lesleyblood, i saw them in melb[st kilda] at the same time, think snakefinger played guitar with em on that tour, i thought they were fukn great, but i was probably pretty smashed.
Lonesome Jack (the black faced character with the giant hat) is played by a guy known as Schwump. He was a percussionist from Portland, and worked with the Residents for awhile, but he was hard to work with. Graeme Whifler (who did ALL the Ralph videos) did the lighting for this.
Schwump is NOT in this video, I was there. I introduced Barry to the Residents several years later. (we both worked at KBOO radio where the Rez got their first exposure.) Check out the 'willyrein' channel.
This is Forbidden Zone Meets Eraserhead. This would have been the UItimate Midnight Movie. Still Could BE!

Lovely job, timeless & amusing, in an eerie way. Always the way with the Residents, timeless as they are.

Schwump denies being hard to work with, it was quite the contrary! He lives in Sierra Madre, Ca and has a YT channel...check out 'pickleparade'.

What are you all talking about??? What does Eraserhead have to do with any of this???
gardnjw 4 years ago
A funny thing is, this was year's before Eraserhead, which I believe started being shot in '74. Vileness Fats was in 1972.
theledzeppguy 4 years ago
Yes, that is hilarious.
raouldukeofprunes 3 years ago
What does everyone think? Will the world ever see "Vileness Fats" on DVD? I assume this is from the edited VHS tape that was released.
FuzzyCabesas 4 years ago
A 17 minute version was released on The Residents dvd "Icky Flix", which is a rather easy to find DVD.
theledzeppguy 4 years ago
True, but didn't the Residents film several HOURS of "Vileness Fats"? Where is that footage?
FuzzyCabesas 4 years ago
14 entire hours of material was shot, but just like the earliest Residents recordings, the Residents consider that stuff "Strictly Personal".
theledzeppguy 4 years ago
why in quotes? beefheart fan? They are nothing a like, but so much the same

am i wrong or were the residents taking off from eraserhead their whole career?

This actually came out before Eraserhead, I was surprised to find out, too. Eraserhead came out in 1977, Vileness Fats came out in 1971.

It acctually never cam out.
but clips and such have survived, it was never finished.
