Lets just say all of his camouflage would have done him dick if he were sniping from shelled out houses and piles of rubble that was Stalingrad. It's a completely different ball game from camping out in a forest you've known your whole life stalking small convoys that have no idea about what's going on. Russian partisans played that game behind enemy lines during WWII very effectively well.

Soviet was focusing on invading and conquering finland (which wasn´t a tactical advantage) but the finns killed masses of russian troops but the russians just sent more into death. and stalin killed his own offficers because he suspected them of being traitors. maybe you would also suspect your own officers, and then almost kill them all.

Be it Häyhä, Surkov or any other legendary sniper/sharpshooter, they were unrivaled on their territory. There is no way to compare their skills with eachother since the environments were too much different. Mid european area is considerably warmer than Finland and nature offers different type of cover.

Have at least a bit of respect and stop speculating who is better and such.. they didnt do it to just be the best, they did it because they had to.

@tupakki By your logic, the Chinese Civil War (1928-1991), Soviet-Japanese Border War (1938-1941, when they signed a Neutrality Pact), the Franco-Thai War (Oct., 1940- May, 1941) and the Ili Rebellion (1944-1949) where all also a part of WWII. They weren't. They were contemporary conflicts. Finland WAS in World War II, however- They were a member of the Axis Nations, AFTER the end of the Winter War, where they ceded land to the Soviet Union as part of the Peace Treaty.

@DarkTau You are not describing my logic by telling those examples. Let me explain my logic. Nazi-Germany and Soviet Union signed a Molotov-Ribbentrop pact when they shared part of Europe together. WW2 started when Nazi-Germany attacked to Poland and demanded it areas. France and England declared to war to Germany. USSR attacked two weeks later and England and France did not declare war because they needed an ally against Hitler. Stalin used the right of M-R pact by demanding land from Finland.

@DarkTau Finland couldn't give land which would have collabsed the defence of the country. Not as important land Finland would have given to USSR but the land was not the goal of Stalin. He wanted whole country. Winter War started. During that war, Finland would have got help from Italy but Germany blocked this help from Finland. USSR and Germany were working together against Finland as these actions showed. If Winter War was not a part of WW2, nothing were.

Without a doubt, had Simo not been wounded, and the war had continued, he would have had well over 700 confirmed kills. The top scoring Soviet ace that is accepted is Ivan Mihailovich Sidorenko of the 1122nd rifle regiment with 500 confirmed 'kills'. Soviet Propaganda is notorious for inflating numbers.
