  • I'd do the blonde but this video proves that not all blacks have natural rhythm.

  • hank hill brought me here, wow, what a good song!!...

  • Thanks Nick, San Diego, let's go!!!

  • OMG!!! Gone are the days when your wish for your 'big' birthday pressie was an Orange Spacehopper... Oooooh the best 13/06/??? day of my b'day memories... it was warm too : )))

  • Don't understand why this is a "rare" version. This is the ONLY version I have ever seen.

  • @DaveInCBR There is another video--much better sound--on You Tube. Just look for it.

  • i want to listen to this on shrooms WOW

  • Great song!

  • Skrillex resembles this guy. 1:10

  • Wow. Billy Corgan was cute with long hair.

  • i am from london, but this song is among the best of british music

  • wtc

  • AMAZING SONG!

  • I Canadian, i grew up on Vancouver Island (very much part Britain and part the rest of Canada culturally)... this song sooooo reminds me of my own childhood ; the winters ; the small town working class experience i grew up in on Vancouver Island

  • they still hang out the washing on the lines like this in Hebden Bridge

  • viking warlords

  • This is such a beautiful song, it makes feel like I'm next to a warm fire in winter while I reminisce about the pleasent experiences of my youth.

  • Only one speaker? What is this?

  • This song is one of the reasons why I love England.

  • No bad!

    In Memory of Nick Drake!

  • @glaeken14 I've always liked this song - it takes me back to my teenage years - but finding out it was inspired by and dedicated to Nick Drake just makes it that much better.

  • Anyone know which town this video is recorded in?

  • @0AndyC0 Hebden Bridge,West Yorkshire.

  • El orgullo de sentirse inglés . Clima neblinoso, atardeceres grisis . Oscurece a las cuatro . Llueve casi siempre .... Días ingleses, la vida en una ciudad el norte .

  • Team Buckley <3

  • loved the Salvation Army band :)

  • Great song....and great video.

  • good pictures these

  • This being a great song brought me here :3

  • you fucking retards this is a tribute to nick drake, remember it for the one of the greatest tributes to the greatest modern folk artist... he was a deeply creative man who died before the world could truly show its appreciation or destroy the beauty of his music. deaths like his cement the works of an artist in time, making them forever untouchable and immaculate. stop being twelve and making a big deal about king of the hill; its one goddamn show, but nick drake was a full person with a legacy

  • Yeah, but Buckley sent us here, then we learned about Nick Drake. So imaginary characters can do some real good. Such is the power of pop culture.

  • @moosesgalore You and I are in total agreement about Nick Drake, but I can't be mad at anything that might get him new fans and some recognition. It's all he wanted :)

  • witch the beatles...

  • It'd be nice if i could bleeding hear it. Why do all of you genius uploaders fail to put VOLUME.

  • @houstonveer Are you unable to adjust the volume on your computer? I turned mine up and can hear the song just fine.

  • doing all the other stuff is how they survived 30 years, unfortunately

  • OMG BUCKLEYS ANGEL IS MY FAVORITE EPISODE :D ITS SO SWEET BUT SAD RIP BUCKLEY AND LUANNE AND KING OF THE HILL I MISS THE SHOW SO MUCH D: oh and chrisstevensjunior buckley died from running in to the super market and now listening to hank to get out of the store then had an episode for his funeral there was part 1 and 2

  • How did Buckley die anyway?

  • @chrisstevensjunior Well, the Mega-lo-Mart where Buckley worked at started selling propane. Buckley didn't know how to handle the propane tanks, so he would drag them, pulling them from their knob. One day, a gas leak occured, and the Mega-lo-Mart exploded. Buckley was inside, and he died.

  • @gmchingon what an idiot..common sense,,

  • @gmchingon you cant blame him too much though

  • MTV just celebrated their 30th anniversary, but my question is this: How can a station be called Music Televsion when the majority of their airtime hours is dedicated to ANYTHING but playing music videos?

  • Buckley's ghost brought me here too. Glad he did. Lovely video and a song that will be around forever, it is just that good.

  • that chick is hot

  • lol @ 00:25 , when has it ever been appropriate to grab a child's head as you walk by

  • Stewie Sent Me

  • Kate should not dance, but great song & vid!

  • I remember "Music Box"....

  • @LoreYseult I'm just kidding hahaha but that show has alot of culture and history in it for me.

  • @LoreYseult I'm 47......

  • @LoreYseult This episode of king of the hill where luannes boyfriend buckley comes back to life after he died and he was an angel and there was a scene where they jumped on a trampoline and they played this song and it really captured the emotion that both the characters felt at the moment.

  • Everyone is bashing me because I put my age on the comment i made. mainly because no one I know listens to this music at my age group!(Or anywhere whatsoever) But godd, you guys are so blunt!

  • @LoreYseult It was an episode of a show called king of the hill, Buckley had died and came back to guide their daughter.

  • Nick is intense, Kate is HOT and Gilbert looks VERY uncomfertable dancing LOL !!!

  • Being a Yankee who now lives in Louisiana, this song makes me long for those autumn days in rural New York State. Great song!

  • I love listening to song in the middle of summer when it's sweltering because in my mind it instantly becomes chilly and raining.

  • so THIS is where Dario G got that sample

  • is it me, or does this song relate so much to 'never let you go - jakaranda' !?!!?!?!

Sounds so similar! Both great bloody songs though :)

  • @xcaitsx I think this song dates from 1985. The internet info on Jakanda reports that Jakanda dates from 1997 to 1998. I would think that Jakanda may have borrowed the hay um part for their song.

  • @xcaitsx yes, it samples it, and so does sunchyme by dario g

  • Buckley's Angel Wings of the Dope.

  • ( Buckley ) Hey.

  • The kids in this video are so cute. @ 1:06 We sooo wanted one of those growing up.

  • @BreakingDC Oh wow, you're 15, big deal. What do you want? Some thumbs up because this is an old song and you're 15? Get a life, just respect the song stop being a bitch and wanting some acknowledgement.

  • @McPigskin Reread and substitute your own name. Pathetic. No babies to take candy from?

  • @McPigskin You really want to bash others peoples opinions AND believe at the same time i'm being a bitch because I love this song? Wow. Just. Wow

  • @BreakingDC What I'm saying is that you should have left your comment as 'this song is so fucking magical.' Why put your age? What do you get out of it by putting your age? Its a great song, no one cares about how old you are.

  • @McPigskin What he, or she, means is that the song works as a song, not just as a memory blast for people who remember it the first time around - the age being relevant for that exact reason.

  • @McPigskin what the hell is your problem? she was just saying how the song has such a large reach by putting her age. What do you get out of it by being a total jerk to somebody who was just pointing out how this song can reach all ages?

  • this is one of the reason why I love Youtube.. i remember as a child this and many other vid and always thiking,,"is really must be more" and later on when i lived in Japan and see other films and vid that there really was other verison, part of films that was cut off in films or only in Japan release... now as i am older i can watch them thanks for this/

  • Produced by...

Sir David Gilmour, of Pink Floyd.

  • I remember well hearing this song played on the radio here in the states in the spring of 1986.

  • Another good song from times past , that will never be again. Today's music makes me want to puke.

  • I'm American but i always loved and appriciated great music like this from the 80's. 30 years later my IPod is still filled with all the classic songs like this...

  • always thought it were filmed in Holmeforth

  • Chicken Butt, you shall never be forgotten Buckley.

  • Buckleys angel!

  • David Gilmour had a lot to do with this...

On the "jukebox" at work, and it played in the kitchen... thank God!

  • Great song.

  • definitely the `north` as we know it....industrial chimneys, very steep streets, the colours are sim ilar to Edinburgh but

    , vernacular architecture quite different

    music teely to be sure...

  • Buckley's ghost brought me here

  • @npseudo1985 ditto

  • @npseudo1985 how did Lucky from king of the hill die?

  • @npseudo1985 yep same

  • I love how the caption reads RARE! Uhm, and we are so lucky to be listening to he he he! ;-)

  • The church at 0.56 is Heptonstall, final resting place of Sylvia Plath.

  • i wish i could have lived in days like this, now, u cant even have a convo with someone without a tv, cell phone, or ipod present, and its strange that i say that because i am only 17 years old, but nobody understands life anymore, if they get their phone or something taken, people will seriously commit suicide! i do not get it

  • @michaelswifey101 Listen to alex Jones for some explanation. Another revealing article is ...'Cell Phone Zombies' by Will Thomas.

  • Stunningly beautiful ode to Nick Drake. These guys should have made it bigger than they did.

  • lion king

  • This song was written in honor of the late Nick Drake, who died very young and was extremely talented. Check out his song "Northern Sky," the inspiration for this song.

  • I was living in Atlanta, GA when this song came out. I live in the Duluth, MN/ Superior, WI area now and I have a greater appreciation for it.

  • I played this song while celebrating the demise of Osama bin Laden.

  • Does anyone the name of the town (village) featured in vid ?

    Im an ex pat pom.

  • @MrTarryhoot The first clip was filmed in Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire with a second later version in and around Newcastle upon Tyne with some scenes filmed in Manchester. Hope that helps you.

  • @eqjilly RU sure ... it looks like Edinburgh !

  • @johnh23 Looks like Hebden Bridge to me. The church shown at 0;56 looks like St James's and then at various times you see a chimney, very prominent at 2.57 that looks like the Old Town Mill.

  • una de mis canciones preferidas de toda la vidfaaaaaaaaaa

  • Why would anyone not like this?????

  • king of the hill brought me here

  • back when mtv was music telly. they actually showed music vuds! unlike the crap they have now. r.i.p. mtv

  • @PHARRAOH Yeah, MTV got so far away from music, they started MTV2 which also descended into crap.

  • @PHARRAOH Yeah, Mtv was the coolest thing I ever seen when it first came out. Like you said RIP Mtv.

  • @PHARRAOH i remember in 1987 watching mtv with my friends my girlfriend witch is my wife now. thats when thay played music long live the 80s friend

  • @PHARRAOH Totally agree. My kids have no clue what I mean when I talk about mtv today. I will put on vh1 classic when they are playing good videos so they can kind of see. but it is not the same. Miss those good ol days.

  • @PHARRAOH never was a truer word spoken my man.always reminds me of the miners strike 84-85.when we had nothing, but still got by

  • It's hard to find music this good these days.

  • @SMALLCODNCHIPS

That;s what every generation says about their music.

People will say the same about todays's stuff, and don't knock it,

there's good gear in there if you listen lomg enough.

  • @willnotallow Thats just it, back then we did have to listen a long time to hear good stuff. It was all around us. Now the good artists get drowned out by the Biebers, etc.

  • @Metamorphosis33

very well put my friend! I really don't read most of the posts anymore because people ramble on about senseless things that have nothing to do with the songs. So I write what I feel and try not to get caught up with the Feeble minded garbage. Thank you for a refreshing reply! May your everyday life be blessed.

  • I can't explain it.

Everytime I hear this song it saddens me and brings tears to my eyes.

It is good to be alive and appreciate the beauty of this song.

  • @mrbug825 this is why music is the bridge between heaven and earth...it speaks directly to the soul and bypasses all the bullshit of semantics and language

  • @mrbug825 I think the song saddens you because it's about Nick's suicide. As a survivor of my darling brother's suicide, I can feel this song in every bone of my body.

  • I love when a singer whose voice I love turns out to be hot

  • Love this tune i live about ten miles from Hebdon Bridge where it was filmed.

  • slamlocker...I've been to your Country...such a civilized people...in fact, the friendliest I've ever met in my travels...I live in Canada but my father was from Grimsby...fond memories...cheers mate...

  • Another classic song.

  • Great. This song is about John Lennon i think. thanks

  • My God life in a northern town does look bloody miserable !

  • @bermudarailway Far from it! The scenery can be breath taking, the pace of life less frantic and the people warm without losing a certain down to earth quality.

  • KING OF THE HILL!!!!

  • @bangnbounce BUCKLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bangnbounce thats what got me here haha!

  • Come on....we need stereo version with the official video.....anybody....please? I know thats a lot to ask. It only comes out of the left speaker on this one.....wack.

  • More early MTV-ish than the "mature" version.

  • I appreciate this song more now than when I first heard it twenty-five years ago. Thank you for posting the video.

  • @txcheerleader27 lol yeah me too! I bet its an awesome song to wake up to right?

  • This Song Will Always Remind Me Of Buckley's Angel. R.I.P <3

  • Lol. I love this song. Heard it on King of the Hill. XD

  • thank you Buckley's Angel

  • Brilliant, thanks for posting.

Got most of my best dance moves and wardrobe in here !

  • Dario G - Sunchyme の元曲なんやね~。今日初めて聴きました!

  • Anyone know the name of the city where this video was filmed?

  • @jvidell Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire I believe.. yes agreat song from an era when Id moved up to Darlington, Co Durham from London - culture shock, I never regretted a minute of it..

  • the chant has been in a new song, can anyone tell me?

  • love this song like dad

  • This makes me tingle even after all these years. Reminds me of 1985 driving my mini. I regularly drive through Hebden Bridge and Todmorden and this video sums up the amazing northern scenery perfectly. Even in the rain the valley sides look amazing with streams running down them and sheep and goats clinging to the rocks. The lady is very cute too. Calderdale council does lots of walks in the summer around the area which are great( Calderdale Heritage Walks.

  • Oh wow just got a flashback (when they all jumped) of when I was 13 in 1985 watching this for the first time on MTV! Holy shit haven't seen this in years, thanks for uploading!!!

at the first opportunity went out and bought the album! =)

  • Greatest chant ever!!!!

  • I had always thought this song was from the late 60's or early 70's?? and just got popular again in the 80's WOW who would of thunk it!

  • Ahhh Gilbert Gabriel! Proving that not all black people have rhythm! Lol

  • so im very confused on the sugarland cover version of this song it the chorus is

    "hey ma ma

    into the night

    hey ma ma ma hey"

yet when dream academy sings it i cant make out the words i know its

    "hey ma ma

    __________

    hey ma ma ma hey"

  • amaaazing

  • This song is about Nick Drake. Most people claim its about life in England in the 50s and 60s. In a sense it is but much more about how Nick Drake might have felt suffering from depression and insomnia.

  • Hearing this song again digs deep into the archives of my mind's memories when I was a teenager in the 80's. Oh how the memories come flooding back.

This song is just as contagious now as it was back then.

  • @duenasmom . "digs deep into the archives of my minds memories" ? you better bring a flashlight.

  • @duenasmom couldn't have said it any better mate.

  • @duenasmom true..i'm 42 now..and your right..

  • Thanks. Was working abroad when this came out. Heard it on the local radio. Went straight out and bought the album! Only saw this vid recently on YT ~ very nostalgic!

  • songs from the past, my later childhood..... God i miss the 80's... such a happy time

  • I watched the episode of King Of The Hill with this in it last night. Beautiful song and beautiful episode.

  • That church 'on the edge' looks familiar ~ is on the north side of the A42?

  • @SuperNevile The church is the Church of St Thomas the Appostle in Heptonstall near Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire. Most of the video is filmed in and around Hebden Bridge (my home town).

  • @SuperNevile The church is the Church of St Thomas the Appostle in Heptonstall near Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire. Most of the video is filmed in and around Hebden Bridge (my home town).

  • Apparently the lyrics reference Nick Drake, always wondered who they were referring to ~ thank goodness for t'internet ~ put me out of my misery! This forms part of a brilliant album which I still play. Yorkshire and Spacehoppers ~ can't be surpassed!

  • Bloody awesome ... filmed the town i was born and bred in , Good ole Hebden Bridge in west yorkshire. Dam it brought back memories

  • I had moved up to a northern town ( Bishop Auckland, Co Durham) in 1983, from South London, so this song has a huge memory for me....the North, that land where brass bands play, chip butties are eaten, and real people live...

  • @slamlocker

Someone mentioned they thought that this was Edinburgh. Sorry no! This is Nothern England for sure. I think Hebdon Bridge. Edinburgh is a bigger city and the Scottish buildings are different from Englands at least in the citys.

  • What town is this?

  • Life In A Southern Town

Life in a southern town is one day up and one day down

I tried to get a job today but they were all out of dreams

I guess the promising of promises are not what they seems

    M.S. Morrison

  • this is the rare version???? this is the only one i rem seeing years ago. i didnt know there was another video version. in fact, i dont wanna know. this is good enoughh for me.

  • @narred Me too.

  • Bravisimo!!!!

    Una cancion mitica e historica!!!!

  • I love this version. I've never seen it. It shows that their original idea was somewhat adhered to by the record company when they decided to make it a hit. It's not that far in look from their original version, but has the artists actually IN it. I heard that Roger Waters produced it. I always thought Nick resembled Charlie Sheen. Thanks for posting it connorstreet! Cheers!

  • @rachelsonfire Actually it was produced by the band with David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame. David and Nick are good friends from way back. Nick also played in a earlier band with David's brother called "The Act."

  • well done rachel.i agree.my girlfriend is the little girl in the begining with her brother
