I loved watching this. I served on the U.S.S. William V. Pratt (DDG-44) from early 1989 to its decommissioning just after Desert Storm. We didn't get to do "swim call," like the photos in this. That must've been a blast. I don't think the Navy allows sailors to do it anymore.
I was on the Belknap when it was 6th fleet flag ship.Great pics.Funny how eager to get away from it then. Now look back and wish I was there again. Thanks QM2.

Great Video Pappystu, it looks like the guys did have some fun swimming in the nice blue water. I was trying to find a picture of you but I did't see one. The other thing is, what year was this? I think it would be scary being on a boat during the war and also on a plane because you are so visible. Brave men I say!
I also saw where you lost your youtube partnership!! Someone at youtube must have had their wires crossed or something. I love the Navy tried several times but no dice.
I absolutely Love your videos Pappy!! Makes me feel as though I was in the Navy serving right there with you. The Navy is the best branch!!! I also enjoyed your Chief Joseph Gave Video.
@OweMe1Cannoli I was quoting the eye witness account from a current sailor who participated in Valiant Shield... I would not have wanted to watch her go down... I see Connie is decommissioned and in Reserve Category X...
@OweMe1Cannoli Well Good to meet ya I do remember running point for the Connie if I remember her nick name correctly... I think there were three Task groups together in the Bearing Sea... Kitty Hawk and one other Flattop I can't recall which... We sure were annoying the Russkis... I saw Bears above us often when I managed to get on deck from the engineering spaces... Yea it seems like a lifetime ago....
My father was an AO2 on the USS Independence CV-62 from 1972-1976.He did a couple Mediterranean tours and saw all kinds of cool stuff. He says his only regret was being a dumbass 22 year old and not reenlisting or taking advantage of the educational opportunities the Navy had to offer.
That was fantastic, Pappy! Brought back some of my own memories at sea in the Coast Guard. I well know the emotional attachments that come with the ships we serve on. Ahem...You old salt... I know you were holding back the tears! ;)
Hey Pappy, I see that you had a picture of sister ship USS Fox DLG/CG 33, that was one of the ships I was aboard for 3 years. The USS Jouett was the lucky one at least her haul is intact, not so for the USS Fox, shes been scraped. I was more fawn of my first(birth) ship USS Kitty Hawk CV-63. She has been decommissioned and in reserve until 2015, when the Gerald R. Ford is commissioned.
@phillipah7 Yea perhaps a bit more noble demise... Jouett took HARM,HARPOON,MAVERICK and GBU like they were mosquitoes.
A B2 dropped two laser guided 5000lb JDAMs on her starboard side. The explosion looked nuclear. Total screen whiteout, shockwave rolling across the water, mushroom cloud. When the smoke started to clear, she was heeled way over to port away from the blast.
@PappyStu She hung there on the precipice, considering whether to turn turtle or not. She didn't, she rolled back to even keel and settled in by the bow. She started to lean to stbd where the water was pouring in from the JDAM hits, when she finally lost the righting moment, she went over fast and sunk like a stone.
Retired Chief here, I really enjoy you video, so much, that I subscribed :)

I don't think there is any way I could get over being in the ocean so far no land was visible. I wasn't too fond of it when land was visible.
