The McDonald's one is not stupid. McDonalds' puts those signs out so people that went through the drive-thru can momentarily stay there and get out their food and get situated before driving again so that drivers do not have to pull out their food on the road and create safety hazards. It is kind of hard to distribute food to all of your kids while at the Drive-Thru window so the sign plus parking spot is perfectly a smart decision on McDonald's part.
