it was a good performance overall. there were more than a few notes that she lost control of though. 7/10. no one's going to out-perform mariah carey's version. her version is 10/10, it's the measuring stick for all.

@buloy99 really? Right now I'm addicted to listening to Mariah Carey's version, but other versions like Celine Dions offer something else. Also Whitney Houston's version is really excellent in a gospel kind of way. I don't think Mariah Carey's is the measuring stick by any means. One of the best of course, but not the only best.

I agree that her voice is good. I also found the song a bit irritating. But what I thought was bad was not that she wasn't original (and she wasn't), but that she took the jazz-it-up (hey look at me) route.

This is a beautiful traditional song and should be sang that way, or at least close to it.

Lol, just because you're a vocal coach (which I highly doubt, dry and shaky sound like amateurish terms) doesn't mean you are good or know what you are talking about. Almost everyone has their own theories on proper vocal technique, there isn't a clear "good" technique yet.

And Kelly is one of the few contemporary singers I know of today who can actually sing with emotion, she is regarded as a soulful and masterful interpreter and rightfully so.
