this was exactly what i was waiting for. dynamic for each element. now we need more fluid animations for characters. more interaction. not so stiff. uncharted 3 made the first steps of what i have in mind.
Wow. This is really cool. Excellent work. Do you know any good free tutorials where i could teach myself the basics of udk? I looked on youtube but the vids all lag or are not in hd. Thanks.
Using this is it possible to add a water effect on a character model? It makes me think of Uncharted 2 where the snow levels had the characters actually with some snow on them and the rain level had their clothes soaked.
I love how simple the concept is, as in it's a very easy way like you said; to incorporate it into existing projects, the fact it's all done with material nodes is amazing, and your matED showed how much effort went into it tbh XD
Really tunes it down to it's basic roots though, so it's easily useable in kismet, I'll definitely be using it if you ever release it.
Been reading through your dissertation and this is some really excellent work, stuff that I think the Epic guys themselves can learn from.
I know its probably a lot to ask, but it's somewhat confusing going through the paper without an overview of what the complete material network looks like. Is it possible to see what it looks like?
@XlorD59 Cheers :) Probably will make one eventually, but most of it can be found in my dissertation... I studied at Staffordshire university (in England), but graduated earlier this year
Please make a tutorial, even if you decide to make it quick, where people have to work for it a little would be cool too. Maybe not all the tricks, but a direction or a place to go look and figure it all out? This is incredible work! I am excited to see what you have next.
@slowJusko Cheers. Not too much of an impact - I tested various versions and these was the most efficient techniques... eg I use static switches and swap between material instances so that only branches of the shaders that are required are calculated at any time.
3:51 .... can we get a copy of that to look at lol. Holy shit that looks impressive.

Okay, you convinced me that the only thing the unreal engine can't do is dynamic odor.

Also, I think you win an award for that ground shader.

How well do you believe it would perform in large-scale use (i.e. an actual game)?
It's most impressive despite any potential faults brought up by my previous question, however!
