  • There are those who agree with you, good Sir! I was one of those "hey it's free so I may as well watch it" kinds of people, but I decided about a year and a half ago to try and support this industry that I've come to enjoy so much. I may not be able to buy $100 worth of anime all at once, but I can at least support it when I have the chance (plus I get a wicked collection that people can be jealous of :P ). You're awesome and I love your work. Stay that way :)

  • an honest voice goes a long way.

  • I agree 100%!

  • You know, I'd like to see BeavisandButthead313 go head to head against Kyle Hebert, cause, I'll admit, I'm not the best debater in the world, and pretty much any debate will devolve into an insult fest like some of my comments below. Might as well have someone who actually works in the anime industry get a crack at this guy.

  • Honestly, the mind of a pirate is so complexing you'd think it'd be classified as a mental illness. Apologies to anyone that finds this comment offensive.

  • I'm starting to wonder if BeavisandButthead13 is just a troll trying to waste everyone's time. You know, there are actually places you can LEGALLY watch anime online, such as Funimation's website, Crunchyroll, and even YouTube, provided that you watch it on that company's channel.

  • Nice video :D! Hope to see you at AX this year :3!

  • Can I order them online?

  • anime buisness would be doing alot better if it wasnt run by morons. kyle as somebody in the buisness tell funimation toDUB THE DBZ MOVIES ALREADY YO DON GOKU BOTH THE ERADICATING SAIYAN MOVIES we love this shit n wouldnt have to watch it on youtube if you guys didnt keep it from ever coming. Come on use your brains your talented especially you kyle so use your talent and dub these movies or piss off your fans lose credibilty n money, your choice:)

  • How am I not a fan of anime when I almost cried after watching Dragon Ball Z? I love anime to death and if it wasn't so easily downloadable, then you bet I'd buy all the DVD's, but why buy them if I can have it for free? I think what you mean to say is that were not fans of the business department.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 You're not a fan... You think you are. You steal from an industry you think you support and are one of the reasons these companies go under.

Stop rationalizing your so called entitlement, go buy it or don't watch it.

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja Believe me, if it wasn't so easy to get free, I would buy TONS of anime, so I am a fan. I'm just smart enough to know what's good for me financially. And apparently, it just so happens that anime falls under the free-category. Now lemme tell you this, I LOVE video games, I use to buy at least 2 video games a month until I realized that you can burn them and have em' for free, now I don't buy them anymore, so am I not a fan anymore? I use to buy them, SMH

  • @BeavisandButthead313 heres the killer.. thats what kills anime and soon there will be no anime because there i no money going into it download free or not it wont exist same goes for games i know you may like free, but fact is if you truely like an anime then buy it to support its continuation of being made, then you can sit there mad because it no longer exist yet it would be people like you that killed it

  • Comment removed

  • @BeavisandButthead313 my point is what exactly is it you believe funds those nice short animes,, it isn't air, though judging by your reply's and just being thick headed you might actually believe that they wont continue spending money to not make it, no matter how little you may actually know, you have to know better then to think they will lose money for the "fans" like you and sadly that ruins it for those who will support it

  • @fishman10988 Wow, No offense, but I think your stupid. Now listen, you're still not getting it. When I torrent an anime, it's always one that already has an ending, so I'm not really losing anything, cause the anime is always gonna follow-thru with an ending. I don't pirate new anime's that are still in production, I watch old one's, so I'm guaranteed to have a solid story. Does that make more sense to you? Now you can't say the stupid "anime is gonna die out excuse".

  • @BeavisandButthead313 and yet you still don't get that without them making money and yes they make money AFTER the anime is done, they don't make new ones to lose out on, you seem to think that they make all this money while the anime is still being aired with new shows, heres the thing there is no solid story, pirating in general hurts the anime industry, and no matter what words you use your wrong, so have at it, and yes actually i can, Cont..

  • @fishman10988 The thing you're not getting is that I don't really care if they aren't making money AFTER the anime is done. You know why? Because the anime is already finished, so why should I care if I already have a solid ending? Now lemme tell you why I DON'T pirate anime's that are still in production, I don't pirate anime's that are in production because I want it to finish before I watch. Like I've said, I never watch unfinished anime. I only watch FINISHED anime's.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 from the last post, i KNOW some of the people who voice these shows, there hasn't been alot going on in the business because the anime industry has been tanking and not doing well, so you can paint what you say black green blue yellow whatever your still wrong, fact is so many more here know whats going on here, and you obviously haven't got a clue the industry does lose out even if it is older animes plain and simple

  • @fishman10988 So what if they lose out. At least I got to watch that specific anime. This is exactly why I NEVER pirate anime's that are in production, because I don't like watching unfinished anime's. I'm not like the people that wait every saturday morning to watch DBZK on nicktoons. I'm the type of people that like to wait it out and watch it ALL at once. So even if an unfinished anime does lose out, it would of lost out either way cause I didn't pirate it in the first place.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 after that last comment, you can't expect anyone to take you serious, if they lose out there is no anime plain and simple so what if you wait eventually it all tanks and there is no more, yet you such a fan id laugh at you but its becoming close to a waste of time

  • @BeavisandButthead313 Just keep digging the hole...

And just keep rationalizing to your hearts desire and have fun watching industries you think you're supporting go down the drain to the point where you'll eventually have nothing new to download.

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja You're stupidity is incomprehensible. Tell me where I said I supported the industry? I never said I supported the industry. All I claimed is that I'm a fan of anime. You can call me not a fan until your heart's content. It still doesn't change the fact that I'm a HUGE fan of anime. A "fan" doesn't mean supporting, it means to have HUGE admiration torwards something. I watch at least 10 episodes of anime a day, so I think I'm clearly qualified to be a fan.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 You watch anime, you want to keep watching it, meaning you have to support the industry that produces them or else you won't have them anymore.

I'm done here, I lose more brain cells trying to figure out why you people think you're entitled to things than whenever I have discussions with vegan extremists or religious zealots. Have fun destroying anime.

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja I have a feeling that your just looking out for voice actors. I bet you have a 200GB HDD fulled with anime as well.

I watch anime because I LOVE IT TO DEATH! There's no WAY I would EVER stop watching it. The only reason why I pirate it is because I CAN. If I wasn't able to then I would GLADLY buy anime all the time. It's just that I'm doing what's best for me financially and it just so happens that I don't need to buy anime cause I already have it free.

  • @BeavisandButthead313

    1. I don't watch anime, so no, I do not have 100's of gigs of anime downloaded. I love the anime community and I work with voice actors as an engineer. Meaning I work because they work because the American companies get enough funding to license the shows.

    2. You think you're entitled. That's all there is to it.

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja I'll have you know that I spend around $900 a month for rent, and $350 a month for college books. All my bills at the end of the month total to about almost $2000. And I only make $2800 a month, so I'm basically only making $800, so why should I drain myself financially in order to be labeled as "fan". It just doesn't make sense to me.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 Of course it doesn't make sense to you, you think just because you have the means to you can take anything you want just because it's available.

Like I said, I'm done. There's no reasoning with people like you.

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja I'm entitled to be a fan, not entitled to be a supporter :)

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja The money that I'm making now goes to stuff that I can't get for free, like a new car and groceries and plenty of other stuff that I need.

    Now take the hint brother,

If I'm actually WILLING to buy anime (if it wasn't piratable) in my financial position right now, doesn't that tell you something?

It means that I would actually spend money on anime while I'm making 800 bucks a month. THAT'S HOW MUCH I LOVE ANIME!

  • @BeavisandButthead313 Just because you're willing doesn't mean squat to anyone but yourself. Go ahead and say that to anyone at the companies that you're stealing from and see how they view you, not as a fan, but as what you are.

And don't call me 'brother.' It's insulting.

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja Alright dipshit. Now what makes you think I care what anyone thinks? Of course the companies would be infuriated if I told them that. That's like a kick to the balls. But then again, who says that there right for calling me "not a fan"? They don't know what's in my heart, so they can't say I'm not a fan.

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja I'll have you know, NEARLY EVERYONE illegally download music every day! ILLEGAL MUSIC DOWNLOADS HAPPENS 10x MORE THAN TORRENTING DOES!

So, are all those illegal music downloaders "not fans"? Please!!! JUST STOP RIGHT THERE.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 All I hear is blah blah blah, rationalizing theft, rationalizing theft, rationalizing theft.

I tried to end this, but you're the only one is apparently getting all up in arms. Just stop here and walk away with your nose held high. And mind you, I said nose, not head. ;)

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja HAHAHAHA, EXACTLY!... YOU HAVE NO ARGUEMENT :)

  • Comment removed

  • @BeavisandButthead313 And yet you take the risk downloading, regardless... We're just going in circles here. I want you to stop downloading because it's wrong for not only the companies, but the actors, the staff involved in localization and all the real fans who don't download and buy all their anime.

You pretty much explained your situation to me. All there is left is judgement. And not only from me. But from everyone else.

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja Quick question, would you call someone a fan of anime if they bought it and didn't like it as much as me?

    My point is proved :)

    Go play in traffic.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 They'd be a bigger fan than you. No point proven.

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja What if the person is doing better financially and can afford to spend money on anime?

How would they be a bigger fan if they didn't like it as much as I do?

All your logic proves is that the term "fan" only means MONEY.

A person that enjoys the hell out of anime and pirates it because of low-income is more of a fan than someone who moderately likes anime and can afford to pay for it.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 "If an anime is done, there's really nothing to lose by pirating it because I already have a full story."

I can't believe you have the audacity to sit here and talk about what YOU have to lose by missing out on a complete story! No one cares if you only watch FINISHED shows! That defense is completely irrelevant! The thing you don't seem to understand is that you are STEALING whether the show is done or not.

and why do you pay 350 a MONTH for books?! Find a real college!

  • @lightsoul007 I'm not missing anything. What am I missing out on? It's already a COMPLETE story if the anime has an ending, correct?

Also, me watching FINISHED shows isn't irrelevant because it shows that I'm aware of the dying industries so I'm not gonna pirate anything until I'm sure the show is DONE AND FINISHED! How is that so hard for you to understand?

  • @BeavisandButthead313

How is it so hard for you to understand that downloading a finished show is no better than downloading one that's in progress? All you're talking about is what YOU are missing out on, you don't even get the point. You're watching it for free and no money is going back to the people who made it, thus, they cannot make more shows.

As far as Rush Hour 3, I hope you know that that is extremely illegal. Do you even know why Megaupload's owners are in court right now?

  • @lightsoul007 They cannot make more shows? Thats irrelevant and just a cheap excuse to get people to stop pirating. There's no way there gonna stop dubbing anime!

I can guarantee you that! Although, I do agree that pirating anime that are still in production is not good cause you are slowing the show down. But that "cannot make more shows" excuse is just plain idiotic. And giving away copies of movies is PERFECTLY LEGAL. It's SELLING copies of movies that's ILLEGAL.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 "There's no way there gonna stop dubbing anime!" Did you even watch the video? Companies ARE ALREADY shutting down and no longer dubbing anime. ADV shut down awhile back, now here as Kyle (the guy in the video) has mentioned, Bandai is no longer able to continue their business as normal either.

Japanese anime studios are shutting down left and right, they're no longer able to produce shows due to lack of FUNDS. There won't even be any anime to dub if this keeps up.

  • @lightsoul007 Not that this makes me anymore of a fan, but just to make you look stupid. I actually support all my favorite titles of anime by buying the Manga/and all there other merchandise ^_^

That's right, I have over 2,000 manga's that I've purchased in the past 5 years. Including action figures, posters, cards, you name it. Now just because I decide to pirate one entity doesn't mean I'm not supporting it in any other way. Chew on that.

  • @lightsoul007 Now let's see, Manga's costs about $8-$10 a piece. That's pretty expensive, you might say it's because they have to pay the artists who did the whole thing, that's right, but actually, manga's are really cheap (production-wise). The cost of producing one manga is about a dollar, but because the publishing houses have big names (such as tokyopop, dark horse, etc.) they try to make the most out of it, it's an effective marketing strategy, and I still buy it.

  • @lightsoul007 Why? Because I LOVE anime to death and I support it until I die!

Now just because I have my own little way of saving money (by pirating anime) doesn't make me not a fan. It's my own financial decision. Lemme tell you this, this is how it works for me. It's either I pirate manga, and buy the anime, or it's either I pirate anime, and buy the manga. That's how it goes! I make $800 a month and I still support my interests (even though I have a low-income).

  • @BeavisandButthead313 And stop saying "it's my own financial decision" like you have a right to steal stuff. I don't know why you don't understand pirating = stealing and you don't have any LEGAL right to choose piracy. Pirating is the opposite of supporting and while you might actually pay for some of the stuff you watch/read, whatever it is you're pirating you ARE NOT supporting.

Also 2,800 a month after taxes is not low income, that would be around 40k, which is the U.S. average.

  • @lightsoul007 It's true, I shouldn't be pirating anime, I'm wrong for that, but I can't afford it at this point in my life. You can argue moral standards on me all you want, it doesn't change anything cause I already know it's wrong. But my love for anime is too strong to not have it, so I must pirate it otherwise I'll go crazy. I would love to buy anime if I was wealthy enough, and you can say "Well TOO bad, You CAN'T afford anime".

  • @lightsoul007 But I don't really care what you have to say because we are two different people, and we have two different mindsets. Some people pirate, some people don't. You may do that if you can't afford anime, but than that only means that you don't like anime enough. Also, you are wrong, I make $800 a month after taxes (read my earlier comments).

Anime is one of the best hobbies I do, otherwise I'd die of boredom!

  • Comment removed

  • @lightsoul007 OKAY OKAY, YOU SHOULDN'T PIRATE ANIME BECAUSE YOU ARE GETTING IT FOR FREE, AND YOU ARE NOT HELPING THE INDUSTRY, BLA BLA BLA!

WELL, GUESS WHAT, NOT ALL PEOPLE HAVE LOT'S OF MONEY, AND SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO PIRATE SO WE DO IT ANYWAY, THAT'S THE REALITY OF IT.

If you seriously don't buy anime if you can't afford it, then that only means I'm a Bigger fan of Anime then you are. Why would you not want anime?

  • @lightsoul007 Not saying that I apply that "having the money" thing to everything cause it's not true. I always pay for EVERYTHING I have.

Except for anime, cause it's free, and it's the only thing I pirate.

I hope everything I said so far finally sunk in to your tiny little brain.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 Anime isn't free. You might know how to get it for free in the same way that I can get a tv for free if I just hop on down to that rent-to-own electronics store at 3 in the morning and clip the padlock off of the back door.

"All my bills at the end of the month total to about almost $2000. And I only make $2800 a month, so I'm basically only making $800"

Therefore you make 2,800 after taxes.

Anyway, I think you are a lost cause. Pay for what you watch. All of it.

  • Comment removed

  • @lightsoul007 How am I a lost cause if I'm supporting my family with a low-income and giving them all entertainment at the same time?

    I obviously can't AFFORD anime,

Like I said before, you don't like anime, you just love the "supporting" side of it.

I also love how your breaking down my income into thinking I have enough to buy anime.

I make $200 a week with 2 kids and a wife!! Muster up all those little brain cells you have and know that's not enough to buy anime!

  • @BeavisandButthead313 Why would I love "supporting" something I don't care about? It gets under my skin when I see people like you trying to justify stealing from the companies that produce it because you're endangering their ability to keep doing so. I don't know why you don't understand this. You've got 2 kids and a wife, so you should know about responsibility and owning up to things. Pay for what should be paid for. Do you try to justify stealing cable and sneaking into movie theaters too?

  • @lightsoul007 Ohh... I don't know, maybe you like starring at the pretty little boxsets, or maybe you have yourself a nice collection that you like on your shelf that you probably RARELY watch. Or maybe you just like collecting them. I know so many people that buy anime for the soul reason of having the boxsets as a collection.

I love anime for watching it, not collecting it.

  • @lightsoul007 Where are you coming up with all these stupid claims and analogies? When your pirating anime, people are giving it to you! When you wanna watch a free movie at the theatre's, no one is giving it to you!...You're just marching your way in without permission... Get the difference?

Also, stealing cable is stealing!... Cause you are taking it without permission, but when you pirate anime, people are sharing it with you!... All you're doing is accepting!

  • @lightsoul007 But don't get the wrong idea though, I'm not saying that I would accept anything stolen, cause I would NEVER do that, but when you pirate anime, the person bought it and is just sharing it with others.

Now you know that you went too far with that movie theatre/stealing cable thing, cause you know damn well that pirating anime is a lot more morally stable!

  • @BeavisandButthead313 Also, we already know you can't afford anime, hence our ENTIRE discussion about you pirating it. If you can't afford to buy it, you can't afford to watch it. Cut down expenses, do something responsible, SAVE your money like the rest of us do and pay for it as you can afford it. Save 20-30 bucks a month, in two months, buy an entire series.

What are your wife and kids gonna do if you pick up a tracked torrent and end up with thousands of dollars in fines, or in prison?

  • @lightsoul007 Ahahahaha... I love it how you said tracked torrents. Don't you know that all torrents have seeders & leekers? I'm not stupid enough to pirate something without reading the comments for possible viruses or some crap. If some torrents were really a trap, people would point it out in the comments. Besides, I've been pirating anime for as long as I can remember, they certainly never put tracked torrents in anime.

  • @lightsoul007 If I can count how much I've spent over the years, it would probably be about $10,000. You can gladly go fuck yourself for having the impudence to say I'm not a fan!

  • @BeavisandButthead313 You can't make me look stupid by suddenly telling everyone you actually do pay for stuff, which may or may not be true. No one would condemn you for the stuff you've actually bought, however, since your very first comment on this video all you have talked about is how you don't pay for it at all because you can't afford or don't want to. Manga are cheap to PRINT, however hundreds of hours of work go into making them, the artist has to get paid somehow.

  • @lightsoul007 It's true, I've spent about $10,000 on manga, cards, posters, shirts, action figures. I've probably spent over $3,000 on action figures alone. I have a HUGE collection of them in my room. Also, my beginning comments were talking about pirating anime, not any other type of merchandise like manga and stuff. I maybe wrong morally for pirating anime, but it doesn't mean I'm not a fan cause I've been into Anime/Manga for years, and spent 10k on anime merch!

  • @BeavisandButthead313 I dare you to go give away 1000 free copies of Rush Hour 3 in front of Wal-Mart, you'll see how "perfectly legal" it is pretty quickly.

  • @lightsoul007 Oh and did I mention I have around 5 dbz shirts, 4 yu yu hakusho shirts, and 2 death note shirts? What what!

Sorry, I couldn't hear you over my awesomeness! :D

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja If I liked anime a little bit and bought it, would that make me a BIGGER fan than someone who watches 20 episodes of anime a day by pirating?

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja Here's the key, "liking more" and "buying" are TWO completely different things!

You can LOVE something to death and can't afford to buy it, while someone likes something a little and CAN afford to BUY it.

So it's all a financial issue, It has nothing to do with being a "bigger fan".

  • @TheDeathMetalNinja Point is proven :)

  • Comment removed

  • @BeavisandButthead313 What kind of entitled person are you? It's not just a kick to the balls, you're outright telling their employees that you're stealing food off of their table. If you don't have the money to buy anime at the end of the month, then sorry you can't afford to watch it! You can't go to a restaurant and say, "I would GLADLY pay for my food if I could afford it, but I can't so I'm gonna walk out of here without paying!"

$800 monthly is plenty to buy the shows you're watching.

  • @lightsoul007 Who the hell are you to tell me how to spend my money?

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW I SPEND THE $800 A MONTH I MAKE!

First off, HALF OF IT ($400) goes to my savings account cause I'm saving to move out of Michigan, and the other 400 goes for groceries for me and my family.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 You're right, I have no right to tell you how to spend your money. However, we're not talking about you spending money now are we? We're talking about how you DON'T spend it. If you want to avoid jail time, it's best to NOT STEAL. I don't go around saying I have the right to steal shit just because I can't afford it. I lost my job last month and when that happened, guess what! I stopped buying anime because I can no longer afford it! See how law-abiding citizens do things?

  • Comment removed

  • @lightsoul007 I can pirate anime all I want, and I do it cause of my personal situation as of now, you can tell me that I'm stealing, and I'm not a fan, bla bla bla bla bla bla blas, I've heard that a million times before, but truthfully, I don't give a fuck what you guys think cause you don't know my situation.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 Your situation is that you're stealing... I don't need to know anything else, this is what I'm trying to explain to you. Yes, you can pirate it all you want... until you go to jail or get hit with thousands of dollars in fines.

  • @lightsoul007 The difference is, is that your're stealing food.

When pirating, you are not stealing, you are sharing! Someone is giving it away, it's not stealing!

It's no different then making 1,000 copies of Rush Hour 3 and giving them away at Walmart.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 You may LIKE anime, but you aren't a FAN if you go around downloading it for free. You're not supporting any of the work that goes into it, and that practice doesn't keep the already dying industry afloat. Here's a hint: if you don't buy it, they won't keep making it. Not out of spite, out of they can't afford to anymore a la ADV, Bandai, the Japanese studios that went under etc. Fans understand this and try to keep it coming by paying for it.

  • @lightsoul007 Who says I have to be a fan of the hard work? Why can't I just enjoy it for what it is? Why can't I just be a fan of the product?

If I bought one season of dragonball because it wasn't pirateable, would that automatically me a fan because I purchased it? No, it just means that you admire the certain product enough to purchase it. You ever look up what "fan" means? It means liking something, money has nothing to do with it.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 If you're actively participating in destroying the industry that you claim to be a fan of, you are not a fan. Fans give support to what they like, simply liking something is not what a fan is. You say you burn games too, I don't think you realize how far you're sticking your neck out. Something tells me you won't be such a "fan" of these things if the product owners chase you down and put you in jail. I honestly don't think you would buy it if you couldn't pirate it.

  • @lightsoul007 If an industry is still in production, I never pirate it regardless until it's finished, then I pirate it. Besidess, I'm not those type of guys that like to wait for anime in production, I like to watch them when all the episodes come out at once. So the "industry excuse" is pretty much now rendered useless. And really, I wouldn't buy anime if it wasn't pirateable? I'll have you know that I used to buy 2 video games a month until I realized it was burnable.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 "If an industry is still in production..." Do you mean if an ANIME is still in production?

The industry is the system that creates anime, ALL anime. Sort of like the MOVIE industry makes movies, the AUTOMOBILE industry makes cars. You keep pirating anime, there will be no more anime period. Pirateable or otherwise. Your point doesn't refute the "industry excuse" at all, and I don't understand why you think waiting till an anime is done makes it ok to pirate it.

  • @lightsoul007 If an anime is done, there's really nothing to lose by pirating it because I already have a full story.

  • @lightsoul007 So all it means is that if I have to buy it, then I'll buy it, and if I can get it for free, then I'll get it for free. Sorry, but you're an idiot.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 - you are just a leech, not a fan, but a leech!

  • @RyoWolffe How am I not a fan if I would buy it if it wasn't free? Think about that.

  • @BeavisandButthead313 a TRUE fan will find ANY way to help out the industry they love. Whether it's through legal streaming, merchandise purchases, and anything that can help to have more of the show being made.

  • Kyle, you know I have no ipod or ipad I save all my money up for con.....I do watch free episodes online but if I like it enough I want a hard copy (i like watching it on the tv better and i like dub better) But I buy those hard copys, I love my RomeoxJuliet box set!!!!

  • The only anime i've ever downloaded is the Ocean dub of dbz ep 108 and onwards. But they didnt come out on DVD so its fine and i own the Funimation orange bricks so i pay for my anime. Fuck the pirates.

  • i buy dvd's but i mostly watch anime online BUT on free official legal sites like watch cartoon online and anime freak. Is that ok and does that make me a fan.

  • @x20djw that's not legal, if you watch one piece, go to onepieceofficial(dot)com, if anything else, watch it illegally then, watch the legal version on hulu a week later... contributing 99c per view is more than enough you can do, and if more people watch, naruto's fanbase is about 6 million, so if most watch, they'll get 5 million an episode, but sadly only like 50,000 people watch

  • @Shippudencave Usualy i'll buy some of the one's i've watched online but only my favourite. i feel kinda bad since i'm contributing fully to my favourite kind of art. i do buy manga from book stores though.

  • @VictoricRong Alright haha I was just thinking that granted it's 8 bucks a month and millions of people use it, I wasn't sure if it was exactly helping the industry

  • This may sound stupid, but would Netflix fall under the category of piracy? You may pay for Netflix, but would it still be considered not paying for like a series or dvd?

  • @BeyondTh3Grave No! Netflix is no piracy at all. You pay for the service, and in tern the people who put there shows on it make money. They don't just give them to Netflix for free. The industry makes money from it. :3 You're good to go!

  • I like the way you think. :)

  • yeah piracy is bad i know its hurts the anime industry alot. Unless kyle has been off the internet since the start the December. But SOPA! should stop it alot of it but the tradeback is if this goes through then everybody esle lose's not going to go into who gonna get effected by sopa. My personal thoughts shotgun i know iam gonna get hate from this but who care's. that more people are gonna be hurt by sopa going through then if it isnt going through. side note love anime shame its come to this.

  • aizen speaks!!!! all hail aizen. kyle you rock man

  • I try and buy anime when i get money from my paycheck and just went to best buy and brought eden of the east both movies for 25.00 each and Naruto shippuden bonds and bleach fade to black for 15.00 each at wal-mart so who ever says anime cost to much are dumb. but i will say anime inst cheap either the anime company need to make money two dont they. Nice video Kyle :)

  • Amen Gohan

  • Amen! Down with piracy!

I spent a lot on Blu-Ray Anime this Christmas, but I generally do my shopping with Funnimation. Had no idea they were under hard times or I would have gotten Bebop or something! Awwwww, and Gurren Laggan was such a great show too, the DVDs are gonna be hard to find now and I was gonna buy that next. I'm glad they're still doing it digitally though...

  • @Phenomex4life That is until the feds come a knockin' because they did a trace on torrents marked with copyrighted information. Then the judge gets to decide what happens to their money! Think it can't happen? Look up what happened to a bunch of people who used to pirate music, they got taken to court and had to pay out more money than I think has passed through my hands in my entire 27 years of life!

  • Plus Japan was hit with a tsunami in 2011

  • Lol

How many companies have closed their doors since 2007?

And it's not just due to piracy either. Welcome to a BAD economy!

  • From an interview: "Bandai Entertainment will change towards helping group companies as opposed to making profit ourselves. They'll continue handling licensing and sub-licensing for digital, tv and merchandise for group company properties, this new role might even involve shows that Bandai Entertainment never had access to. Whatever group companies want us to handle, we will help them. Our purpose will be like it was in 96-98 before we started doing physical distribution". Good news or bad news?

  • @InfernityZ3r0

Doesn't sound bad at first glance, though it really depends on how strong the out reach to Bandai is. Additional tv and potential marketing resources sounds very promising, IMO.

  • i went to ebay looking for a cheap dvd of season 1 for digimon. saw some1 selling it for 130$ laughed and went to watch it for free. sorry guys but id rather give my money to poor ppl then greedy people

  • @iopenpacks And you, my friend, are what we like to call a bloodsucking leech.

  • @iopenpacks I would honestly like to see some proof of you giving money to a "poor person". I doubt you would give even 5 cents to someone who would ask you on the street. $130 sounds insane but I'm sure if you would of looked harder you would of found it cheaper.

  • @iopenpacks see thats because you went to ebay, that one season is owned by one person who was greedy, not from an actual company, not from a convention or store. Ebay is ran by the person selling the product. Yes all companies are greedy, but there are some, usually nerdy or otaku based, that do it for the love of their product. If anime companies go under here, next is the rest of the world & then eventually Japan itself. Who have already said, it's greatly affecting them as well.

  • I absolutely hate the "I'm too poor" excuse. As a broke, unemployed, living with the parents college grad, I know how painful it is not to watch your favorite show. But instead of illegally watching them, I'm filling my time with other things. Anime isn't the only thing in your lives. I'm trying to get a job, get an apartment, work my ass off so I can get more anime. I hate it when people think they can get what they want without working for it.

  • Man how are there 7 dislikes? What someone hear was about watch some anime online, and felt bad for watching this? It's the truth, I'm not going to lie and say I've never watched anime online for free, but I've stopped doing that because I do love the material, and started sponsering it

  • Great vid :) Real fans do want to support the anime/manga they love - my friend was searching throughout the web for a manga she loved, just to support it and hope the producers would get the next series out. (It was unavailable though)

  • I couldn't agree more Kyle, I am tired of these so called "fans" I call them leeches of the fanbase getting this stuff for free and never put a dime back to the stuff they illegally downloaded. I can see if you support the series when it comes out but these self entitled leeches get on my nerves. They can't use the excuse "I don't have any money" you know what get off you lazy butt with your video games that cost $60 a game and find the way to get the money leech.

  • save collections are ace just got sekirei pure engagement i know it costs but if i want it i will save for it simple as.

  • I'm getting sick of the people who pirate anime. I love Bakuman. The manga and the recent dubbed anime. You know what? I DID watch the dub of Bakuman on watchcartoononline and read the manga on sites, but you know what? I BUY the mangos and anime dvds (only the ones I really like) now bc i LOVE this series and I want it to continue.

People, when you pirate anime and mangos, you are stealing the company's money.

  • I was really upset when i heard about Bandai cause i know Bandai distributed most of if not all the gundam series in North America and with out them im afraid gundam may die in america. I will definitly do my best to buy as much gundam and anime in general that I can in 2012.

  • lol Kyle you really believe trolls will call you fat and old? They're automatically subdued from doing that because youre the voice of Gohan. Anyways, I see where you're coming from with this. Lots of other people have been complaining about how the industry isn't being supported, and it's true. If you get your anime through piracy, you're not a fan. All they need to do is hit up amazon.com they have loads of anime and for cheap too.

  • I hear you Kyle, and I'm so upset that it has come to this. Boxsets are expensive, which is why I usually wait until Christmastime when there are a lot of great deals to stock up. Bandai was hands down one of the best distributors of English dubs and, especially since recently seeing the dub of Durarara, I'm going to miss them. Hopefully Funimation will keep things going strong in the meantime, and I wish you all the best in future endeavors :)

  • it sucks for those of us who love to collect especially for our favorite series! what these illegal downloaders and fansubbers fail to realize is there hurting the fans also when company's go out of buisness like this!

  • i aint gonna lie i do watch my anime online n i think most of us do but if its anime i really liked i will buy it no questions asked cuz it would be impossible to buy EVERY anime u have EVER watched lol unless ur a billionare or own microsoft

  • Preach

  • Every single thing he mentioned in this video is the pure truth and people need to learn that, "I can't afford it" is a lame excuse, if you are a teenager like me then work for it by doing chores and then save up if you truly claim to love anime and manga so much and in the end its worth it because you are getting something you love after actually working to get it and you feel good knowing you just supported a series or company who you love and appreciate.

  • I also have to say that I used to strictly download only from fansubs or groups that release in dual audio but as of the middle of 2011 I only download fansubs of shows that have no legal alternative and then once it releases in manga by Viz Media/Anime by Funimation, etc I ALWAYS now support and buy the DVD release of it if I love it. I think all anime fan should, if you claim to be a die hard fan you should show it and give back to the industry who makes it for you ultimately. No excuses.

  • I've got to be honest, seeing an anime voice actor a true anime fan himself is really cool to me. Sure some may like anime but it seems you actually like it and what you do. But that's besides the point, I've posted so many comments about supporting the legal releases on other Bandai related videos this week, just wanted to say that though.

  • I try to watch anime that's streaming legally, but there's also "must see" anime such as Madoka Magica, and Bakemonogatari (NOT the sequel) that had never had that opportunity. I've been buying a lot of anime this year, and because I watched Madoka and liked it a lot, I've already pre-ordered all 3 of the LE volumes for it. If I had not seen that show previously, legally or not, there's no way in heck I'd spend anything on it for Aniplex's high prices just to say "I wonder if I'll like this?"

  • @wakazhi

I have not seen it at all. But I would've just watched it on Netflix. I've heard of it all year, not through friends, but through AnimeNewsNetwork. I personally don't care to be the first or last person to see it in Japan while it airs.

I had a chance to see a preview of it at an anime convention, through the creator. It was great.

I only saw 1 episode, and I plan to buy the whole set.

  • @tygerchickchibi

    *not seen the full series

  • @tygerchickchibi The reality is that not every anime is on Nextflix or legal streaming. I have enough money to be a "wise buyer", but not enough to throw $50-$100 at something I've only seen an episode of. I always try to level what I plan to buy. But if the price is tempting enough (ex: Genshiken boxset for $15 instead of $90), I may buy it while it's still on sale, even if I only heard good things and hadn't seen it. The price determines whether I'm an impulse buyer or a cautious buyer.

  • "these people have the audacity to call themselves fans." That's one of the things I have a problem with. Torrent downloaders are NOT fans of anything. They may like the certain media, that's why they choose to steal it, but they CANNOT call themselves fans. If your actions are partly or wholly responsible for the downfall of an industry, you're not a fan in the slightest. Piracy does nothing but hurt the Anime Industry. No good comes from it.

  • @pwner360

I certainly agree, yet how does one go about fixing this problem? In order to dampen the effect piracy has on the industry, let alone eliminating it completely, I don't see how it can be done without long-term and sustaining restrictions across the board.

Yet this is a double-edged sword in that many, many people would fight against it for various reasons, and what of the fans? Who's to say how many would be turned away by such actions?

  • lololol your fat your old your bald i laughed so hard when he said that but he has such a good point im a die hard for anime got the whole dbz collection from db-db gt bought them from walmart :D

  • Piracy is stealing, that's something that no one can deny because it's a fact, hence the reason it's called "piracy" to begin with. And regardless of what you think "promoting" a show does for the industry, stealing a company's product does NOT result in profit for that company. There are other ways to promote your favorite shows other than uploading the entire series for others to pirate.

  • *continued*

    So, hopefully they'll listen!

Keep anime alive people, not a big anime fan, but still!!!!

And 1 last thing I wanted to say...DB/Z/GT/KAI FOREVER!!!! <3

    - This huge obsessive girl fan out :)

  • @ultimatedbzgtdbfan Uh, I think I speak for the majority when I say "you can leave the GT part out". lol. As a huge Dragon Ball and DBZ fan, I deny GT's existence as far as being canon.

  • @wakazhi lol. I personally liked GT :p

But I respect others opinions if they don't like it :)

  • Thnx for posting this Kyle, 1st of I want to say I love your work on dbz!!! Yayy Gohan! He's my fave! Thnx 4 working hard on the show!!! ^^

But yeah, that's what I am always telling people, support the show, buy the dvds!!

I'm not much of an anime fan, bought like 5 different animes. But the only one I truly and forever will love is the dragon ball series! That's why I always support it by buying the dvds and all I can purchase that's official. And I'm always telling people what u said

  • Yay Kyle! I'm so glad you posted this video! I support my anime community and this year alone I have purchased over $450 of anime and merch. You guys make awesome dubs and I just want you to know it means the world to me that you guys share it with us fans. One day I hope to be involved with the voice acting myself. You are amazing and inspirational. Much love and continued support!

  • Thank you Kyle for adding to what I've been thinking for the last few years. I'm glad industry workers such as yourself as Stephanie Sheh are taking a more vocal stand on the issue. I feel for you guys, I really do. It seems you are pursuing a dream in a field where the dollars aren't there right now. As a person who quit pirating a while ago (2 years, trying to purchase DVDs of all my pirated series), I know how hard it is to get the message out. Good luck...I wish you the best going forward.

  • Alone in latin america acepted the pirates.

  • @gohanvox just to let you know I agree, I was just adding more factors to the mix.

Look at gaming Japan is having trouble there too, whilst the west is doing very well. I have NHK World and there are show after show about declining cultural forms in Japan: Geisha, ceramics, bath paintings and so on.

Agreed that Piracy is a problem, but it is also a symptom.

  • @sxdxdb1 Another problem is that in Japan the industry model is polarised. Yes DVDs cost a ton, but the TV shows mainly go out at night and even then the Studios pay the TV stations for the privilege. That is an extreme model, that only really worked because the Japanese propensity toward singular hobbies and the lack of space in homes.

Streaming and the internet (legal and non-legal) massively undermines that. At the same time the shows have been more and more Japanese otaku focused.
