  • pretty sure this song is about cancer.

  • This one is for you MOM

  • and if it was about a disorder i would guess bipolar.

  • @GommerGuy During a brief stay in the hospital's psychiatric ward, to which he willfully committed himself, Good was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The genetic illness was traced back to his mother's side. Recalling past events and stages throughout his life, he has described the diagnosis as a relief, adding "it was like finding the final pieces of the puzzle." - Wikipedia... Good guess : )

  • "I'm not a failure because I didn't succeed-- I'm a success because I tried."

To anyone who needs it, please keep trying.

  • @MoondogRamona I like that quote. Thanks for posting it

  • This song strikes a chord, no matter who you are or where you came from, everyone should give this song a listen.

  • @shine090909 That's OK. For me I can't help but see it that way. Won't deny you the right to see it the way you do either. That's the nice thing about music. The same song can mean different things for different people.

  • Im pretty sure this song is about depression- not cancer

  • @lostinstereo135 if I recall correctly, Matthew himself said the song was written for a friend who's father was dying of cancer.

  • I'm a smoker, and this song makes me wanna quit smoking, just cause its like hes talking about lung cancer, and its like he describes the funeral too, kinda scares me... Really good tune.

  • The thing about music is that it can be anything you want it to be. He said he wrote it about cancer, but it could easily be translated into anything else, which is what makes it so special.

  • @morgoth2000 exactly. Doesn't matter what he wrote it for or about. If it connects to you for a different reason that's just fine.

  • this song is about his friends father who died of cancer

  • Actually I remember hearing Matthew say that it was a song about a friends father who was dying or something...

  • Comment removed

  • song's about his friend's dad who was dying of cancer.

  • ummm, it's like, 99% about a terminal disease, not a mental one. trust on this.

  • @ayatokzorro matthew good is bi-polar.

and this song is about his best friends mother who had cancer..

  • Beautifully depressing song. But what's with all the static?

  • @AngryRantingNerd I don't hear any static, but my file is a copy of the actual rip.

If you mean static images it's case I don't know how to animate & didn't want to take away from the actual song.

  • 2:10-2:50 ish. It's on my copy too. And I ripped the CD myself.

  • @AngryRantingNerd its supposed to be that way.

    intentionally static. it's metaphorical..

  • @SkyThunderClaw I guess.

  • all of his song have meaning you just need to listent to them carefully ive been a fan of matthew for more than 2 decades and i will remain a loyal fan for as long as i live

  • I take it you have no problem w/ me using the song as a base for a video about depression then.

  • @deadz74 You'd heard of him before last of the ghetto astronauts? Are you from the vancouver area?

  • Amazing song, Matthew Good has to be the most imaginative artist now a days. He is definatly amazing.

  • developing an addiction to Ativan and being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, The album was the first self-produced effort of his career and was written during his recovery from overdosing on Ativan and a stay in the psychiatric ward.[3] Hospital Music included darker subjects, such as Good's close friend losing his father to cancer ("99% of Us Is Failure").

  • everyone says it's about cancer, but it seems more for depression...

  • @tayrex77 one hundred percent about cancer and the effects on others of it.

  • Great song!

  • He does suffer from Bi Polar Disorder, but this song isn't about it, as many have said.

  • he wrote this song for his best friend's dad after he died of cancer. i don't know where you are all getting this bi polar part from

  • you're right, it's in his blog

  • this song is about cancer - he says so in his shows :s

  • I didn't know that. It does work for depression though, too.

  • I always thought that the song was about when he was in the hospital with Bi Polar. thats what my teacher told me.

  • That fits w/ what my best friend told me. She didn't say bi-polar though just a stay in the mental hospital.

  • Powerful song.

  • Good job. Teared up a bit.

    -S

  • Thanks. Glad you gave me the song aren't you. :)
