Martial arts are a dying breed fellas. We should stick together instead of fighting over the differences. I respect anyone willing to train the body. It is called "self" discipline. If your too busy talking about others technique in a negative light you yourself will not grow. We martial artist are all brothers and sisters.
i respect there athletic ability, but it's not a martial art, plain and simple. much like this conversation, wushu bores me. if you are happy thats all that matters.
please don't be sorry for me. i'm rather sorry that you seem not to have any respect for contemporary Wushu. isnt it taught in traditional Wushu to be respectful of ALL styles and not speak ill of them?
good for you...if you are happy, that is all that matters. if you keep telling yourself it's real gung fu...who knows, you may believe it one day. because it is empty...
1. weak response. 2. both have their pro's and con's, but neither is empty. how can i say that? b/c i practice traditional, contemporary, and internal Wushu so i have first-hand experience with all of them. have you trained in contemporary? if you have, then you'd know it's not "empty".
do they understand the energies? do they condition there forearms and shins daily? is the training geared towards understanding how, when and why to use a certain technique? then applying to a non-compliant partner. or is geared to performing forms? is there history in wushu, like of the styles, ettiquete, sets, ect? does wushu include cultural aspects like the mo si?
yes. some do. some don't. same applies to traditional folk. btw, not all traditional schools emphasize applicational use. there are plenty that emphasize forms and "sparring", though the sparring is just running around punching and not applying actual techniques. also, traditional Wushu is included in the history of contemporary Wushu since, after all, contemp did derive from trad as you previously stated.
much like an egg without a yolk...on the outside it looks like an ordinary egg, but inside it's empty...it's really a shame. but it has to be taken for what it is...an entertaining performance.
contemporary wushu is a "performance" art, which has roots in traditional chinese martial arts. but it is not a martial art no more than gmynastics... ie very little martial application.
i would give it more credit as a martial art than to compare it to gymnastics. if one takes the time to understand the movements of contemp Wushu, one will notice that they can be applied martially. same goes for trad - there are trad practitioners that know the movements and cannot apply them. also, just b/c Wushu is a "performance art", it does not mean that it is "empty" - contemp Wushu has just as much substance as trad Wushu does.
contemporary Wushu IS more of a martial art than it is gymnastics. if one really takes the time to understand the movements, one will notice they can be applied martially. same goes for traditional - there are trad. practitioners that know the moves but cant apply them to save their life.
There's no bagua in the performance. The guys in white are wushu taiji performers. The girl in yellow is a famous dancer named Wang Yabin and that's all she's doing....dancing. (modern dance)
The title should be TaiChi...

u know why the goverment turned to modern wushu in the first place? death would occur during each competition in the old days to competitors.
they just had it with all the hate/revenge jiang hu bullcrap (cuz each time someone died, pupils of their side would of course be pretty angry :P)
ShaoBo 4 years ago
whaha damn, those taiji peepz with nan du nowadays even jump better than chang quan and nan quan peepz :D
and for the discussion of modern-traditional
modern wushu is a sport/show, not self defence
it's like saying that soccer is empty
how would the olympics look like if peepz starting to fight each others with weapons :P

how, then, can contemporary Wushu be "empty"?
orihx3 5 years ago
if anything, contemporary Wushu should be considered equally substantial, if not more, since it includes traditional and then some.
