  • jede, jeder hat eben seine ganz eigene und einzigartige Art... :-)

  • Beautiful! Studying this piece right now. I would like to see more contrast in marked dynamics. My only criticism.

  • I really like most of the studios Valentina records in, they are usually very good. The close up sound of this one allowed you to hear the true tones of the piano.

  • I like Valentina's different hairstyle that day! :) LOL

  • From now on, I'm pasting every comment in a foreign language directly into Google Translate.

  • The Lisitsa's version is very beautiful, but i think the Impromptu 3 op.142 belongs Schubert and Horowitz.

  • love the crystalline sound of this...

  • This is absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this with us :)

  • Pure Perfection. My all time favorite along with the Wilhem Kempff version. Please go to Chile someday

  • Absolute genius.I am in awe. Please come to Wales

  • I know im not the only one, bud Valentina, you are my IDOL!!! Love You so much!!

    Please come to Europe!!

  • This was on HOUSE M.D.

She is definitley blessed by our Lord.

  • it is longtime i am falling in love with that superb amazing pianist....cela fait deja un bon moment que je suis tombe en amour avec cette merveilleuse pianiste,je la voit presque dans ma soupe...sans blague je suis moi meme pianiste depuis 40 ans et je suis un critique dur et sans passe droit ni pitie, mais Valentina me fait des papillons dans le ventre!!!! jeu brillant, intelligent, puissant, expressif, precis, respectueux de l'auteur,et en plus elle ressemble a un ange!!! BRAVO!!!

  • Nice. :D

  • I think she is playing with the meter and tempo too much. You must let Schubert flow, naturally, as if a child were playing.

  • @lourak I totally agree, after all most Schubert sounds like a child wrote it.

  • @TheScriabin Thanks for responding! - but let me see if I understand your comment...Are you speaking badly of Schubert? Or are you criticizing the performance?

  • Lovely music and lovely interpretation. Thanks a lot for so nice present!

  • Quelle grâce quand même. On dirait une ballerine... Bravo !

  • how can 42 people disliked this??

  • Such passion, such sorrow, such beauty...

  • @fabianoasc - Thank you so much, my good friend, for this "musical pearl"

  • eghh im playing this piece and it sounds really hard...

  • aff i was going to study but i end up listening to this beautiful music.. :D it sure was beautiful but its not gonna help me pass my class

  • just lovely.....

  • Wonderful. i agree with every note. wooooww

  • Dang!! Her fingers are rly long o.O

  • well done.....maybe a bit more power left...and a bit more crazy right...for u no problem..u solved the the big points great !!!!!! wonderful music

  • Valentina you must put some more of your favorite schubert comps on here please

  • schubert is the best composer to ever live

  • Schubert is my favorite composer..I learned to sing his Ave Maria, and I fell in love with it.

  • Billy Elliot :') <3

  • @louiselovesmagic it took me 2 years after watching the movie to finally find this song XD

  • @dodgie6969 : Me too! xD Except 3 years for me aha :P

  • @louiselovesmagic Was it in billy elliot? what bit?

  • @columnsx : When Billy and his father arrive at the auditions, the music is playing in the background :-)

  • @louiselovesmagic Ok thanks.

  • Wonderful.

  • @miguelmuelle No, Schubert never married. He was attracted to Caroline Esterhazy, but her parents blocked his overtures to her, probably because of his social class but they may have been aware he had syphilis.

  • @PhysicalsimForever Thanks, but I believe you meant to reply to @aetechlic. I don't know to whom he or she is referring, but it was not Schumann either, who died before his Clara.

  • I know that some one in this venue can assist me. Can anyone tell me what is the name of the absolutely stunning composition that Schubert wrote as a tribute to his recently deceased wife? I heard it played many, many years ago and felt as though i could sense and comprehend Schubert's incredible love for his dearly departed wife. Thank you!

  • @aetechllc Was he married?

  • Schubert would love this performance!

  • Great Lisitsa, great Schubert!! Magníficos en su expresividad.

  • Great Lisitsa, great Schubert!!

  • e semplicememente bravissima zeno

  • Shame her cd's are scarce and hard to come by, where are the major record labels waiting for? Such a bloody shame

  • @quinto34 its classical thats why

  • @Vesivian

so is bloody LangLang, that never stopped them :)

  • The ease of Valentina's playing reminds me of Horowitz and Rubenstein. To just caress and ease the sound out with no apparent effort. Wonderful.

  • ascoltando questo pezzo, mi da tutta l'impressione che non ci sia lei al pianoforte, ma schubert in persona.

grazie valentina mi hai fatto appassionare di schiubert

    MERAVIGLIOSO

  • woah hows the finger sliding on they keys. If I tried that on my rusty old piano I'd grind my fingertips off

  • I'm a pianist too and I must say your soul mesmerize me completely... Each sound has such attention paid to it, it's remarkable.

  • I'm playing this for term exam, its really a beautiful piece and the way she plays it looks so fluidy if I can say so :) really brings out the melody well

  • esta mujer toca hermoso!

    le hace cariñitos al piano*O*

  • I must admit that i liked more Dina Yoffe's interpretation.

  • Valentina you Are Amazinggg!!! =)

  • Stesus. You are absolutely onto it as far as this lady goes. I have seen some pianists in my 70 years on this earth but not one to hold a candle to this one. A heavenly creature with an amazing brain when it comes to the piano.

  • 37 dislikes means 37 conections to the internet that should be terminated...

  • @pedrolindoguerreiro ? Could you either elaborate or withdraw (current preference)?

  • Great! Wonderful! I like it very much, it is played with a lot of feeling and this piano sounds excellent! Thank you very much for this performance!

  • Impressive played spirited compositions as well as emotional ( Schubert )!

    Soo nice, Valentina!!!!!

    Congratulate!

    DS

  • I like it Valentina!!

  • Yes, I concur. Thanks so much for sharing your gift of music with us Valentina.

  • Very beautiful

  • wowwww perfect!!

  • @ianthe22 : Thanks for the clue. Breathing correctly is something I was never taught. It had not even crossed my mind. What might have happened is that as a middle distance runner ages ago I had assumed incorrectly that I knew how to breathe correctly for all time. I'll try to make the necessary corrections. Meanwhile, thanks kindly for speaking up.

  • I love the more serious b-part. beautiful octave melody. From gorgeous to passionate, then afterwards harvest the fruits of labour. Schuberts colour pallette is always impressive:D.

  • I love the more serious b-part. beautiful octave melody.

  • @feemedfee Impromptu OK?!

  • Sublime!!

  • that's true talent, passion, and skill. amazing...........

  • As far as I know the limp wrist serves to keep the forearm muscles relaxed and the blood flowing during rapid passages. Slower passages do not always require a relaxed wrist, but staying loose seems to be a " set it and forget it " thing so the performer can concentrate on other problems under pressure. For example, I had to abandon the Fantasie Impromptu years ago because my left hand would lock up. Now I'm working it up with a relaxed wrist.

  • @ungava100 Tbh, i think some of things you mention are more associated with breathing. Never forget to breath properly, but do it naturally or one will lose focus.

  • Very well played, but what's with the limp wrist??

  • @idealhomesrealestate Did she not play the piece absolutely gorgeously?

  • VALENTINA PLAYED THE SONGS HAVE ANY BRIGHT MOON-LIKE SOUND.

  • It seems I heard playing Schubert!!. Thanks , Valentina

  • i enjoyed it very much (nice) 0_0

  • God, I'm in love with those hands. Seriously.

  • @ramonfw wash your hands with "Dawn" dishwashing soap and you''ll have hand like hers to some day.

  • I'll confess that your technique looked weird to me at first... I was pretty sure that was not how I had been taught to play the piano: by a pretty fantastic teacher, might I add. However, my ears told me something completely different. Your performane was breath-taking, one of the best I've heard, if not the best! I have nothing but congratulations to give you!

  • A mesmerizing performance. Very eloquent. Schubert could not have done any better.

  • Wunderbar federleicht und faszinierend schön

  • Lovely interpretation, thank you for sharing

  • This was updated on my birthday. thank you for the birthday gift Valentina. I will cherish it forever.

  • I ENJOY IT VERY MUCH!! BEAUTIFUL!!

  • Ooh, I love this piece, and beautifully played, of course! :)

  • Incredible how Schubert announces Chopin in such a clear manner! :D Wonderful interpretation!

  • Just amazing. I could listen to this all day. At times it looks like you are stroking the piano. A lovely interpretation of this piece. Thank you for sharing it with me.

  • Marvellous. No one plays like Valentina, giving so much expression to each note. Genius. Valentina, I listen to you playing Schubert every day. You have been giving me many hours of sublime musical pleasure. Thank you!

  • @musicfanBRA yo I hope you seen Krystian Zimerman the best pianist in the world perform schubert.. no joke i have not seen better, i dont think its possible, right now my top three in order 3.Valentina Lisitsa 2. Yuja Wang 1. KZ of course the man has the best touch and sound, very inspirrational

  • @Tubztele- Many thanks for the tips. I loved Yuja Wang playing Gretchen am Spinnrade. But could not find videos of K.Zimmerman playing Schubert, only audios. Except now I've become addicted to watching Valentina's beautiful hands... Her videos are so well made- the cameras, editing, the lighting, everything is artistically done, so watching them is much more pleasurable than just listening.

  • Schubert truly became as great as his idol Beethoven. Fantastic playing

  • @Toxxic88 Schubert will never be half the man Beethoven was.

  • @brandonscherrer

    says the little kid... gtfo

  • @Toxxic88 - I agree with you, Schubert became as great as his idol... Yet, since Schubert is my favorite composer, for me Schubert surpassed Beethoven in many ways.... On the other hand, this is a personal call.

    Cheers

  • Beautiful!! *****

  • Thank you for posting this! Beautiful, intelligent interpretation. I am inspired to practice more! Thank God for the gift of music.

  • valentina, you are my idol.. you've inspired me to learn piano as good as you are... i've just started taking piano lessons for about a year and there are times when i felt so frustrated because i'm already 22 and i'm only at beginner's level... how i wish i have a 24 hour piano teacher at home...

  • a very beautiful, talented, russian women

  • Valentina you play like an angel !

Schubert is my favorite composer. You bring out all the passion of his music.

  • Thanks, Merci

  • très belle interprétation, je regrette juste que les barres de reprises notées par Schubert ne soient pas toutes respectées. Elles apportent une symétrie qui était voulue par le compositeur.

  • Wow...

  • Gosh....... I never bored to replay this.... I wish I could have such a nice awesome skill like her......

  • nice..............

  • She has made me fall in love with Schubert all over again. What a beautiful version of this piece.A heaven-touched touched creature and thank goodness all of us earthbound players get to listen to her heavenly touch.I am mesmerized;its been a very long time since all I want to hear is classical music...her.I just cannot get enough of listening to this woman play.

  • Hermoso...

  • Unfair for you to have been born with hands like that. :-)) while we have to struggle to reach an octave!

  • meraviglioso/a

  • Oh boy. How magnificent. Just magnificent. The best.

  • whoever says this is not natural doesn't know what they are talking about. your hand movement on the piano is the most relaxed and natural that i've ever seen. it looks effortless and of course gorgeous. it was amazing; simple as that. i loved listening to you. keep playing ♥

  • Valentina i love you! <3 ;)

  • Val, this has to be my all time favorite rendition of this masterpiece. Thank you so much for uploading this.

  • i hardly recognize you... why couldn't you have played the chopin etudes with that feelings, they're horrible ^^ this is awesome!

  • amazing performane,,sensitive ,passionate,,touhes the heart and the soul,,

  • It is a real Bösendorfer and absolut perfect interpretation. Thanks.

  • To my mind this interpretation is too unsettled! It's not Chopin or Rachmaninoff, it's Schubert. I love his silence of music. But still very good! Greetz from Germany

  • mhhm Du bist eindeutig ein virtuose

  • her finger is dancing on piano.

  • Awesome playing of great music. TY VL

  • What a beautiful interpretation of this impromptu.... amazing to listen to and to watch. When I went to the website I was unable to find this music on any of the CD's listed... any way to purchase this recording?

  • hello there :) do you ever, by any chance, concert in france? it would be great to get a chance to see you play live... oh well, anyway, thanks for all the videos you uploaded. you make youtube a better place ;)

  • Hallo E.

Auch hier lass ich dir einen Gruß da und hoffe, dass es dir gefällt :)

    M.

  • VALENTINA, HEY! When are u coming to México? Didier.

  • Valentina has removed particular repeats in this impromptu. She has left some of them in, while skipping over others.

  • Valentina, are you planning to come to Toronto soon?

  • will you play this piece as an encore when you come to Toronto. I'm playing this piece now and I would love to hear you play live!!!!!!!!!

  • We want schubert sonata's and mendelssohn's Albumblatt :). You'r the best!

  • I am so excited to see you in concert in Toronto, Canada with Hilary Hahn!!!

  • So beautiful to listen to!

  • Valentina's interpretation of this piece is rich with emotion yet sacrifices nothing to precision. This performance is sublimely beautiful.

  • man, my dad used to make me practice this for a long time... brings back fond memories... NOT! I'm glad there are great pianists like you that allow me to enjoy the music without having to play it myself =) thanks for sharing.

  • Perfect as it can be!

  • I love this impromptu, and hearing it played so well. I think it represents the apex of Schubert's achievement in keyboard works, why I can't really say. It seems so comprehensive in its inclusion of the many vocal styles that are found in his works, but so unified and structurally sound. It is almost the perfect composition to my unsophisticated ears. The other impromptus all have their various tonal qualities and technical quirks, but this seems to have it all. And a beautiful theme foremost.

  • VL Im your fan...GOOD VIBRATIONS.....FROM MEXICO

  • VL Im your FAN.......jejejeje Good Vibrations......From MEXICO..

  • Woah, that piano has two extra keys at the very bottom. That's pretty epic.

  • I've never seen any pianist who's fingers danced quite like yours. They're almost as enchanting to watch as the music is to listen to.

  • How absolutely enchanting! Facial expressions? I don't care about that. I'm listening to the music. I've worked with, and have heard many world class artists all over the world and this lady cuts right to the soul with her artistry. I am hoping she has produced some CDs so the hundreds of students here can take advantage of hearing her perform apart from YouTube. If not, she needs to do so. And yes, the piano sounds great. Brava Ms. Lisitsa!

  • j'aime bien votre coiffure sur cette vidéo et surtout votre musicalité bien sûr qui n'est pas donner à tout le monde . BRAVO

  • Comment removed

  • wow how a wonderful pianist you are! I love your playing because you're able to be so gracious and so technical at the same time. Although my favourite piece of yours is the campanella, by Paganini (and retaken by Liszt), it's always a pleasure for me to hear your piano pieces. Playing piano since a while myself, I know how talented you are and I wish I can play piano like you one day!

  • i love the bösendorfer sound

  • Soberbiamente, Magistralmente interpretado!!!!.Sensibilidad extrema, delicadeza contenida, manos envolventes. Mi tema favorito. Gracias Valentina por este REGALAZOOOO.Admiradora incondicional.

  • i have listened to these Improptus many times performed by Rubinstein, Horowitz, Dinu Lipati, Brendel, Kempf... and I cherish them all, but Valentina has totally stolen my heart! She is a sublime pianist, plus the recordings have wonderful sound and camera work. Schubert must be delighted in Heaven.

  • @musicfanBRA

Hmmm..... Her tone seems like Horowitz and it´s great, bud she seems to have small problems with her left hand!

  • affligeante version....

  • Whatever you play.. here Scubert would feel happy

  • Somewhere I have seen this piano called (by Valentina) the Argerich Horowitz Bosendorfer Imperial. Was this piano played over some period of time by those two performers? There is also a posted performance of this Schubert work by an older Horowitz on the Internet. I like Valentina's performance much more (not that my opinion should be much valued).

  • Продолжай играть так же прекрасно, а я и многие другие продолжим тебя слушать.

  • FANTASTIC!

  • Her hands are mesmerising...like an angel playing the piano. Bravo!

  • beautiful music and incredibly good playing! just look at how relaxed her hands are, amazing.

  • @otherjoe1234

Relaxed is the right word...Her hands are amazing, i could never play like that.

    She floates over the piano

  • This is a woman who was truly born to play the piano. She is one with it! I could listen to her play for eternity.

  • Such a shame schubert had to die so blasted young ! I wonder whan magic would have come from his mature works :( I don't have the imagination

  • Clear, transparent, almost digital age technique and style.

You wonder what future players will ever be able to squeeze out of a simple score.

    Ventura

  • It's a kind of magic to see you feeling the notes through yourself....ahhh wonderfull!

  • Schubert makes small adaptations in his best-known Rosamunde melody both here in this B flat Impromptu and when he uses it in the slow movement of his thirteenth string quartet in A minor. It is an amazing melody well played here.

  • bravo!!!!

  • Thanks for this sweet and fresh Schubert moment! May we have the huge pleasure and honor to see and ear you in France?

  • This is without competition my favourite classical piece, and I have to say that this was one of the best versions I have ever heard. Thank you!

  • Valentina:

I wonder if you ever played Mozart sonata in C K545.

I am not sure about this. I decided the above video is my most preferred "relax" one both in my work and personal life. Thank you!

  • Down in the comments I note that you state that the piano is an Imperial Bosendofer 1961. Is that the model with extra keys? I do like the sound (whatever it is). Do you often get to play this model in live performance?

  • Yes.

    V

  • @ValentinaLisitsa

Beautifully played, no one else plays in your sphere... wow!!!!!

    Congratulation ;))))))))

    schakowski@me.com

  • @ValentinaLisitsa

Lovely when a pianist plays from the soul without any ego. It is divine music then.

  • @mercantilist0 The Imperial has 97 keys; the extra keys are in the lower register and primarily add some volume, body, and depth to the music, through the resonation of their strings when the piano is being played.

The Bosendorfer was well liked by Franz Liszt. One of its champions in the 20th century was Wilhelm Bakhaus, although Josef Hoffmann helped design Bosendorfer models early in the that century.

This is beautifully played here. There us much feeling and care in her performance.

  • oh god I just LOVE the 3:58-4:51 part. It's so dramatic and moving ;_;

  • 6:10 - 7:11 is the best

  • amazing!

  • I like this than the Horowitz performance. The old giants deserve respect . But some times they are out performed.

  • amazing it's so beautiful but maybe a little too fast? A little slower would have been better?
