That is probably the last concert that they ever performed wearing identical suits. Their hair was getting really long at that time too. Shortly thereafter the Beatles were the unofficial band of the Hip Generation.
Wow, they are SO close to the audience here. Such a shame the whole concert wasn't filmed as the quality of sound and colour film is stunning. They look quite bored playing the same old songs from 2-3 yrs ago, no wonder they quit live work very soon after.
oww, never have the volume on full blast on headphones, when ur about to watch part of a beatles concert live. MY EARS, I CAN'T HEAR! :) still love the Beatles though!
no, they could never blow them off if the beatles had tried to play good.
but during this part of their career they gave a shit about concerts to be frankly.
and they hated the 30 minutes gig.
give them a stage, give them 4 hours and let them run wild and they would have blown away bands like the who or the yardbirds like they did back in hamburg.
Hey - the film wasn`t edited at all! Nothing else was filmed! And´: the film was silent - the guy synched it just by looking at what was played. The editing is terrific!
Great stuff !!! This compliments and contrasts well with the B & W footage, as not only is this in colour ( so we can see how it looked for real ) but also the camera angles a different which gives us another " view "; etc. Thanks for putting it on. Regards.
The 1966 Eurpoean Tour was the highlight of a very BAD year of touring for the Beatles. After Europe, it all went completely downhill: Japan, the Philippines, and the U.S. were disasters.
but he never played his rickenbacker bass live as far as i know, even when this hofner here would have broke he would still have his old hamburg hofner as backup.
@lassiebug1o1 You heard what the German fans heard. Due to the devaluation of the German Mark at the time, the Beatles reduced their concert from the usual 35 minutes to 2:20 minutes. In that way the pay received equaled the music presented.
I think The Beatles could have performed Taxman, Here There And Everywhere, She Said She Said, Good Day Sunshine, And Your Bird Can Sing, I Want To Tell You from the Revolver album in 1966. Truth is that the audience was so loud it didn't matter what they played or how well they played the reaction was always the same. No wonder they wanted to quit touring.
They could have done those songs, but given that John saw "She Said She Said" and "And Your Bird Can Sing" as throwaways, and that George didn't really like "I Want to Tell You," it seems unlikely that they would have. Of course, that's assuming that they would ever have considered performing parts of "Revolver," which they obviously didn't.
The Beatles last tour in 1966 they had just released their new album Revolver. Hard to believe that during this tour they did not perform one song from that album.
they couldnt play anything from revolver beacuse it was too complicated thats why they stopped touring. but it deffinately wouldve been cool if they could
Point taken about the Beatles not wanting to perform songs that were too complicated. However, then, why did they do a simplified version of "Yesterday" (minus the string quartet)? Indeed, the Beatles could have performed simplified versions of their "more complicated" songs. They could have done Eleanor Rigby, Here There and Everywhere, Taxman, and others to keep the shows fresh and to help themselves retain interest.
great footage...great find! when I met Lennon in 1975 he signed a bootleg LP from Japan '66 and commented that "we sounded 'orrible on that last tour"...I have to agree but it's still cool to watch! peace
This doesn't look post-synched. The only other recording of this concert is from the b/w footage made by Bayerischer Rundfunk, and you can hear BR took their sound from the mixing board while this thing was obviously recorded with a mic close to the speakers (note John's voice drowned out vs BR footage for instance). In the BR footage, you shortly see the police camera man walk across the stage behind John, and he's obviously wearing a pilottone synchrecorder which indicates livesound recording.
Plus, you can hear the slight analogue pitch/volume change at each cut, which indicates this is no post-pro edit but the whole original footage; each cut is where the original camera operator actually stopped his cam.
george play with his Gisbon SG during "day tripper"?because the pickguard of the casino was white and in this title the pickguard was black, and the body was not the same of casino?i'm right?
True, but i've never seen a video of a live concert in which he use it.George use the SG on the NME Poll Winners Concert on May 1st,1966,but it's never been filmed.
The '66 NME concert was indeed filmed but The Beatles segment was cut from it due to a disagreement between their management, NEMS and the television people over price. A pity!
Yes-you're right! I always thought Lennon looked his coolest at that time with the black polo neck and clear amber-colored "Easyrider"-style sunglasses look.
They were a great live band early on..but once they toured the world(1964-1966)..the quality of the shows..with the lousy house PA systems...the heavily boosted amps...the roaring crowds...not able to really hear each other on stage..the performances suffered..but nobody cared..they were "The Beatles"...
THE BEATLES were NEVER a great ''live'' band during the BEATLEMANIA days....they were an AMAZING studio band during those days....and they will never be matched as the greatest pop songwriters of ALL TIME!
