When I stood on the Spion Kop back then it had a capacity of 28,000. That's more people at one end than you can fit in many entire grounds. The capacity was gradually reduced over the years for safety reasons. In the end I think it was down to a 16,000 capacity. I can tell you, back then the Spion Kop was a truly awesome place to be. It heaved so much you came out feeling like you'd been in a tumble dryer. When we scored you'd end up about 50 yards from where you were previously standing. Scary!
