Question to my Russian friends. How much do the Tor / tunguska / pantsir systems differ? all 3 seems to be about short / medium range rockets , So i dont know if some are simply better, or if they have a different purpose. thanks.

The Tor and the Patriot are two different kinds of air defense systems. Tor is tactical short range ~12km, Patriot is medium range 70+ for PAC-2. They don't compare to each other. Also, Patriot kills TBMs. The Tor does not do this. The S300 reportedly does, and I am sure it is a very capable system, but this arrived years after the Patriot. If anything, the copying went the other way, as this is a normal thing to do.
Russian anti air systems are terrible , toooo many of them,every forest or swamp is full of rockets i doubt America will be able touch a soviet borders with any plane .
NATO wouldn't just send in their jets to get mullered mate lol. First...special forces like SAS would raid the missile locations, call in cruise missile attacks/satelite guided munitions with 1 cm accuracy etc. Once most of the threat had been removed...then goes in the airpower. NATO is a bit stronger than you think my friend :)

Also more than likely were there are ZSU-23s they will have air cover of their own MIG 29s, SU 25s and SU 27s not every war turns out to be like the first and second war in Iraq.
For it's time the Shilka was a good vehicle I guess. Now it's just a piece of history. It's not good any more. Modern weapons have a higher caliber and a much faster rate of fire (w/o overheating) than the Shilka's guns. Even just ONE of the Shilka's gun. Oh well.

I think that next grade of AA defence is not in direct hit of target but a dispersion of some kind of high heat flammable gas. It could be done by many small missiles launched and programmed to make a big square(or even sphere) gas-shield in front of going target be it missile or aircraft. Gas detonates when target contacts with it. I think nano-technologies could make some kind of it. Probably it could protect air then on any distance short or long.

I think that next grade of AA defence is not in direct hit of target but a dispersion of some kind of high heat flammable gas. It could be done by many small missiles launched and programmed to make a big square(or even sphere) gas-shield in front of going target be it missile or aircraft. Gas detonates when target contacts with it. I think nano-technologies could make some kind of it. Probably it could protect air then on any distance short or long.
So... it's just a fantasy =)

Special equipment, based on land, could change the air properties like density just in few seconds and any objects, planes, rockets, ballistic missiles just burned because of friction with such air. I dunno, what happened with this project, probably, it was classified and is still in development.

There are jets that fly so high, and so fast I doubt it can stop attacks from a nation that has ample amount of jets. Besides, how many missiles can those things hold? Then what about reloading? My point is that the reason the US has not had an ABM system for 30 odd years was entirely political and strategic; not due to any technological inability. I assume that the former Soviet Union chose to build only one ABM site for similar reasons.

i have seen on you tube about us losses in vietnam n all expertx agree that what the Russians said years ago is turned out to be very accurate us loses over 2500 fighter planes n 1000 choppers on SOME sorties over N Vietnam atone time they were lossing well over half their planes sometimes up to 80% yes they they modified their aircraft defenceses n the SAMs became ineffective till the Russians upgraded their missiles n had a much better kill ration but they never acchived that ratio again

But as far as the absolute sucrifice goes it was the Soviet Union that paid the most horrible price-27 million dead, half of country destroyed, tortured, and burned down by the Nazis. You are correct, the winter was a crucial part to to Germany's defeat. Then why don't you blame Germany for that idiotic blunder of attacking the USSR? Actually the only reason the Germany attacked then, was because they knew that the USSR had the same plans. So they just caught them unprepared.
Also, most of the casualties inflicted by the Germans were because of the idiotic strategy of General Zhukow. Have you ever seen Enemy at the Gates?

When frost came (November), the situation actually *improved* for Germany because the roads became useable again - until Shukov's counter-offensive, using *Siberian* divisions (which wouldn't have been free if Japan had opened a second front).
