  • 3:51 .... can we get a copy of that to look at lol. Holy shit that looks impressive.

  • LOL the dissertation (at least the one I read) has a spelling mistake.

    Bad form! :P

  • That's insane, someone just got a LOT of time on their hands!

  • isnt this just modifying material through matenee?

  • ur one skilled ass motherfker :o

  • Sweeeeeet and congratulations for graduating

  • dude, you're a genius, mind if i use these techniques?

  • ( . )( . )

  • I was inspired, so I made a simplified version of the snow shader from your thesis--so cool! Keep up the good work!

  • My god, you are a beast. I'm studying computer science right now, and now I really want to get into shader programming! Bravo!

  • Okay, you convinced me that the only thing the unreal engine can't do is dynamic odor.

  • Big respect from one UDK dev to another ;)

  • Holy S_it! s_it sh_t s_it sh_t (echo)

  • You are insane!!! IT's awesome!

  • Wow, that's so amazing that I want to put a snow environment in my game just to use that.

Also, I think you win an award for that ground shader.

  • Very impressive.

  • this was exactly what i was waiting for. dynamic for each element. now we need more fluid animations for characters. more interaction. not so stiff. uncharted 3 made the first steps of what i have in mind.

  • How well do you believe it would perform in large-scale use (i.e. an actual game)?

It's most impressive despite any potential faults brought up by my previous question, however!

  • Im download right now its got 1 day left to download :?

  • great

  • Please, make a tutorial. This is amazing.

  • Wow. This is really cool. Excellent work. Do you know any good free tutorials where i could teach myself the basics of udk? I looked on youtube but the vids all lag or are not in hd. Thanks.

  • this is amazing, a true step into the next gen weather system! +1

  • Using this is it possible to add a water effect on a character model? It makes me think of Uncharted 2 where the snow levels had the characters actually with some snow on them and the rain level had their clothes soaked.

  • I love how simple the concept is, as in it's a very easy way like you said; to incorporate it into existing projects, the fact it's all done with material nodes is amazing, and your matED showed how much effort went into it tbh XD

Really tunes it down to it's basic roots though, so it's easily useable in kismet, I'll definitely be using it if you ever release it.

  • Thank you!!!

  • you should make it slippery when it rains on rocks or stones

  • That cobblestone floor is sexy

  • awesome stuffs. Love the freezing water after the snow dropping down.

  • Hah, would help for me to watch right to the end

  • Been reading through your dissertation and this is some really excellent work, stuff that I think the Epic guys themselves can learn from.

I know its probably a lot to ask, but it's somewhat confusing going through the paper without an overview of what the complete material network looks like. Is it possible to see what it looks like?

  • Awesome. Could you make a tutorial?

And by the way, in which university are you studying?

  • @XlorD59 Cheers :) Probably will make one eventually, but most of it can be found in my dissertation... I studied at Staffordshire university (in England), but graduated earlier this year

  • @SamJohnHayes thanks, I'll have a look at your dissertation then :)

  • @SamJohnHayes Where can we found your dissertation? Thank you

  • @SamJohnHayes Which course did you do? I have applied for Stafford to do games development :)

  • @XlorD59

check the udk scriptures channel. it has a tutorial!

  • Please make a tutorial, even if you decide to make it quick, where people have to work for it a little would be cool too. Maybe not all the tricks, but a direction or a place to go look and figure it all out? This is incredible work! I am excited to see what you have next.

  • @bigjake7769 Feel free to check out my dissertation on my website; it covers pretty much all of this stuff :)

  • @SamJohnHayes do you need to have Unreal tournament 3 for UDK>>???

  • Really great! Have you got a direction for moving forward? A project or a concept of the game?

  • REALLY nice, the freezing water effect is the extra touch that made me appreciate the level of accuracy you put into this work.

I was like "eheheh let's see how he handled the watered ground" and you did it brilliantly.

  • Are you going to make a tutorial about this?

  • nice work guy

  • really great! :)

  • Impressive.

What impact does it have on in-game performance?

  • @slowJusko Cheers. Not too much of an impact - I tested various versions and these was the most efficient techniques... eg I use static switches and swap between material instances so that only branches of the shaders that are required are calculated at any time.
