It was stupid speculation like that which cost an innocent man his career

  • That's Natalie Talmadge.

  • Considering how many "Comique girls" Arbuckle had on hand, it's pushing it to figure he'd have Virginia Rappe travel all the way to New York to sit in a car.

  • Roscoe is innocent!

  • If he is innocent why did Virginia rappe died,Fatty arbuckle was a cow

  • People die from things other than being forced upon by a large man. I'm very petite. My husband is at least as large as he and trust me, I ain't dead.

  • people also die if they get raped by a bottle in the case of virginia rappe there was evidence that she mightve been raped with a bottle which is sickening that big fatty was violent

  • And would not rape with a bottle sort of defeat the purpose of a rape?

  • @luvebug21 - firstly, that is not Rappe in the above film, it does not appear in any of the available lists of Rappe's credits, secondly, pull your ill informed head out of your backside and do some research

  • Come on there's no need for going all cookoo.

  • @AudryLovesFatties Exactly, Long live Roscoe!

  • Virginia Rappe never acted in this movie.

    Hugo

  • Gas for $1.00!

  • That is Virginia Rappe and Natalie Talmadge in the back seat of the car

  • No. Natalie is the person people mis-identify as Virginia Rappe. It would have be physically impossible for Virginia to have been in "His Wedding Night" as she was currently filming "Paradise Garden" 3,000 miles away.

  • It is most likely Natalie Talmadge, later wife of Buster Keaton. She would have been on the set, being Arbuckle's secretary and script girl, and it does look like Natalie from the side. Another possibility is Norma Talmadge is possibly doing a drive-through, but I doubt it.

The Rappe myth comes from an Italian website that existed a few years ago, but now gone. MissMerrivale effectively sinks this story for good. She knows more about Virginia Rappe than anyone alive today.

  • A) Visual ID; it isn't Virginia Rappe. B) His Wedding Night was made on the east coast at the same time Paradise Garden was filming on the west coast.

  • The end of the story is you can't exactly say if it's Virginia Rappe or not. I think she is it.

    A) Visual there isn't any clear view of the womens faces

    B) To shot this scene it doesn't take longer than maybe half an hour. So were is the problem to film a little bit at the east coast

and than take a bus or train to the west coast.

  • If there isn't a clear view of the woman's face, then how do you know it's her?

    But whatever. Good scholarship, fella.

  • personally, idk either way, but if it were true virginia was filming on the opposite coast, it wouldn't make much sense it's her. not in those days, there were thousands of available starlets. virginia wasn't that sought after. just sayin

  • @7syn, you are being absurd. It isn't Virginia. Give it up.

  • This is not Virginia Rappe.

  • Ok, and why not?

  • Wow, nice vid. Is this really from 1917? It's quite surprising to see women having bobbed hairdos by then.

Who would think that the two co-stars of the film would be entangled in a mess that would end tragically for both of them.

  • Thier hair isn't really bobbed, it's just put up in a loose bun.

Besides, Irene Castle boobed her hair before this.

  • Nobody killed her (unless a doctor did through malpractice). She died of peritonitis, and a grifter named Maude Delmont trumped up a false accusation in a blackmail attempt. The charges against Arbuckle were completely discredited.

"That Roscoe Arbuckle had anything to do with the death of Virginia Rappe is something that no reasonable person, when shown the facts of the matter, believes today." -film historian David B. Pearson-

  • interesting that so many years later, people still don't know that arbuckle never really did it.

  • @MabelNormand Actually if u study closely the facts u will find it was a lie for money, he was used by Rappe and her friend. Her death was caused by a ruptured bladder due to the amount of abortions she had and why do u think her organ were destroyed? Coverup... think about it
