best care for a banana plant(in a pot) is too leave it alone give it a lil water an some organic nutrients check out my video type in tropical man cave
@Alina674 Yep. It's a big controversy about using Miracle Grow for fruit and vegetable plants. Miracle Grow also makes an organic soil too. A good place to learn more about growing bananas is at bananas.org. It costs $5 per year to join, but is well worth it! It's a nice forum and we talk about bananas and all sorts of other plants too. I'm learning more about soil all the time and will post new videos as I learn! Thanks for the post! GAiL
@pondplantgirl Hi Gail! I'm a member of bananas.org too! :-)
My point was pretty general, not just for bananas: chemical fertilizers are bad for so many reasons, kind of like giving them plant heroin, & also it is so damaging to our body & ecosystem (MONSANTO!). I don't want to eat too many foods that have chemicals in them, on them, or around them, or if they were made from them. So, I grow as much of my food as I can.
Also, bananas just seem to thrive so well with manure from my chickens!
@pondplantgirl Haha, I know it sounds odd/funny, but chemical fertilizer is like heroin for the plants in that it gives them a fast high then a fast low (they get a "crash" from it like a drug). People that use it experience their plants growing big really fast when on chem. ferts. then they stop thriving suddenly (that's the low) THEN it leaves behind salt residues. It's something made in a lab, and this is just not the same as something that occurs naturally. There's just no substitute.
HI, I refuse to use miracle grow in my property because it is chemical based. So, I use organic fertilizers instead. I have quite a few of them, but just wondering which ones will be best to use for the banana plants so that I am giving them the right npk levels? please let me know what they need most. thanks
Good vid. I have been growing Musa basjoo outdoors since the late 1980's. Bananas are not really trees or palms, they are large Rhizotomous Herbs. The cold hardy varieties act like perennials in cold climates.
not yet, all the plants are in my room, but the rest are outside. as soon as the (gosh i hate to think about it) first frost comes, and i have o more room in my room to house the plants, i will build that fence. lol i got those fuzzy clovers! those are awsome:)) thankyou verrrrryyyyy much! i went out and built a whole new pond for them.(its still tiny, but cute:) i think i'll make a video tomorow on how to build a tiny pond:)
I'm enjoying my container ponds (smaller than the kiddie pool). And, I think I like them better! I am better able to control the plant growth and can make really nice plant arrangements. Looking forward to your "Tiny Pond" video. You're pretty good at getting those wheels turning in my head. :-) GAiL

@Alina674 Hmmm... bananas on heroin. And is that cured chicken manure or raw chicken manure?
