@Terje1337 You're the one who accused me of having too much sympathy for animals and claim I should only respect human beings. But there is NOT a clear psychological line between sadism against other animals and sadism against humans. Serial killers usually start off on pets.
The crowd was engaged in sociopathic/sadist behavior and their victim rebelled. And no one was seriously hurt. You are likely the only person on earth who wouldn't cheer this. Even the crowd likely did after getting clear.

People may try to rationalize bullfighting by saying that it's ingrained in the Spanish culture, and is therefore acceptable. However when looking at it rationally, it is causing unnecessary pain and suffering to a sentient being (the bull) solely for the sake of entertainment. On this basis, I judge bullfighting to be immoral.
And don't start with the whole "judge not..." spiel. Being an atheist, I have no higher power to judge morality for me, and I don't need one because I can do it myself.

@concernedagain, yes, bullfighting seems to have begun as part of a religious celebration in Mesopotamia. It was later imported to ancient Rome through a separate religion, the Cult of Mithras. In this popular men's cult, baptism with bull's blood was the rite of initiation. The bull was killed using a sword in a fight with a man, similar to today's bullfights. I assume the custom spread to the Iberian peninsula (Spain) during its days as part of the Roman empire.

Interesting that this wasn't the type of bullfighting that involves killing the bull, yet the region still banned bullfighting. I mean, the spectators should have known that there's always a tiny risk that something like this could happen.
As for ethical concerns, I suppose it can still be cruel to enrage a bull and dodge it as it runs around.
