I wish we had trout even half that size in NC! With all the gill netters we have we are lucky to get a keeper sized speck. 20in is considered a gator trout here. Nice fish!

The reason for the size decrease in trout resides in the fishery facing the impacts of temperature decrease during the winter. The NCDMF has statistics regarding mortality rates and waste via. speckle trout. I suggest you spectate the info. As for the temperature statistics, this is the reason the fishery has been shut down in NC for comm. and rec. fishermen.

I would have had a 2 lb. mullet mounted in front of his mouth to make it look like he was striking the mullet even though you caught him on a topwater.
