I've always admired Bing Crosby's style and splendid voice! This Clay guy I could never stomach. He has zero charisma in my opinion. Voice is Ok by cannot compare to the incredible singers of the past who sang with no effort at all.
@MsAussielass You clearly have not seen him actually perform. He is VERY charismatic and is a true performer, along with the fact that he has the voice of an angel.
@ClayTakeover You are absolutely right -- never seen him perform nor would I want to. Not my taste for talent but everyone has their taste right? You like him and I do not. Cheers!
I really dislike the use of video to create these so called "duets." Shame on Bing Crosby's estate for allowing it. His image doesn't need any cheesy "performances" like this one. And no, it ISN'T better than the Crosby/Bowie version.
"Creppy" - as in "someone who eats crepes"? Couldn't resist! Haven't seen this clip in years. Unusual, but very nice. There are similarities in both men's lower registers.

ok, no one might agree, but I think Clay is 10000000% better than Bowie. I ADORE Bing so now this duet is perfect for me! Rest in peace Bing and thank you for sooo many childhood memories!
Well, it looks easy because he is most likely lip-synching to what he recorded earlier. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but in order to appear in his tux and be digitally put into a video he couldn't have headphones & a microphone on.
The singing effort was put out in the studio and for the video he just had to look good.
I love Clay and Bing together; two astonishing voices. I also remember as a young teenager watching the original Bowie and Bing collaboration. I thought it was great, a nice mix of vocals with Bing and Bowie but the best thing about it was the chance to see Bowie in a wholesome, normal setting. It all seemed so natural, Bowie's and Bing's interaction. That is what was most enchanting about the Bowie and Bing duet, vocals by Bowie were quite nice but he was over powered by Bing's lovely bass.
WOW!!! Good job! facinating how the old & new can meet much like Bocefus did with his dad! great skill of video dubbing & clay's voice blended perfectly with the old crooner!fabulous!
That was lovely. Clay looks so sweet & innocent - lol! Btw, he isn't trained at all; he has one of the most purely natural voices out there. And for all Bowie's talents, & the wonderfulness of the original version of this, Clay is absolutely a better singer than Bowie. He's very laid back here & not pushing or overdoing anything at all. Bowie had the benefit of singing live with Bing & the interaction therein. Clay has to sing along with a recording. Big difference.
I remember seeing the original Crosby Bowie version when it first aired and being completely blown away -- I think it is stil one of the most remarkable versions ever recorded. What is remarkable about this one is the fact that in certain sections this is the best I have heard Clay Aiken sound since his early Idol days -- IAt the end of the day though it lacks the sincerity and purity of sound displayed in the Bowie/Crosby rendition.
Came here from a clip of the Bowie version - I admit I do find this kind of posthumous duet a strange and rather unsettling idea, but this is one of the better attempts I've seen. I've never heard Clay Aiken sing before but he has an excellent voice.
Personal preference: this cheapens the original version. I'm not bashing Clay, it's just that it's an emulation of one of the most cherished televised Christmas events. It's a bit sad.
I love this! It's different enough from the Bowie version to be it's own - Clay is so good at doing that. Clay has such an amazing voice. I'd like to see all three of them - Clay, Bowie and Bing - try it all together, each with their beautiful harmonies. *sigh* Beautiful.
I would love to see and hear Clay record this with David Bowie. It would be a strange twist of fate. My two favorite singers together would be so cool!
This is amazing! Clay can sing anything and with anyone! He did a beautiful job harmonizing with Bing!! That probably wasn't the easiest thing to do! And what an honor to be ask by Bings estate to do a duet with him. I didn't see this when it first was out! I love Clay and can't wait to see him live again!! I want our music man back!
I saw this when it first came out, I LOVED it then and LOVE IT NOW!
I personally love how I believe Clay stayed very gentle in his voice, NOT overpowering Bings. This was simply beautiful. I am sure Mr. Crosby himself would be deeply honored by the job Clay did.
I must say I really do not like clay Aiken alot but his voice is really good & this blend between the two are really good. Clay does a fantastic job of harmanising in this song.
I guess I just don't hear what some negative commenters here do. I don't hear Clay trying to outsing Bing Crosby nor ruining this in any way. It's a nice, simple duet.
Clay has ruined many Christmas standards for me--simply because he just sings them all so much better than the original artists. That man can sing anything and stand up to any singer--past or present. Hey, you bashers--you don't have to like Clay, but you know he has some powerful "pipes" so don't lie about it. And, duh, to those of you who claim Clay was trying to outsing Bing, do you really think Clay was there with him doing that--you silly people!
aww i think clay is soo adorable when he sings this song :) and the way he has a twinkle in his eye and bounces on his toes haha thanks for posting im in love with this vid

I was just watching the video of David Bowie and Bing Crosby do this and saw someone has responded that Clay Aiken perfomed this "with" Bing. I dont mean to totally bash Aiken here but this is terrible. Dont ruin a good thing and sing the part like it should be sung. His little "twist" on things made the song unbearable. I agree with wh1048.

This is a disgrace to Bing that this joke is singing next to him. He'd probably role over in his grave if he knew technology took advantage of him in this way. Bing is arguably the most influential pop musician of the 20th century and when he sings next to a runner-up of " American Karaoke" it belittles all he did.
Clay has got to be the best singer in a generation. He might have been a runner-up but comparing him to Ruben, I don't know how that happened. Many singers do covers and every cover he's done, he DID IT BETTER. Neil Sedaka even said that Neil's song Solitare will now forever be a Clay Aiken song.
Anyone who doesn't know that Bing Crosby was a baritone needs to learn more about music. Bing Crosby was the greatest and most popular entertainer of the 20th century.
Joy, exactly right. Also, Clay is a tenor -- I don't know what Bing is, but he's not a tenor! I think both their voices are great in this video, but I just love the golden purity of Clay's voice.
Resendiz....if you are implying that Clay's voice is a boy's voice, you need to understand what singing harmony in a duet means. Bing is singing the melody, which is often the lower, deeper part - and Clay is singing the harmony which is the higher part. He hits plenty of low notes in the section where he is singing by himself. Both Clay and Bing are in a league of their own!
I've always admired Bing Crosby's style and splendid voice! This Clay guy I could never stomach. He has zero charisma in my opinion. Voice is Ok by cannot compare to the incredible singers of the past who sang with no effort at all.
