  • That final immage is the greatest in cinema history. To me it's all the violence the Church has perpetrated throughout the centuries. Who would have the balls to make such a statement in such a cinematic way. Bunuel is on that short list of true geniuses of cinema. The others include Kurosawa, Bergman, Fellini, Kubrick, and Herzog. They treat film as an art form rather than a mere entertainment.

  • adoro cuando lanza al obispo por la ventana

  • This doesn't make any sense, but I like it!

  • @nwaamw Welcome to Surrealism. Have a nice day.

  • I'm taking a class on Salvador Dali right now, and writing a paper on this movie for my final. It's so crazy that the movie was banned in France until the 90's because of that portrayal of Jesus at the end. Bunuel and Dali got such a kick out of making people squirm, hahah.

  • @GiveTheRabbitTrix Actually the film was banned in France until 1981.

  • This is still one of the funniest films ever made, hasn't aged one bit!

  • I watched the whole movie... now I can DIE HAPPY =D

  • ummm ok then???

  • wtf?

  • Thanks for uploading, as I've wanted to see this for some time.

  • Bunuel said himself that it was Christ. The drums are from Calanda as part of an Easter celebration.

  • @rwatson8 Can you tell me where I can find that drum music?

  • oh, i get it now!!!!

  • -cough- umm...wow. yeah...not much to say.... a bit speechless, i must say.

  • What the hell?

  • Vaya si que estamos reprimidos sexualmente jajajaja.

  • @Blackaeneas If this isn't Jesus Christ, who else should he resemble? I mean, just look at his gestures (he spreads his arms while he's standing on the bridge)... does look like Christ to me. Also, every source I found was mentioning Christ, do you have any other sources stating the contrary?

  • The Duc de Blangis resemble the image that some people has about Christ. Who knows how Christ looks like?

Buñuel make a yoke when the Duc's beard mysteriously vanished. Nobody can't tell that he resemble Christ any more.

  • @ruizdechavez Actually this character symbolizes church and is used as a social complaint. For them Christ resembles church as its head figure. They are naming him after de Sade's character so as to avoid much censorship.

  • @ruizdechavez The bearded person resembles the Church and it's corruption I've heard, not exactly Christ or Duc Le Blangis(which they name as for covering).

  • If that Duc does not resemble Christ, then you have been watching another movie...
