I need advice: Im at one of these "3-4 weeks CDl training" are these places really giving us the proper training to haul millions of dollars worth of merchandise? I am a good car driver and am confident behind the wheel but 3 weeks? are the job placement programs legit and are you really able to do regional driving straight out of schooling?

They teach you just enough to fill out a log book, maybe sort of read a map, and pass the skills test to get a CDL. Some of the job placement programs are legit, some aren't. If you aren't "pre-hired" by a company by the end of the first week, start calling OTR companies, because you've been had by your current job placement program. You will probably not luck out and get a regional job straight out of school. You will probably spend your 1st 4-8 weeks at your new job with an OTR trainer.

Your instructors will show you how to upshift and downshift, also when you're in 5th gear you flip the range selector (or T-Bar) up before going into 6th gear. DO NOT practice shifting in the yard; I already got a verbal warning for doing so alone. An instructor must be present. Any questions please message me...

After backing, I accidently moved that t-bar-went to go forward from stop. After staling three times, I drove back in 6th gear somehow. confusing at the time but fun. thanks

Its all about rpms. Too much gas or too little and it will not go in gear. You have to find the "sweet spot" with the throttle not the clutch. Use the clutch only to start or when you cant pull it out of gear when out of rpm range. Good luck. Any questions post again.

Its called "floatin'" the gears. You can do that in a car too but it's harder to time it right. With a truck it's easy I guess cause of the big gears involved. As you accelerate there is pressure from the engine gear on the tranny gear when u let off the accelerator there is a split second where there is no pressure on the gear and it pops right out. Likewise another split second later the engine gear will pop right into the next gear up/down.

I dont know where or how you learned how to drive, or if you even do.... Many old men who have been driving trucks for years and years use a double clutch for every gear. This is of course due to the very deep straight cut gears used in old trucks. Maybe people who clutch their shifts leared from a real pro?
