on a place like this is horrible, and quite frankly not needed. Just pathetic. Those people have more discipline and love for their country than you could EVER have, that much is obvious.

  • That lady nees to stop leaning on the han rail. Freakin nasty!

  • God bless all of those who serve....this is truly an awesome sight...I am Canadian and wish that we had this kind of dedication to our fallen!!!! Truly inspirational.

  • i loved this when i saw it on my 8th grade trip!!!! in May 09!!!!

  • Hey Pablors: Bring your boys and all their noise...any day...any time.

  • I had to honor to see this once before and i've wanted to go back to see it again. Its such an awesome expirence. God bless our armed forces.

  • Don't those guards get mad with the girl in the red shirt for flipping them off?

  • she's taking a cell phone picture eagle eyes..

  • ahahahaahaha after a long Monday, that was a great comment to read

  • It's tradition, a high respect to those that have fallen... it hasn't changed... it will never change...

damn right it's not a show, show a little more respect

  • @invisibledecoy I wonder if people will still be able to attend this boring show in a thousand years.

  • @inesis What is wrong with you?

  • "Is it really required that you have to speak like a robot? I mean enough with the show. "

It's meant as a measure of respect.

    God bless.

    RB

  • what a stupid comment

  • WOW. You're an idiot. You really are...

  • I was there about 3 weeks ago. It was soo hot there. It is amazing that these people can be in those uniforms for hours through the blazing hot heat. And I am from Los Angeles and if im saying that it was hot, that means its hot.

  • The uniforms are made of wool, which obviously adds to the effects of the heat. Luckily they change the guard every 30 mins during the summer.

  • i was there on a school d.c trip no talking aloud one of my friends got yelled at by one of the soldiers and bout shit his pants lol

  • yes im sure he almost shat his pants, but that is sad that it wasn't a successful experience for him

  • I am a daughter of an Army Retired Officer and growing up while my father was active duty I was proud to be a US citizen. Now, my youngest brother is in Air Force. This fact gives me more pride to say that both my Father and Brother have and is keeping this country amazing. My brother will be heading to Iraq in May, and pray everyday nothing comes in his way. God Bless all men and women of the Armed Services!

  • I saw this yesterday it was amazing

  • i think this is just the coolest thing ever. sad, yes, that they were never able to identify these fallen heroes, but what a way to honor them! i hope i get the chance to witness this myself someday

  • it's sad isn't it? :(

  • hahahahahaha!!!

  • thank you veterans one and all, we honor you today; 11-11 and every day

  • Uncle - USN WWII; Father - US Army Korean War; Step-Father - USAF Cold War; Father-in-Law - US Navy WWII; Brother-in-Law - US Navy Vietnam War; 2nd Brother-in-Law - US Navy Vietnam War; Nephew - US Army Iraq; me - US Navy Vietnan War. On behalf of them and myself... you are most welcome.

  • thank you veterans as for i to am joining the army and am bieng sworn in this march. i will serve and protect my country with all my heart energy and knowledge.

  • hey bfrye1990,as a former member of the Air Force and Army National Guard, you are quite welcome.I have had people thank me for serving our country even though I never saw combat action.

  • i thank your family

  • i remember seeing this in person. it is something to remember and honor.

  • Great Video!!!

"Live Well, It is the Geatest Revenge"

    Raymond Rodden III

    Tucson, Arizona

    Tucson, AZ

  • My brother was a tomb guard up until last year (He was in Charlie Company)...It is one of the proudest moments in our family...

Every one of these men is outstanding..

"Soldiers never die until they are forgotten, Tomb Guards never forget.."

  • @PinkyFloyd99 Wow you're so proud that you don't call him a Sentinel... which is what these people are...? Idiot.

  • yea, youre right, respecting the country and its veterans.....thats soooo gay. they should just toss their nameless badies into the river........wtf is wrong with you?

  • bro, i was being sarcastic, Im joinin up in a year. just saying you shouldnt disrespect soldiers like that, man

  • wow!

  • I can only imagine the pride that runs through you when protecting the the tomb of the unkown soldier.

  • YES we do.

  • awesome. very moving.

  • Great job! This guy in charge isn't even an NCO yet and he did it perfectly, a result of great dedication to learning the art of this ceremony. Tell me how can any American watch this and not be moved almost to tears? I served in the Army for 15 years and I always well up when I see this stuff.

  • this ceremony is amazing i was there thursday i think, you can see the pentagon and the guard kept walking as the plane hit on 9/11

  • This ceremony is one of the greatest things I have ever witnessed. We just took a field trip to D.C. today, it was amazing.

  • i was there in early april and it was very powerful

  • These fine men and women show every day what dedication to your country is.Without a doubt the US.Military are the best trained and the most professional military in the world. They are the very reason that you and I live in a free country. This ceremony is very powerful just watching it on video.I am sure it is 100 times more powerful to be there in person.

  • You are correct...anyone visiting DC should definitely fit this in...go see the Changing of the Guard

  • i went there with my school a few days ago and i was able to lay a reath and the tomb its an expiriance i shall never forget!

    (sorry about bad grammer)

  • i went with my school a couple days ago i didnt get to lay a wreath but i got to see someone lay a wreath

  • nice video i remember that. i was there 3 days ago!!! it was sweet

  • lol so was i

  • I wish people could stand still and stop playing with electronic gadgets. Show some reverence! This is not Disney World!

  • awesome to see it, took my boys last year so they can see all those who gave up their lives so we can live free

  • You really have to admire these guys. They are there no matter what, extreme heat in the summer or crazy cold in winter. Same attire no matter what.

  • hurricane katrina didnt stop them.

  • Good one encarnad.. LMAO!!

  • hey fuck ass, how bout i beat the shit outta you till you get hemorroids. its called D&C for a reason, never say some dumb shit like that again.

  • To ensure my freedom. to guard my homeland and make me proud to be a citizen of the greatest country on earth. Or better yet why don't you go right on down to Washinton and ask him why he walks like he does. You are garbage.

  • This is a ceremonial event - he can't rightly 'stroll' or 'march' from one end to the other. Every movement has to be deliberately calculated. The USMC Silent Drill Platoon has a similar walk.

  • ok at the very end i heard 3 clicks did anyone else? and i thought at the very end they were suppose to march 3 abreast even? or am i wrong on that?

  • three clicks like three shots in a 21 gun salute, there are all ways seven rifles

  • 21 steps, 24/7. Hurrican Isabelle 2003.

  • The guard would not they are a uniformed MP detail on the tomb at all times as well who would escort you off the tomb or take other actions as needed.

  • if you went up to look at the tomb what would they do? would they shoot?

  • where is the tomb? and who put me -3...it was just a question i needed to know...

  • Its at Arlington National Cemetary in Arlington Virgina, just outside of Washinton DC.

  • Do they let women perform this duty, or is it an all male thing?

  • There has been 3 female sentinels I believe.

  • So do they actually stand guard infront of the tomb then? I would have figured that since the guys that guard it are in an infantry unit it would have been all male.

  • Cassidy, they do 7/24. During Hurrican Isabel a few years ago, they were told they could go off duty. To a man, they stayed on post.

  • I don't mean to sound stupid, but why do they all wear sunglasses?

  • because of the glare off the marble that surrounds them

  • Thanks, I can see why now.

  • He is unknown hence the name "tomb of the unknown soldier"

  • there is one unknown from every US war since WW I

  • humpben I emailed you his name. I hope you know him.

  • Actually, jgprap. Sorry to burst your bubble. However the person coming off is me, Spc Humphries. The person coming on is Spc. Schrodetzki. And the person changing the guard is Sgt. Oliva (was a specialist in this clip). Who was your son. I might have known him. Or more over who was/ is his trainer. Anyways just wanted to clear that up.

  • thanks for letting me know. I proud of all of you!!!!! I know how hard the job is

  • Thank you for serving.

  • what do they do if some little brat kid ducks under the rail and runs toward the tomb? With all the visitors I'm sure it's happened before, but always wondered what the guards orders are for something like that.

  • my son is in this video, he has been a gua

rd for about a year....very hard 24 on 24 off

  • which one is he?

  • they all look the same, but I know his walk!! so I believe he's the one going off. When we go we are aloud to go across from the visitors in the press area, we have also taken the tour BELOW the tomb in the catacombs

This all depends when you went to Arlington because now he's a sargeant and he now inspects the new guard coming on duty. Check out the CNN clip this past 11/11 they intervewed my son

  • What does everyone have a tomb of an unknown soldier, because apparently we do too. ;)

  • I don't know where you are from, but in any war, there are alot of remains that stay unidenitfied or soldiers whose fate remains unknown. These are to honor those service people.

  • beautiful

  • the guards who devote thier lives to this are tremendous human beings! they spend 5 hrs. each day preparing thier uniform for this simple, yet honorable task. hoora!

  • There is the GREATEST AWE even in the manner that respect is GIVEN tp ALL who have died in combat

  • Allow my unknown brothers to rest in peace. These guys who are on this honor guard are truly the best of the honor guard teams. They do their duty on sacred ground, rain, shine, snow, with no complaint. God bless them.

  • how what would they do to that preson?

  • I admire the fact that they remained at their post even during the last huricane that passed through DC. It it a proud tradition and post of US history.

  • no i think the russians learn how to march from the Ministry of Silly Walks

  • "that voice"...yes they speak in a disciplined military manner.

  • Americans who hate America should move to another country and see why so many people want to come to america, becuase there are so many countries out there where you don't have half the things the U.S. and it's goverment provide

If anyone tried to destroy the tomb they would probly be shot, and if not tackled by the crowds of people that are there every day

these guys are the peak of american military disipline, stregnth, and we should all respect them. God bless

  • i was there like 3 days ago and some baby started to cry

  • IS he putting on that voice? I hope so.

  • if they are guarding it, then what if someone were to take a hammer and smash the shit out of the tomb. would the soldier take action? i mean he is guarding it not just walking back and forth.

  • thats actually its now guarded 24/7. When it first opened people would have picnics and such on the tombs and some people would deface it. Then in the 30's the 24/7 guarding by the military was initiated and has gone on non stop since.

  • These are the things that make America great. Military tradition is a very important thing. It gives everyone something to be proud of that is uniquely American.

  • Well your army structure is a direct copy of the europeans but nvm, the rank are the same too. but nvm.

  • I think that might be a little obvious seeing as how we are a western civilization and use to be European colonies of england, france, spain, and of the dutch

  • as far as i can remember this country is not that old we had to get it from somewere

  • and you need to grow up

  • you are correct inthat the basics are european (british and frnch primarilly) however alot of what we do is Purely americanex tactics weapons and inovation

  • Respect and honor from Oklahoma. God Bless America

  • What does 63y10 86-90 mean?

  • MOS: 63Y 10-level from 1986-1990

  • If you have never known or loved a soldier, I doubt you will ever truly understand what these men are guarding. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

  • "Least we not forget"

    Respect from the UK

  • Notice, the soldiers are not in formation.

  • what? there are only two or three soldiers there the entire time, what kind of formation do you mean?

  • It's called a coat, dumbass.

  • It's something that makes you swell with pride to watch, I love the story about how they gave the guard the option to abandon the guard when that giant thunderstorm was approaching and they put it to a vote and to the man, within 30 seconds the guard flat refused to abandon the post. Amazing guys, they live this job.

  • About the sunglasses - if the guards did not have the sunglasses, the reflection of the sun on the marble surrounding the tomb and the amphitheater could cause long term eye damage!

  • This is cool--I saw it this summer.

  • I saw the Changing of the Guard ceremony when I was about ten. Damned if it doesn't leave an impression.

Then again, Arlington in general is the sort of place that leaves an impression.

  • I just saw this ceremony today.

and let me tell you, it is very intense.

  • Reading some of these comments has made me sick. Fellow Americans, regardless whether you are pro or anti-war, Noone has an excuse to disrespect the individuals doing their job so that we don't have to. I for one appreciate what they do regardless how I feel about the war they fight.

  • I have seen this once and it is a moving experiance

  • it's hot in VA. and D.C.

  • ugly sunglasses

  • actually they have identified only one soldier- the soldier from the Vietnam War. A few unknowns from other wars remain there.

  • they have actually identified the soldier in the tomb, but it still remains the tomb of the unknown soldier

  • yes there was a Vietnam War Air Force Pilot Identified in I believe 1998. But there still remains 2,a World War 1 Soldier and World War 2 Soldier. My guess is the World War 1 Soldier will probably never be Identified, and more than likely the same in the World War 2 Soldier's case. Meaning this Tomb will always have a guard, and will always have the utmost class and respect

  • I also forgot to mention their are remains from the Korean War as well

  • Truly the most moving and emotional event that I have ever had the privilege to attend. The precise movement, and if you pay attention they take 21 steps, then turn and take a 21 second pause. The entire process is very symbolic mirroring the 21 gun salute. I don't remember all of it, but it is quite amazing to say the least. God Bless America, and may God Bless The United States Armed Forces.

  • Sunglasses on parade is wrong.

  • Sunglasses in formation is wrong. Otherwise, as long as it is conservative in appearance, it's okay.

  • about the 3 year old challenged by the guard-maybe the parents should have kept control of the child, and I doubt the guard "pulled a knife". He brings his rifle, with a bayonet on it, to position of port arms- standard procedure.

  • to answer some of the rumors here- they can watch TV if they want, they can smoke, and if of legal age and not on duty, they can drink alcohol. source- my friend a former guard, states lots of false rumors out there
