How can a guy survive a head first hit into a wall? Driver fatalities in open wheel racing will always be a big risk given that there are always incidentals that you can't build safety features for. It's always been this way. RIP Greg Moore. He was going to be driving for Roger Penske the next season. His seat went to Helio Castroneves.

yes it was , i was in the in field about 50 yards and had banoculars and they took the helmet off and Gregg had two black eyes and passed away.

Adrian Fernandez won that year.
