  • Retired Chief here, I really enjoy you video, so much, that I subscribed :)

  • @fredhart Thanks Fred good to "meet" you... I still get on the salt but only small craft now VBG

  • What rank did u get up to?

  • @76794p E-7

  • I loved watching this. I served on the U.S.S. William V. Pratt (DDG-44) from early 1989 to its decommissioning just after Desert Storm. We didn't get to do "swim call," like the photos in this. That must've been a blast. I don't think the Navy allows sailors to do it anymore.

  • @drwinslow70 Yes the Navy like the Nation has changed drastically since my time at sea... Thanks for the shout...

  • @PappyStu

    You're welcome.

  • I was on the Belknap when it was 6th fleet flag ship.Great pics.Funny how eager to get away from it then. Now look back and wish I was there again. Thanks QM2.

  • @johnnyshark42 Time waits for no man or ship... We have our memories at best... Thanks for dropping by...

  • thank you for serving our country!

when i become old enough i will be joining either the USAF or the USN or the Army!

of course i would love to be a marine but i wouldnt be able to make the cut

  • @jdmordie95 Good luck to you whatever your choice...

  • thank you for serving our country!

  • defender of freedom? the tyrant government's freedom to use force against anyone that doesnt comply, obviously including the american people...keep praising these tools of slavery..defend your gun-toting master government, make those founding fathers proud

  • Great Video Pappystu, it looks like the guys did have some fun swimming in the nice blue water. I was trying to find a picture of you but I did't see one. The other thing is, what year was this? I think it would be scary being on a boat during the war and also on a plane because you are so visible. Brave men I say!

  • @justwant2bhappy The picture span a couple decades... Begining in the 60s up to the 80s... Long time past...

  • I also saw where you lost your youtube partnership!! Someone at youtube must have had their wires crossed or something. I love the Navy tried several times but no dice.

  • @Jedburgh6 No I have never been nor will ever be a partner... That vid was for kidblood...

When I was in the Nav it was the Nam era and few were turned away... Whole different scene back then VBG

  • I absolutely Love your videos Pappy!! Makes me feel as though I was in the Navy serving right there with you. The Navy is the best branch!!! I also enjoyed your Chief Joseph Gave Video.

  • @Jedburgh6 Thanks Jed... Glad you like them, Good to meet you...

  • I don't think there is any way I could get over being in the ocean so far no land was visible. I wasn't too fond of it when land was visible.

  • @Myk63 Life on Submarines was even more disconnected...

  • @PappyStu My sister-in-law's brother did that.

  • Great photos! Always cool to see how life is lived anywhere beyond my front door.

  • @BlueFlamingoVlogs Me too I'm always wandering off to see...

  • @OweMe1Cannoli I was quoting the eye witness account from a current sailor who participated in Valiant Shield... I would not have wanted to watch her go down... I see Connie is decommissioned and in Reserve Category X...

  • Great video Pappy and good tribute to the good ship Jouett. Enjoyed this.

  • @VideoRustle Hey buddy I see you have a new channel!

  • @OweMe1Cannoli Well Good to meet ya I do remember running point for the Connie if I remember her nick name correctly... I think there were three Task groups together in the Bearing Sea... Kitty Hawk and one other Flattop I can't recall which... We sure were annoying the Russkis... I saw Bears above us often when I managed to get on deck from the engineering spaces... Yea it seems like a lifetime ago....

  • Great stuff! My nephew is currently serving on the USS Louisiana, Ohio class missile sub, out of Bangor, WA.

  • @cim75 Roger that, I did three years on the original George Washington class boomers... USS Thomas Jefferson out of Guam...

  • My father was an AO2 on the USS Independence CV-62 from 1972-1976.He did a couple Mediterranean tours and saw all kinds of cool stuff. He says his only regret was being a dumbass 22 year old and not reenlisting or taking advantage of the educational opportunities the Navy had to offer.

  • @DILLIGAF333 Yea my perspective was narrow as a youngster then too... LOL it goes with the territory... I never served in the Atlantic...

  • My hubby retired from the Navy in '94 after 20 years! I will have to send him this video! Thanks for sharing Pappy! Thank you for your service!

  • @Jinxie228 Thanks Lass... Lots of water gone by since then VBG

  • @PappyStu He loved his years in the Navy-- I think he misses it somewhat, more the bonds he made while serving!

  • @billyCtv Thanks Billy...

  • Good memeories I guess

  • @MrRandomWritings Some good... Lots of time away from loved ones as well... Double edge sword...

  • Port of call; Hong Kong (?) Another great tribute and video!!!

  • @slyflight You got it Dan Hong Kong 30 years ago

  • That was fantastic, Pappy! Brought back some of my own memories at sea in the Coast Guard. I well know the emotional attachments that come with the ships we serve on. Ahem...You old salt... I know you were holding back the tears! ;)

  • @battlebauble Other than the Lex all the vessels I served aboard are gone... I am old LOL

  • Terrific video!! I always hate to see a great ship go down!!

  • @jtls8 Thirty years is a fair life for a war vessel... But old friends are always missed...

  • Fair Winds and Calm Seas Pappy Stu.

  • @12Daniel7 Aye and to you my good Friend

  • May she rest in peace ;0)

  • @AytanOrane At 4.6 miles down I suspect she does...

  • Hey Pappy, I see that you had a picture of sister ship USS Fox DLG/CG 33, that was one of the ships I was aboard for 3 years. The USS Jouett was the lucky one at least her haul is intact, not so for the USS Fox, shes been scraped. I was more fawn of my first(birth) ship USS Kitty Hawk CV-63. She has been decommissioned and in reserve until 2015, when the Gerald R. Ford is commissioned.

  • @phillipah7 Yea perhaps a bit more noble demise... Jouett took HARM,HARPOON,MAVERICK and GBU like they were mosquitoes.

A B2 dropped two laser guided 5000lb JDAMs on her starboard side. The explosion looked nuclear. Total screen whiteout, shockwave rolling across the water, mushroom cloud. When the smoke started to clear, she was heeled way over to port away from the blast.

  • @PappyStu She hung there on the precipice, considering whether to turn turtle or not. She didn't, she rolled back to even keel and settled in by the bow. She started to lean to stbd where the water was pouring in from the JDAM hits, when she finally lost the righting moment, she went over fast and sunk like a stone.

  • @phillipah7 I think we escorted the Kitty Hawk on one of two of my WESTPACs on Jouett... Perhaps off the Kamchaka Penisula in the Bearing Sea...

  • So interesting, thanks for posting. It would have been very amazing to be onboard i'm sure!

  • @ZMoulton Lots of memories for sure... thanks

  • @PappyStu Did you ever have a video camera with you at this time? It would be great to see more!

  • @ZMoulton I wish I had been more thoughtful in that regard... But unfortunately no....
