Beautiful playing, beautiful guitar :) And beautiful job on the song! I have a great fondness for this song...my parents loved it as well! Something about it...
Nice job. I really enjoyed it. I have always loved the songs of John Prine and there is none better than Sam Stone. Great topical songwriting in the tradition of Phil Ochs.
I use this song as proof that John Prine writes 10 times better than Dylan, and I like Dylan. Ichi, I love your work. You add your personality to the songs without compromising the writer's meaning. That's not an easy thing to do.
First time I heard it was in the early 70's at a bar in Chicago. By guess who?
Great rendition! He had my attention after that.

its a timeless song and captures the aftermath of those troubled times..

The part of this song that i don't get is the "Jesus Christ died for nothing I suppose", any help??

good question.. i think its a typical JP razor sharp cynicism of the futility of war against the backdrop of JCs symbolic self sacrifice ..
ichingiching 2 years ago
The only thing that matters is what you think it mean.
Personally, I have always felt it meant JC's death doesn't stop people from doing what they do, again again.
